View Full Version : Main Forum Getting Interesting!
oilman 07-14-2003, 08:06 AM With our American buddies now getting their cars, the main forum is getting interesting.
New pics, some nice ones as well.
Some excellent first drive reviews.
Some waxing lyrical about their new cars (I would too)
This week, there will be plenty to read and digest, can I suggest that anyone who spots something of interest or a great pic, posts a link on this thread. It'll save us all wading through the hundreds of posts that about to happen.
Or copy and paste it here of course!
Cheers
Oilman
MarkW 07-14-2003, 12:05 PM Ive been following it with interest. That will be us in 3-4 months time. I just hope our cars are not held back for so long once they arrive in the UK.

cw007 07-14-2003, 12:32 PM here is a thread worthy of mention i think

nice piccies...
Hercules 07-14-2003, 12:36 PM I think I might get my car today.... we will see :)
I'll keep you posted.. I am always lurking in the regional forums too :0
morganrogers 07-15-2003, 06:55 AM Just been to the main forum....
It is both thrilling and depressing. Thrilled for all of course , but dammit - I WANT IT NOW ! ! ! ! !
:)
morganrogers 07-15-2003, 06:57 AM Just had another thought. (well repeat of an old thought , but prompted by all these happy yanks)
It will be interesting to see what faults are thrown up owver the coming weeks. Hopefully nothing major (a la TT , A-Class) for I doubt that could be fixed by our build date.
But other stuff (trim items , port sticking etc) could easily be rectified before our build. i.e. We may actually have an upside to this wait - we may get v1.1 cars....
Or am I scratching around for positives in the delay ? Probably. Go back to my previous post I WANT IT NOW ! ! !
M.
RobDickinson 07-15-2003, 07:14 AM But the cars have been out for a while in Japan now, and still no problems that we know off.
I'm sure there will be some slight changes but isnt thre always?
MarkW 07-15-2003, 07:47 AM One of the things I noticed is that the US guys are talking of another production run for them that starts August 1st.
As our run starts July 28th, does this mean they have the facility to build 2 different specs at the same time (ie two production lines) or are they only building UK cars for 4 days?
RobDickinson 07-15-2003, 08:17 AM I thought we got the whole production from 28/7 to 20/8, as that would add up to about 1000 cars.
when i visited the factory in 1993, Mazda where building all their models on the 1 production run. So you had a 323, Mx5 and Rx7 running down the line. (Dont forget to factor in the different specs within each model as well)
So yes, it is more than Mazda can, and will build multi market models from the one production facility.
At this time, 1993, Mazda where very much at the forfront of this technology, so id be surprised if this isnt the case today.
MarkW 07-16-2003, 03:03 PM Weve seen so many pics of the car , but I came across this one on the main forum which shows what the car looks like at night with the lights on, which I like.................
oilman 07-16-2003, 03:25 PM Agree Mark, a different and great picture.
I've seen some corking pictures since the weekend, may post some of my faves later.
Would love to see a pic of the dash at night if any of our American friends have one. Boowana, Herc etc.

oilman 07-16-2003, 05:18 PM I have read some great reviews both personal and press lately and picked up some awesome pics. There are plenty more to come from across the pond!
Here are some of my favorites for those who may have missed them as there is so much to read at the moment.

1. Best Pic of Nordic Green IMO (stunning colour but a bit too near black for me)
oilman 07-16-2003, 05:24 PM Nice contrast Red next to Black.............
oilman 07-16-2003, 05:25 PM Good to see so many colours in one place
oilman 07-16-2003, 05:27 PM Jeeez this TIT looks good with strafes on it!
oilman 07-16-2003, 05:29 PM What colour doesn't this car look good in (yellow excepted)
oilman 07-16-2003, 05:35 PM This rear looks perfectly in proportion to me.....
More Kylie than J-Lo:D
oilman 07-16-2003, 05:37 PM If my red one is this colour then I'll be like a pig in sh1t, this is an awesome colour and paint job.............Great pic!!
Can't wait 3+ months:(
Cheers

pelucidor 07-16-2003, 07:52 PM The red looks great in pics. It looks MUCH better in real life even indoors under artificial lights (at a car-show for example). It looks VASTLY better in bright sunlight outdoors. Photos do not do this colour justice - good choice.

