View Full Version : price payed poll ibfubar2000 07-12-2003, 03:10 PM what did you guys pay for your rx-8?? dont need full info. just over, same, or under. RotoRooter 07-12-2003, 03:59 PM So far I am the only guy who says he has paid under MSRP. I got $700 off, but have been keeping it sort of low key since I have not signed on the dotted line yet. As soon as I do, I will tell all how to get it and where . . . give me a few weeks. BTW, I am looking to get a college grad $500 off on top of this. Wish me Luck ibfubar2000 07-12-2003, 04:04 PM yeah i know mine will be under msrp also. (dealer employee) but i have not voted either until it is signed. ibfubar2000 07-12-2003, 04:07 PM before anybody else says it....payed=paid. i know this i just misspelled somehow. doh! rx8racer 07-12-2003, 04:11 PM I got $600 off sticker but I have not signed on the dotted line yet. It should be this week. RotoRooter 07-12-2003, 04:21 PM Good deal, I am glad to know I am not the only one . . . I frankly don't understand all the MSRP pre-orders. This is not an exotic car, it is the new hope for Mazda during a recession. I hope more people walk in asking for a few bucks off. I hope this thread blows up with posts, perfect to print out and show dealerships. This is my 3rd pre-order of a vehicle, 2003 H2 - $1700 off 2004 RX8 - $700 off 2005 Lotus Elise - $500 off And while I am at it, why is everyone paying BS prep fees, and this and that fee. It should be the negotiated cost of the car, plus $100 title and tag and whatever you sales tax is. DO NOT TAKE ALL THE OTHER FEES. Destiantion charge takes care of all prep costs Happy Haggling . . . remember they can make plenty of profit and still give the customer a couple of hundred off. Trying calling your local dealer's top across-town rivals and tell them it would just take $200-$300 for them to "steal" a quick sale away from their competition. akrx8 07-12-2003, 09:07 PM my dealer and i signed the propsal at msrp and i got the copy also.this is pretty good for ak cause all dealers have a markup here, atleast 1000,they say its the price of doing buisness up here.you can get cars lower than msrp if its something they have lots of and arent moving but on a car like the 8 its a good deal here. ramfann 07-13-2003, 12:52 PM i ordered mine at $500 under and tried the mitsubishi challenge to take another $100 back. i believe my dealer has about 20 comming in and just a few sold.....i know he would be willing to take $500 off for anyone else seeing that i have said what i got. RotoRooter 07-14-2003, 04:45 PM Are there any more people who want to vote on this? RX8 Seller 07-14-2003, 04:51 PM Are you all kidding me??????? I work for what I beleive to be the only!!! Mazda dealer in Houston that is not marking the cars up over invoice, but below invoice?? that is just crazy!! If there is a dealer that hasn't sold almost every one of these before it hits the ground, they are doing something wrong. Paying MSRP and being one of the few to get the vehicle is a good deal in itself. Calll me crazy, but the car is worth every penny of MSRP. We have the right to make a living too. Richard invoice = MSRP.... sorry mistyped!! mrpink 07-14-2003, 05:14 PM while i don't think that our founding fathers agreed that you have the right to make a living, you do have the right to pursue such an endeavour if it fits into your definition of happiness. on a similar note, it is my understanding that the whatever amount is paid over the dealer invoice price, is split is some fashion between the dealership and the salesperson. of course there may be other parties that get a cut of the take that i am unaware of. so what service does the dealership or the salesperson perform that warrants more money? when i go to a dealership, i know what vehicle i want and what options i want (all thanks to the wonderful internet) and while some customers may need some instruction on how to work the power locks, child seat harness, or air conditioning, i know there are others out there who do not need to led by the hand and can either figure it out or RTFM. so why do we have to pay for salesman? what service do they offer? wouldn't it be nice to be able to enter in the information relevant to the vehicle you desire into a web form, talk to the guy in the finance department, agree on a price a few percentage points over invoice to make the dealership happy they made a decent margin, go down to the dealership, pay and drive off. i guess i just don't see a need for car sales staff. but perhaps i'm being short-sighted and overlooking some vital value-added service that my salesperson performs. if so, please enlighten me. mac 07-14-2003, 05:25 PM Mazda dealer in Houston that is not marking the cars up over invoice, but below invoice?? that is just crazy!! Hmm RX8 Seller, please read carefully before exploding. No one ever said "under invoice" they said "under MSRP!!!! BIG difference. If you include the estimated markup (8%), holdback (2%) financing incentive (2.7% btw 