The lowest off set i have listed on any of the wheels i carry in 17" for the RX8 is 35mm. the required offset can be different from wheel to wheel depending on the shape of the spoke. you also need to consider the cneter bore to ensure the wheels will be hub centric. other wise you might end up with vibration problems.

who makes the wheels and what model is it?

I would recommend calling the company that sells the wheels (have the partnumber off of the wheel) and see if they will tell you.

 

That size seems like it's realy pushing the boundries. Compared to the stock 18x8 +50mm offset rims, 17x8.5 +30mm wheels would have a lot of room (13.65mm extra) on the inside edge (which is fine), but would use up 26.35mm of room on the outside edge. This is more than any other wheel I've seen advertized as fitting the front wheels of the 8 (although it's perfectly fine for the rears). The max tirerack sells only takes up 18.35 more room on the outside edge (18x8.5 +38 BBS LM). Good Win Racing claims the RX-8 is able to fit even larger wheels, but even the max of what they are selling only takes up 25.05mm more room on the outside edge (17x19.5 +44 Enkei NT03+M). I'd probably only concider the 17x8.5 +30mm size if it's a really good deal, and I'd perhaps give a call to the Good Win Racing people to see if you can get more info on their setup and how much extra clearance they think there could be.

 

if nobody has tried to fit them on an RX-8 there is no way to know if they clear the brake caliper or not until you try. An offset dimension is no guarantee, it just depends on how the spokes are formed and hardly none of the wheel manufacturers provide spoke dimension information

Otherwise the offset for the width will probably require flaring the front fender. A 10" wheel with 285 tire fits the front fine (requires correct offset). The bad thing is you are creating a ton of scrub radius moving the wheel center out like that. It will probably pull and tramline on every little crease or rut.

 

Nahhhh, dont call them. Well you can but they might tell you they dont fit. I called to see if Piaa Super Rozza's would fit my RX-8. The rep on the phone said no. But a local shop put a 19x9 on the back of my 8 and it was perfict.
