Start by writing a nice, professional looking sponsorship request letter and include info about yourself and your car. Also include shows you've done, shows youre going to do and any other car related activities that will put your car in front of lots of enthusiasts. You have to sell yourself as much as your car in these things, remember, once sponsored, you are a representative of the company.

Then make a long list of ever concievable part you would possible want for your car then send said letter to all of them

thats the short version, i can go into more detail if necessary but thats how ive got my 8 and my p5 sponsored

good luck, keep in mind that once you're owned you're owned, also keep in mind that you will still have to pay for stuff, it will probably be discounted but nowadays there aren't many vendors who will front your ride for you just to show up here and there. (I could be wrong too though, but from getting my car partially "sponsored", that's what I've found out.) :)

i want to get my car sponsored, here's pics of my car.
Contact SRmotorsports & ask them if they are still looking for cars to sponsor. Last time I check with them, they are still interested in sponsoring Rx-8's & they email me what they want from me which is a proposal. Write them a good proposal & they will probably sponsor you but it wont be freebies but a discount deal most likely. I'm still debating if I want to send them a proposal because I'm not sure if I want to void my warrenty by adding a lot of after market performence parts. Right now I'm just working on interior & exterior. A proposal is like a contract, you will be obligated to go to their track meets & go to carshows that they want you to go & etc... so think about all that before deciding if you really want to be sponsored because I'm sure you probably know some vendors in SF or bayarea that offer you discounts anyways.

What is the weight of the hood compared to stock. I kinda like that hood and was thinking about getting it, but I like the lightweight stock hood. Car looks good though, can't wait to see it at the BBQ.

haha I agree completely :D Put a carbon fiber hood and lambo doors and poof you think you're hot stuff.

Keep it up spiritR. I would pm shawrf1 he can give you more information. He's the guy with an identical setup as yours (with re ameniya front). He's fully sponsored by greddy.

so a nice detailed proposal, be prepare to go to shows , black hood and vertical doors.........

and do they put the stickers on for you?, or you can do it yourself?
as for the hood, it's about the same weight compare to the stock, it's not heavy at all, i always worry about water going in the engine, everytime i wash the car i have to put a big plastic bag under the hood. also the front plate problem really piss me off, it's either you look good, or you pay the $25.

damn you know shawrf1's car is EVERYWHERE now, it's on the back of a few car magazine and this month's import tuner, he have 2 bumpers , the RE and the VS, in import tuner he use the VS, but in the Greddy ad he use the RE. i personally think the RE one looks ~_~ , maybe he have no choice, i hope i can get big names on my car like he does.

Have you had cars in shows before?

First things first... rx8spiritR obviously doesn't have the "inside" hookups from the companies... SOOOoo... The thing he has to do is enter a few local shows. To show the companies that he's serious and dedicated to this. Then after awhile, write a proposal to the companies saying what you can offer them, and what you would like to accomplish with their help. Good luck getting a full sponsorship... most companies do partial where you still pay the cost of the goods, and STILL have to attend "X" number of shows per year.

Expect to spend at least 20k+ of your own money first before anyone will really take you seriously... so some flare, don't copy others, and be nice to all the big wigs.

It definately helps to have inside hookups. I have been going to shows for years and just got sponsors. Going to shows and talking with the manufactures every time really helps. It gets you on a different level and shows dedication. I wouldn't say you have to spend 20K, but it doesn't hurt :D The key is go to shows, go to shows, go to shows :D

Ive got the inside hook up with most of my sponsors, thats how i got them to sponsor my last car with no previous show experience. When i got the 8 and went to themthey didnt hesitate to hook me up and as a result, companies that i dont have the hook-up with are now starting to send stuff and not ask to many questions. Also, that fact that my car is in the upcoming Eagle One brochures helps as well.