9% leasing is highway robbery) that is a total of about 12.7% profit for a car that took about 5 minutes to sell and 10 minutes to process the paperwork  ... oh yeah I almost forgot that most dealerships charge an administration fee and oops forgot about the Freight & PDI charges too. So please don't ask for us to feel for you when we ask for $500 under MSRP. commentator 07-14-2003, 06:54 PM I have a question, I do not want to be mis-understood here but when I hear people say they paid under sticker, the question is, what sticker. What I would like to see is how much you paid for the car total, contract signed, tax, title, etc. That is the only price that counts. There are a lot of "stickers" out there on cars these days. For example an RX8 with a GT package, nothing else retails for 31,100, before tax, title, etc. Seven hundred under sticker comes to 30,400 That includes no individual options as listed on the mazda site. Those of you who are quoting the price you paid please give the numbers as they can be checked. Many dealers add a sticker to the right of the Manufacturer sticker. I would like to know because if you really are getting that I am going to tell my dealer to come down or I will go elsewhere. As someone said this is not a rare car. I mean no offense to anyone but I find it hard to believe. :p ramfann 07-14-2003, 09:00 PM ok mazda rx-8 lightning yellow: 6 speed - 26,680 transportation - 520 grand touring package - 3900 rear wing spoiler - 355 total - 31,455 less 500 30,955 this is before taxes are added. add taxes add 10 for inspection add 20 for processing registration and there we have it. racrx 07-14-2003, 09:31 PM After about a year, maybe less, everyone should be able to get one for under msrp!!:D takahashi j 07-14-2003, 10:22 PM How is it that some ppl get below MSRP??? I know that if u are a graduating student, you can get 500 off... there are some of you out there that got $700 off on a car that hasnt even come out yet!!! Do you guys have any special tactics??? This will be my first new car purchase...P/M me if it gets too lengthy or is too revealing:) RotoRooter 07-14-2003, 11:57 PM I have done a ton a posts regarding getting an 8 under MSRP. The best is to make a dealer think they are "stealing" business from another dealer. In other words, "dealer A is near my house and I just spent 10 hours talking to him, but I am driving 25miles from my house because Mike (everyone sells to a Mike) says you guys are the best, he bought 3 mazdas from you guys . . . anyway, since you guys are so far, give me a deal I can't get anywhere else and I will take up only 5minutes of your time and still make you over $2000. Do the deal and put it in writing I will bring my car here for servicing and all my frat buddies to buy this car too." I have more tactics than this. Simply stated if I can get and H2 and an Lotus Elise below MSRP, I can get a Mazda. To those asking about my deal: 6speed GT with NAVI: $33,100 MINUS DISCOUNT: 700 PLUS 6% TAX: 1944 I will get my own registration. Out the Door: $34,344 MINUS DEPOSIT: $500 I will bring them a check for $32,844. Still trying to get the Mitsubishi challenge and the College Credit I am willing to post my contract once I sign ibfubar2000 07-15-2003, 12:06 AM Originally posted by takahashi j How is it that some ppl get below MSRP??? Can you check my VIN through the NAVI? hehehehe MAKAVELLIS 08-08-2003, 12:04 AM I will pay $800 over invoice! mx5-->rx8 08-08-2003, 12:36 AM With 87 votes, only one admits to being over msrp. I don't know about other markets, but in Las Vegas, there is 1 dealer with 2 lots. They are WAY OVER MSRP, and the nearest competition I know of is in St. George, Utah is over 120 miles away. Oh, one more thing, when I was there last week they wouldn't even discuss dealing, they have a take it or leave it attitude. I am sure this will change as the inventory piles up, but for now they give the impression that they don't feel the need to accomodate anyone. Finally, Vegas is kind of a showy place and usually when a new car comes out you see a bunch on the road and at the hot spots in town. To date, I have seen 1 RX8. I am sure there are several in the area, but I just haven't seen any evidence of it yet. To those in competitive markets who were able to get the RX8 at a reasonable price, congratulations. RX-8 2004 08-08-2003, 11:49 AM Yes I paid only $300.00 over dealer Invoice in MARYLAND. You live close to MD? Contact me I will share WHO to contact. zoom44 08-08-2003, 01:52 PM MSRP. $30,400 touring plus cd changer. no tax in Oregon:D Elara 08-09-2003, 05:55 PM Bringing this one back to the surface. I was finally able to vote in here! Paid MSRP of $32,564 with rotary and appearance packages, and spoiler. rotarymagic 08-09-2003, 07:35 PM payed 34,900 fully loaded, appearance, nav, rotary accents, GT package mikeb 08-09-2003, 07:48 PM fully loaded, red, nav, tint, lojack, 18 inch wheels, app pack 36,888 mac 08-09-2003, 08:18 PM OK, I'm getting a little confused. Those of you who