c170673 07-17-2003, 02:05 AM Those dash pictures are amazing (if a little out of focus).
Am I right in thinking the blue illumination is general (without the lights on) and the two versions (with the lights on) are the red numbers and the bright white numbers (I assume this is with the intensity of the dash lights adjusted from low to high respectively)
The more and more images I see of the car and the different elements the more I want my car now.
The next 3+ months are going to be difficult.
Chris :D :D
Lensman 07-17-2003, 02:27 AM Useful images but it makes me want to scream: "FOCUS!!!"
That tit grey with the strafes looks great, lines really suit the colour. As better resolution pictures come out the more I prefer the more understated sophisticated grey colour.

cw007 07-17-2003, 06:14 AM the eejit has focused on the steering column hence the distortion.
if you gonna take pictures do it right.
oilman 07-24-2003, 05:01 PM Saw these pics on the main forum and I thought they were some of the best I've seen.
The silver looks great, love the one with the doors open
The red one, well, what can I say except.................
Cheers
Oilman
oilman 07-24-2003, 05:02 PM Silver!!!
oilman 07-24-2003, 05:02 PM Red again!!
oilman 07-24-2003, 05:03 PM silver again!!
oilman 07-24-2003, 05:04 PM Red again, last one for now!!
MarkW 07-25-2003, 02:11 AM Nice find Oilman!
Still dont get tired of seeing pictures of the Red, especially when it looks so good :D
I must admit I instantly dismissed the Silver, but some of the more recent pics have looked very nice. Shame we dont get the black/red interior with it or it could have been an option....
c170673 07-25-2003, 02:28 AM I found this on the main forum here (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7492) .
I think the comments by others below say it all.

oilman 07-31-2003, 04:38 PM Found these pics on the main forum and after much debate here on the virtues of each car, it's time to decide on looks.
For my money the 8 just about gets it but, they are very similar from the front. Is this a Japanese thing??
They look similar sizes too which surprised me.

From The Front
oilman 07-31-2003, 04:39 PM Continued, from the side
oilman 07-31-2003, 04:41 PM If there was ever a picture to sway me to Titanium then this would be it. I'm sure even MarkW would agree, this is an absolute beauty!!

bugbear 07-31-2003, 05:08 PM wow
if my ti grey looks that good i could forgive mazda anything
AndyPearce 07-31-2003, 05:09 PM Such a sweet picture of the Titanium - thats with the 'appearance pack' on as well isn't it.
As for the RX-8 S2000 comparisons - too close to call from the front, RX8 easily from an angle.:)
bugbear 07-31-2003, 05:10 PM the mx-5? and the rx-8 - how similar looking up front? how different in size?
EDIT: Stupid me - S2000 not MX-5 - does look dull though
morganrogers 08-01-2003, 12:22 AM Yes Yes !
The Oilman is coming around !
I KNEW this day would come -
Oilman....Oilman... Titanium............. You know you want to.....
;)
Fab tit grey picture Oilman. I wonder how much all the extra costs on that baby.
rael
Titanium Grey 08-01-2003, 03:58 AM I've been thinking about the Apperance package for a while and have been comparing all the pictures with and without the kit I could find.
I still havent come to a decision, I think it looks just as good with or without the kit; slightly bigger and meaner with; smoother and sleeker without.
I hope I get to compare the cars in the flesh with and without the aero package before I have to decide. :(
c170673 08-01-2003, 04:20 AM My only concern with the "appearance package" is that fact that the front air dam is lower and living in a rural area I would be catching it all of the time.
I do like the look of the front accent.

Oilman,
Yes not bad for a TIT, but give me Velocity Red any day. Just think of that dull black leather interior. :D
I think I would like the bits the americans call the "appearance package" but it depends how much they cost.
It nice to see the RX-8 against the S2000, my number one and two car choice.
The RX8 looks vaguely similar from ther front, but as much as I like the look of the S, it is a bit bland against the RX8.
The S is a great looking car, but I think the RX8 will turn more heads, maybe only because it is new and different.

Didn't get swayed, just fancied this bit of TIT:D
Could say you're a TIT if you don't get RED hey!!

MarkW 08-02-2003, 04:36 AM Oilman,
Have you seen these new stunning Velocity Red pics.
I want my car to look like this if I can afford all the extras :-
Tints, strakes, rotary accents, exhaust finishers and the US appearance kit (minus the spoiler)

Are those massive window wipers after sales extras?
rael
c170673 08-05-2003, 02:16 AM I must say, even though I have ordered Black the Red does look fantastic, it seems to look so different under various lighting conditions.
Chris
morganrogers 08-05-2003, 02:35 AM Thankyou rael - Now people know I not working , due to the fact I just blew coffee out of my nose.
Massive windscreen wipers. :D:D:D:D

renegade_si 08-05-2003, 03:02 AM Well I like them, but do they come in any other colour than yellow/orange?