Ive done a lot of shows and then when i take the Fuzion STI to shows for my work i get to talk to alot of people. Plus i go to both IAS shows and SEMA.

best of luck, hit up companies that dont already have a RX8 project out there. Write a Business Plan type proposal. What are the services you will give to the company, it's great to be friendly with the companies at shows, but its better to have insight as to what their company is about, who thier customers are, what magazines are looking for when shooting cars, etc. do your own research, don't call them with 1 million questions, or 1 million promises, it can be irritating. Companies get tons of calls for sponsorships. They'll take notice if you have a good background and can show them your not full of it. Follow through is the most important once you are sponsored. Send them magazine clips, pics at the show with feed back about how that co's products were recieved. This is very important, it establishes your reputation in the industry. Later you can use that co. as a resource for the future. Also try to stay away from copy co's. Most high caliber co's don't want anything to do with other copy part co's.

free stuff.. I get that all the time..
Hey matt let me fix up your web site for free stuff.. ( 1st insult )
Hey matt sponser me and ill put a sticker on my car.. ( how many shows have you done ?) none,, (and whats so special about your Rx8 ? ... ) Umm i dont know.. ....

Anyone that is truly inneed of a real sponser will be in car shows now.. and a few mags to. Put up a web site.. make some intrest in your car.. Prove your worth some low prices on parts.. Yes low.. no ones going to give you free stuff anymore.. But last of all.. dont give up.. If your really into showing your car put lots of hard work and time into it.. it will happen..

1) You just nailed it right there... not enough of your time. You will never get a sponsorship if a company knows "your" time is more valuable than to promote their products.

2) You have been whining about 1 shipped rim for the longest time. I hope you understand that with a sponsorship, they will not want to deal with whiners.

3) You haven't even entered your car into a car show, and you expect companies/businesses to sponsor you? What type of drugs have you been taking? It's suppose to be a mutual beneficiary opportunity.

i third that. I talk to outlaw once in a while he's straight to the point and tell it like it is type of cat that helped me a great deal (no pun intended ;)) . We need more people like that in the board, keeps people in check. No siding on this conversation, just siding on his character.

okay so the arguement is over. do not continue it in this thread or on others. tru681 - your posts were very trollish. any more liekthem from you and your suspended for 7days. everyone else chill out.

now- Id like sponsors as well. Ive been to 3 shows with my car and came in second in my category at the last. I got beat by corksports company 8. I already sent aproposal to one company who said no. then i found out they are runninga contest to win an 8 all kitted up etc grrrr. im going to resubmit to them with a better proposal. the first one was the first i ever wrote and i can make it splashier have more impact etc. Why should i be sponsored? why my car? cause im ZOOM FING 44 dammit!!:D::D:D:D imagine how much advertising a company can get from sponsoring me!! hell just a link in my sig would be seen a hell of alot of more than most other peoples cars!!:):) ;)

Thanks to those that said something positive about me... especially the ever-so-quiet-recently Mikeb. :P Glad you're still lurking around! Next meet I'll seeya is probably Sevenstock, will be too busy to go to any OC ones for awhile. I try to help out the other members of this board with my knowledge of aftermarket products... if there is a product out there, either I've seen/heard it in person, or I've wasted my own money on it. Hell, 3 bodykits later, I'm somewhat pleased, still needs improvements. Can't wait to see Zoom's Autobahn kit if you show up at Sevenstock also. And BIU, NOOOoooOo.. Stay with Ings wing, don't leave the family!

But ya, I say it like it is... not trying to step on people to make myself feel better. Remember the guy with the super hair tonic? Just telling it like it is.

Effort speaks volumes in the Sponsorship world. Like Zoom posted above.. he's writing proposals, and after that, he's writing more proposals. Entering car shows, taking the initiative. That will gain you a lot of attention in the import market. Don't act like you DESERVE to get a sponsorship... just be open to helping their company in advertising their products. The other part is having some connection, be friends from within the company. The last ingredient is obviously money. It'll take some money just to start it up. Once you have all three, go with it... sponsorship heaven.