are saying you are paying a little over invoice ie $300 (RX-8 2004), $800 (MAKAVELLIS) could you please indicate what you mean by invoice. To me and the rest of the world Dealer invoice is what the dealers pays Mazda, MSRP is the price suggested by Mazda (web site) and Sticker is what the dealer list on the window. No offense but anyone claiming paying Invoice or near invoice for an 8 better be willing to back their claim (ie invoice). I just can't see a dealer selling at invoice unless it's to an employee (a really good one), family member or you got some dubious pics of the guy being naughty:eek: Please enlighten us with how you got to pay Invoice :D Elak 08-10-2003, 12:01 AM There are many ways to flog a cat. I did pay MSRP, but on the other hand got quite a bit under recommended KBB for my trade-in Eclipse. Those who have a trade-in should include any such loss in the total purchase cost. I'd also like to second those who say that this is not an exclusive car, indeed I believe I read an interview with a Mazda official (rotarynews?) who bluntly said that there was no reason for buyers to pay over MSRP, this car is being massproduced and will not be in short supply. If you wanted one the same week as the first ones were delivered to the US (got mine 7/18), then you may have to pay more (like I ended up doing effectively). /Elak mx5-->rx8 08-10-2003, 12:11 AM Originally posted by mac OK, I'm getting a little confused. I bought with CASH, and NO TRADE. I will scan the the sales recept in the next few days and post it. I do not have a scanner ...I have to find someone who does.... 2004 Winning Blue Automatic with Sport Package = $25643.00 plus Taxes and Tags. (MSRP on this is $27500.00) Contact me at Jeffrey_Kiley@Excite.com if you have any other questions. mac 08-10-2003, 08:01 PM Wow, Jeffrey we can't wait until you post the invoice  There's gotta to be someone near Maryland that would be willing to scan? You could fax it to someone locally who could then scan it. Dealers around here don't like people paying cash since they don't get their kick backs from the banks for the lease/financing. Trade-ins are also a source of revenue for the dealer since they usually offer below the wholesale value of the car (black book) when they are selling a hot seller. They then either flip it to the wholesaler for a quick profit or actually put it on the lot if they think they can sell it quickly and make a killing. I wish I was on that side of the border :( Up in the great white north we don't pay over MSRP but we don't get much below it either :( There is starting to be a few automatics on the lots so they might be willing to start dealing on these but I wouldn't expect a big discount. Erik's8 08-11-2003, 03:55 PM I just signed an offer of $1000 off MSRP! mx5-->rx8 08-11-2003, 04:36 PM Originally posted by Erik's8 I just signed an offer of $1000 off MSRP! The dealer did not automatically fall off his chair to offer but after some negotiation and him knowing I had a an offer on an 8 somewhere else 1000 was offered if I did it "right now". I decided to go with my original dealer, so I turned it down. This was from a dealer in Burlingame California. No trade-in was involved. Erik's8 08-11-2003, 04:52 PM Nordic Green 2004 RX8 GT, Nav, black/chapparal, app. package, rear spolier. No trade in. It was a one day sale at this particular dealer. brothervoodoo 08-11-2003, 04:55 PM Originally posted by Erik's8 It was a one day sale at this particular dealer. Isn't it always a one day sale, a one time offer, blah, blah, blah... ;) Erik's8 08-11-2003, 04:57 PM Yeah, I am sure it was blah, blah... antman_x 08-11-2003, 06:46 PM feel like I got ripped. I paid over MSRP but got what I felt was a decent trade in. I think net net I paid about $100 over. But its such a bad ass car I don't even care. mac 08-11-2003, 07:13 PM One thing I've learned about the computing industry that needs to be applied to the car industry. Once you have bought it don't look back (ie don't compare what you paid vs what people are paying now). It will usually break your heart. :( emailists 08-12-2003, 03:22 AM I called Jeff's dealer in Maryland (even though I live in NY) They said they would not give the same deal to Jeff's friends- his was a deal to help promote the car, etc. But they were willing to give something off. Though every dealer around here wants MSPR (and I seem to know more about what's cars are even available than some dealers -The best I could was $300 of a base 6sped. Then in talking with another dealer I got offered $1000 off a Grand touring package. I really didn't want any extra's - the car is great as is, and the cloth is really nice - but I couldn't pass up that deal in the color I want TI- and will be here in 2 weeks or so. The dealer has no base cars in TI- only more loaded ones... when I told some dealers who called me back, they were not willing to budge. My guess is that in 3 months there will be alot of cars around- dealers claim to be getting 15 in a time. |
