View Full Version : RX-8 made a cameo in a new futuristic film

Since everyone told me Fantastic Four stunk, I decided not to see it and instead went to the sneak preview of The Island.

Not sure if you guys have heard about this movie in any of the upcoming attraction previews yet (it won't be in theaters for another 2 weeks), but it's set in the not too distant future...from the same director of Armageddon, Bad Boys, and The Rock. It's based on the same concept as Ayn Rand's book Anthem where everyone is living in some type of emotionless utopia society...only here they're shielded from contamination of some type of virus/radiation...and of course you have one guy who starts questioning all the shit going on around him and...I'll spare you the details.

Anyway the movie ended up being a damn good film, and to top it off, a Sunlight Silver* RX-8 with front air dam and rotary accent had a couple seconds of exclusive footage as it was shown driving straight towards the camera for no apparent reason. That was quite a surprise for me.

This is the first movie I've seen since X-Men 2 that had an RX-8 in it.

So now you guys have a reason to see The Island, even though I'm sure most of you would have checked it out anyway.

*EDIT: Looks like it may have actually been a Titanium Gray RX-8. I don't really remember because of the amount of light that was reflected off the car.

Uh..... I'm not sure why this was moved to RX-8 Media News forum. The thread was really about the movie The Island that you'll all probably be discussing in 2 weeks in the Lounge along with all the other movies you guys talk about. I'd get into it but I doubt any of you have seen the movie yet so I don't want to spoil anything. Just wanted to point out that the RX-8 was in the new action thriller as an opening to discussion about the movie..

Media? It's not a vid/article about the 8 but a movie sighting.
Lounge? Maybe, but who really talks about the RX-8 there anyways. :D
RX-8 Discussion? Uh huh...

Congrats on an orphan post, Jerky. :)

So where should we stick this thread? Aussie, Far East, Europe, Canada, or the good ol' Gulf region? :D

we could put it in the suggestion area...ie we suggest putting the RX-8 in more movies :p

(now that I think about it...I just made an extremely lame joke but am too lazy to think of anything else :D)

Next week when there's only Bad News Bears and a Rob Zombie movie as your alternative choices for the weekend, I bet you'll all know about The Island.

fantasic four was horrible, and Dark water was a TOTAL waste of time/money.

i go to the movies every weekend and the last good movie I saw was war of the worlds/cinderella man

"War of the Worlds" was decent at best - the effects were really cool, and I love those death-rays! The plot (yes, I know, based on the book) sucked in my opinion... but the movie was OK overall. I want to go see F4 and Dark Water :-)

We should have a movie review forum, rofl.

I saw the Island last night, and it was suprisingly good! Good stand on some contraversial issues. Go see it!

I did saw the 8! I thought it was Titanium though not SS. There were a lot of nice cars in the movie. All newer cars too. There some futuristic cars too. Saw a lot of the 350Z. Daimler-Chryler must've paid a boatload to include their lineup.

Yeah you're probably right it was Titanium. But the way the camera hit it with the light, it looked shiny enough to be silver, but then again when I used to have a Titanium, there were plenty of times when light shone on it the right way making it look like a Sunlight Silver.

Nice. Now I really can say I owned that car. :p

I thought Fantastic 4 has no RX8 in it... thats "The Island"...

But then again when you have Jessica Alba, you dont need to see RX-8.

How bad can a movie with Jessica Alba stripping her bra be?

The critics seemed to have totally hated The Island. I'm not sure why...I thought it was a great movie.

Then again...they may have just pulled a fast one on me by having an RX-8 in the middle of the film.

Anyway it's out now. Screw the critics see it for yourself. It's not half as bad as they say it is.

just got back from the movie too :D heh 30 mins apart today magellen :D

my review:

conservative propaganda

haha, j/k but all joking aside it was very good, but take it with a grain of salt because thats coming from someone totally biased because

1. im totally into utopian ideas/writing(even though i hate books, writing, literature whatever in general) so it was very intresting to me(especially the "boring" beginning part)

2. i love modern design(the whole society lives with contemporary/modern styled furniture and architecture

3. there was an rx8 and that one caddilac concept car there that ripped up the highway

also im also in a tossup to whether it was a titanium or sunlight...hmm someone get a screenshot...

I saw this one a few days ago. Interesting how in 2015 everyone drives 10year old cars :D . Did anyone else catch the quick shot of the brilliant black 8? It happened maybe 15-30mins after the SS/TI 8 shot? Maybe im just crazy. And what was that red thing?

truemagellen
07-23-2005, 11:26 AM
I'm pretty darn sure it was Sunlight silver...since the was a shadow cast on the road making the car look darker...but damn it looked sexy!

yes I think I saw a Black 8

and even another 8 in the distance that was torquise! (did they steal an 06 ;) just kidding)

Pretty sure it was Titanium Grey. I have one now and I've spent hours just staring at it. Anyways it was a good movie...yes it is interesting that people in 2019 drive cars from 2005. It's like if everyone drove cars from 1991 now. What also was cool was the fact that this movie was one of the few to be filmed here in Detroit. When they are being chased, and they run through a building with high colorful and decorated arches, anyone else notice that that is where Eminem and his pals were rap battling in the parking lot in 8 Mile? Filmed on location...and the empty building where they face off, that's the Train Depot. The newspapers made a big deal when the filming crew was actually in town...they shut down the streets for a while.

I think they could have fit at least one more corporate ad in there if they tried a little harder.

The car was Sunlight Silver and I believe there were actually 2 more shots -- both in the 'Jetbike' chase. One, a side-shot, right before it started shooting the truck and another, a head-on shot, as he was heading into traffic dodging cars. The one from the side appeared to be Nordic Green, the other perhaps Black or the same Nordic Green.

I think it might have actually been a Titanium Gray because of all the reflections you saw on that car.

Also I didn't remember seeing any other RX-8s but I wasn't really paying too much attention to the cars after I saw the first one.

I also found it weird that everyone was driving "old" cars.
