Is it me ...or do these emblems look like what Toyota calls "Black Pearl Emblems". It is usually an option that looks nice on black cars........hmmmm

I know from my last car.....2000 Toyota Solara SLE, that you could order Black Pearl Emblems as an option. They looked like Black metal instead of the typical chrome. The dealership would order several this way on black cars.....it tended to look more sporty.....(it does). They also had "GOLD" emblems as an option.

The pic of the inbound RX8 on the transporter looks like it has the black emblems....which would IMO look very nice. However I never saw it as an opyion...so it could be an illusion.

Could be a protective plastic to keep it clean and prevent scratches until delivery.

or maybe that's just how the picture turned out due to high contrast lighting during the daytime and the emblems being in the shade...that's a lot of f-stops...no my ex-wife and mom are both not professional photographers...

It is probably just the light, but it would be cool if that was available.:)

My '85 RX-7 has the 'black' logos for MAZDA and the trim around the window is all black where most cars are chrome. Dealer did not know it was coming that way till it showed up. I agree it would be great to have the same 'blackout' on my RX-8. Guess I will have to add that to my list with the clear side markers. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there black Mazda emblems already available for other cars? I could have sworn that I saw some the last time I was in the parts department in Freeman, Irving, TX.

Not quite. The ones I saw, and the ones that we are talking about have a very nice finish. It's more like a black chrome with a clearcoat kind of finish. "Black Pearl" is a very good description.

That "Mazda" looks like just flat black paint.

That logo is the same type finish as the ones on my '85 RX-7.

I was searching abt the emblem today, and got to know that Mazda has "Black-Pearl Emblem kit" for their 2001 626 and Tribute. But don't know whether they are producing one for the 2003/4 models including the RX-8.. Hopefully they will.

There was a member here with the black pearl, or black chrome RX8 emblems, I can't find it now. I just stumbled onto this thread instead. :(

I ordered new ones and painted them gloss black. Didn't want to mess with re-3M taping them.....

What about gold emblems? Gold rules :D.

They look really good cgrx, is the gloss glack the kind of paint I can buy from like Kragen/Pep Boys or something. Or is there a special kind of paint for outside conditions that is needed?

I used regular high gloss paint. I used no primer and no clear coat - I advise you to. They are still fine and holding up after 2 months

for my emblem i sanded the chrome down then i clear coated it then i had spray painted it flat black, looks stealthy, its been about 5months still look great
