Well, tomorrow car will be parked and wait for new buyer to arrive on Sunday to pick it up. Thanks to this website I had a fast easy sell without having to pay for advertisement. I bought both rx8 and STI last year because I simply could not decide between the two, and my two personalities. :) It's been a great pleasure owning both of these fine machines at one time, but now it's time to be sensible, and put my hard earned money towards my home. With a new job starting soon, I'll be cutting my annual mileage in half (35k miles per year to about 15-18k miles per year), so there is no more need for two vehicles. This was a tough choice, although I'm sure rx8 owners are wondering why I chose to keep STI. The main reason is because as year round car it's simply more practical. I guess the performance of the STI was enough to win me over in this difficult decision. This car will be sadly missed. Compared to STI, it's so much better looking inside and out, and so much more refined and luxurious, with more amenities, and gives you a feel of driving no other car can give you. Rotaries are truly wonderful engines. Since you have to earn your power, unlike the STI, it makes the driving experience that much more special.
In the end, one of these cars has to go, and the RX8 just doesn't fit me right as a year round car. I had thought about snow tires for the rx8 because with the DSC and traction control, it's proven to be capable. The thought of using a car as beautiful as this through winter just didn't seem right though, and STI is a clearly better winter car. I look at RX8 like a dream car, not a year round daily. I'm teaching myself discipline, and preparing better for future. Paying off the rest I owe on STI, and putting a nice chunk into the mortgage is the smart way to go at this point in my life. The decision is simple really. Sometimes you have to force yourself to make sacrifices. I chose to get rid of the car I actually liked more overall, simply for practicality and durability reasons. I just feel the STI is going to hold up better long term. I am glad I bought car though, and it was well worth the money for the 18 months I have owned it. When I feel financially comfortable enough to add a fun summer car I'll be checking out the future RX8 no doubt about it. Thanks for reading.

An excellent and mature choice.
You will be back when the big $$ starts rolling in!

Nicely put. Somehow you introduced logic in place of passion into a discussion about RX-8's :) .

Thanks. I guess it's kind of obvious that this is upsetting to me. This is a no win situation, and it took a while to fight off my passion. There have been countless times I was gonna back out of the sale, but kept pushing logic onto myself, knowing this is the best choice. The passion will never die, I can assure you of that. This without a doubt is the nicest car I have ever owned, and may end up staying that way. I'm thankful that I was able to own a dream car, because when this car first came out, my eyes were glued to it like a hawk, and my mouth was drooling. I just had to experience owning one, and it was everything I thought it would be. I just left out the practical part when I got both cars. It's not like the STI is all that practical, but for my location and lifestyle it's a step above. I'm sure this website will continue to draw in my passion, so I'm sticking around, because I'll never fully get over the loss of this car. I'm gonna pretend I still have an STI payment, and put that money into a car fund. and see what the future holds for the rx8. Thanks!! :)

Only goes to prove to yourself that you are a strong minded and smart person. Good work on doing what needed to be done. You should be proud of yourself!

You could perhaps consider leasing the 8 in the future if you want it for just a little longer!

You had them both?!?!?!?!?!?

Well...that's just great so I wont be crying for you now that you "ONLY" have the STI, lol. You made the right choice and putting your money into a house is always smarter than into a car.

I hope the best!!!

You are right. I basically spoiled myself rotten. I deserve no sympathy. I had one chance to live for the moment and buy and own two of the hottest sports cars when they were brand new, at a relatively young age, knowing I'd have to eventually buckle down and invest in future. If I kept buying new expensive cars like this, I'd never have chance to ever retire. I just hope STI can endure the role of a durable commuter/fun car. I'm hopng for 5 years at least without major problems, then hopefully with enough TLC it will prove to be a worthy beater car after that. If and when I begin to feel it's going to let me down, it will be traded in for more practical car. Right now that car feels solid and durable, and under normal driving without pounding on it all the time, I think it can go 150+k miles easily. We shall see. :)

Hey...how about the Legacy GT...that car has AWD, is pretty fast, and looks much nicer than the STI. LOL...look at me, trying to tempt you with another car...sorry, don't listen to me and keep making the smart moves for your future.

I looked at the Legacy GT as a possible replacement for STI, but only if I was gonna keep RX8. It's bad enough I never really got enough use out of RX8 for what I paid and what I sold it for. I'm not going to take another hit on STI anytime soon. I'm gonna keep it and use it to get all my money's worth, and the only way it's being traded in anytime soon is if it starts giving me problems. I do agree though, the Legacy GT looks WAYYY better. I have to find a way to get rid of that stupid wing. :)

Yes...the wing is an issue I have with it. Just get something more reasonable and less boy racer...

Well unlike many people, I don't buy a car for image. The wing bothers me personally, but I can live with it. It's what distinguishes that car as an STI. I don't care how I am perceived by others. If you owned an STI, you wouldn't be saying that. This car is addictive, and brings out passion once you drive it, just like RX8 does from looking at it.

I know...don't get me wrong, if you like it that's all that matters. It's just my personal taste...you love it, that's all that matters.
