View Full Version : Not My RX-8 (not dialup friendly)
Good Duck 07-15-2003, 09:58 AM Wow! The RX-8 looks awesome! Rotary...hmm.... :D
My dealer called yesterday. Two RX-8s just got unloaded; silver and titanium. Both were pre-ordered and neither one is mine. Despite having placed the pre-order back in Jan.10, my red sport is on the second shipment. I was thoroughly pissed. But that was quickly replaced by a stupid grin on my face once I saw the RX-8s. I was ecstatic to finally see and touch one in person.
When I got to the dealership around 6pm, they were detailing the silver one. The titanium stills got all its wrappers. The car is a little smaller than I had thought, which is good since I love small car. From the inside, visibility is good up front. The hood falls away from view, leaving only the two wheel arches to mark the corners. Perfect! The back view is high because slightly kick up tail end. Its beltline are about mid shoulder. So thankfully, it doesn't have that sitting-in-the-bathtub of the 350Z.
The driver power seat in the GT package allows for fine adjustments. So finding a comfortable driving position was no problem. I hope my cloth version can be just as accommodating. The back seat was not as claustrophobic as I had imagined, but it's certainly is cozy. Getting in and out of it is much easier than to my Civic coupe.
I spent the rest of the time walking around both cars and just admiring their gorgeous lines. I don't think their owners will mind. ;) From pictures, the titanium looks really good. But in person, the silver looks even better. The contrast between its bright appearance and black lines is really something. Almost make me think twice about my red. Maybe because it was late (6pm), but the silver really stood out against the titanium. This was a surprise to me.
Anyway, another surprise came when I learned that the owner of the silver was a fellow forum member: adamp316. I actually had converse with him online before, so it was a pleasant treat to finally meet him. I didn't have chance to take a pic of Adam next to his new baby as he was busy with paperworks. So I ask one the salesman to take one of me next to it. It's mine! :D
So now, I am that much more endear with the RX-8 styling and it just makes the wait that much more torturing.

Puppy1 07-15-2003, 10:07 AM I was real glad to see that your dealer wrote on the windsheild "Do Not Drive - Sold" on the titanium. I hope my dealer does the same.
Titanium is far better IMHO.But I even think RED is the best, but not for me.
RotorGeek 07-15-2003, 12:28 PM WOW the silver looks better in that last pic then any other I have seen in the past.
Lensman 07-15-2003, 12:38 PM Good images but what's with that ride height?! I'm getting a bit worried that the car is too high on the dampers.
Well, not to make your wait any more painful than it already is, but if you ordered red, you will be VERY happy with it, trust me. There were 3 RX-8s at NAIAS - titanium, black, and red. The red was by far the prettiest and most jaw-dropping color of the three. It just fit the shape of the car best IMO.

cant wait to pick mine up at 2pm today!!!!!!!!!
Good Duck 07-15-2003, 01:48 PM I'm not too concern about the ride height at the moment. The 2" clearance looks pretty even throughout. I'll admit though, a 3/4" drop would be perfect.
RX-8 Zoomster 07-15-2003, 10:45 PM You know the more I look at all these "live" pictures (not studio), it occured to me, that THIS car looks good in ALL colors. I NEVER seen a car that this was the case. Anybody agree?
Maximus 07-16-2003, 01:41 AM I have always felt that the SILVER is the MOST negleted color on RX8
but I believe its gorgeous. The color is stunning in a classic way and
also matches the stock wheels color so well. Way to go!

yes I agree silver is a classy color and a VERY popular color. I think the silver mazdaspeed rx8 sold me on this car. However I do like vibrant colors and what better than red?
c170673 07-17-2003, 05:35 AM It took me an absolute age to decide on the colour of my pre-order as all of the colours look so good.
I decided on Black as it was understated and chic.
(Although red does look very good indeed)

I had the same experience yesterday. Felicia showed me the blue and yellow. People were test driving the red car. I still have six weeks to go, but I mangaged to get 3.9% finance during the waiting process. The car looks much better in person. The blue looks fantastic, but yellow is too "lemon" for me. I added the Exhaust finishers to my car. Felicia told me that the cars are now selling for 3K to 4K over MSRP. Good thing I pre-ordered.
Good Duck 07-17-2003, 09:56 AM Silver is currently the most popular color.

pelucidor 07-20-2003, 02:03 AM I saw silver for the first time today at my dealership. It is stunning. It was parked to the side of a row of 15+ Mazda6s at the back of the dealership. I watched about 5 groups of customers come out of the door to look at a 6 and just stare goggle-eyed at this car. I haven't seen a red RX-8 since the Rev-It-Up event 3 months ago - I have forgotten what it looks like in the metal, vaguely remember it was good...
DaveRX4 07-21-2003, 02:57 PM Nice pics! It looks like you have a great digital camera. I recently picked up a Nikon Coolpix 3100 - small, but takes nice pictures. I was dissapointed that I couldn't sit in an 8 at the SD International Auto Show this past Spring, but since my brother-in-law works at a Mazda dealership and I'm going to visit that end of the country soon, I MAY get a test-drive.
...keeping my fingers crossed.......
grogiefrog 07-22-2003, 08:40 PM My first RX-7 was silver, and it was a pretty car. Certainly my favorite.
Does anyone have pictures of a green one yet?

Why does everyone pad their post counts by posting "free post" and such? Don't get me wrong, I don't really care, it's just bizarre. Why not post "free post" in every thread? What's so special about this one?
RedSheDevil 02-11-2006, 11:32 PM i was setpup to post here cu zive been drinking ... rhawb!!!!

Its nearly a 3 year old thread brought back by a drunk person. Deal with it. Why did you bother "padding" your count by replying to mine? hmm? huh? :wiggle:

Haha, I didn't even notice that the person who brought it back was none other than our very own forum lush.

Seems as though you're on to my game. By the way, +1 with this post. Hooray!
alcimedes 02-12-2006, 08:16 AM I find the idea of padding post counts appalling and will have nothing to do with it.

Don't ever drink and chat with RX-8 forum folks. They (RHAWB) send you links to threads that you have no intention of reading, then you post. I do believe my post said "I was setup to post here cuz I've been drinking" :D: Please feel free to resume your discussion and pardon my intrusion. I have to go post this apology in many threads I guess .... I'm such a loser ;)
Oh, and glad I could help out the postwhores to up their post counts!!! :nono: :spank: :mdrmed:
