View Full Version : Monday for me
eccles 07-11-2003, 05:54 PM Got an email from my dealer. Apparently my car could have been delivered tomorrow, but they've put it off until Monday. This is primarily because there's an issue with clearance on the trucks, and Mazda is recommending close supervision during the offloading process. Since the RX-8 enthusiasts (hi, budaman!) won't be there on Saturday to supervise, they figured it was better to postpone another couple of days to ensure everything goes smoothly.
Mildly disappointing, but having waited this long I'll endure another couple of days to ensure my baby doesn't get dinged at the last hurdle.
ibfubar2000 07-11-2003, 05:57 PM looks like mine will be here monday too. but i wont be available to pick it up until tuesday. we do not accept transporters after 5:00pm pst and if they come after hours they have to come back on monday! ssince it is already 4:00 i wont get it until tuesday :( or perhaps monday evening late :(<P> but it better be here tuesday at the latest!!
Jump120MPH 07-11-2003, 05:59 PM Yep I talked to my dealer today and he said the same thing. There is an issue with the ramps on the trucks. The cars will scrap them. So they are taking some extra time with them. I just found out that mine starts production week 1 in August. Man thats a LONG wait til I get mine. Im excited.
Magnesium 07-11-2003, 07:06 PM Mine starts production on Aug 1st too.
Damn the wait. Nothing compared to some of these guys though.
Good for you, eccles!!
Be sure to post a full review, eh?
Oh, I'd love to hear about the quality of the sound system on yours, since it's not a Bose (mine won't be either).
khoney 07-12-2003, 06:41 PM Eccles,
can yu give me some info on your order, e.g what day was it built, when dod it arrive at port, last 4 digits of VIN?
I was supposedly a Jan 8th pre-order, but my dealer in San Antonio is now claiming that the car is just on its way to Dallas. I'm getting a little nervous, because I have a vacation planned for the end of the month, and I don't want to miss the pick-up.
brownchiro 07-12-2003, 06:51 PM Did all my paper work, financing, etc today, 7-12-03. Ready to pick up Monday. Car looks great, just needs to be checked by dealer early Monday and do state inspection.
khoney 07-12-2003, 07:21 PM OK, now I'm getting pissed - can you tell me the last 4 digits of your VIN, brownchiro? I'm 2035, and supposedly not even in Dallas yet. I'm beginning to think my dealer converted an allocation to a pre-order after the fact :(
Urchin 07-12-2003, 07:31 PM I am also getting perturbed. My car (1058) has been sitting at the port in California since 6-17, it only has to get to Arizona, but no car and no e-mail that the car has been released. People in Texas and parts east are getting e-mails and cars, and theirs must have gotten to the port later. This is really dampening my excitement for getting the car, and future Mazda's.

Don't get too preturbed, Urchin. I'm in TX. My car came in 6/17 also, and has been sitting at the Midlothian port for well over 2 weeks now. I've gotten no email, and car has not shown released yet. But our good friend budaman here at Mazda South tells me they're expecting many more cars to be released Monday. Hopefully mine will be one of them, and I'll see it Monday or Tuesday. Hang in there! It's gonna be worth it!
Urchin 07-12-2003, 07:54 PM Thanks Javahut, I understand what you say, and it is rational. It just seems Mazda is going out of their way to aggravate as many as it can. Frustration does funny things to folks.

Mazda South also ordered a Yellow for me when the first allocation closed (they had one unused allocation), and I believe that may be arriving on Monday too. Its VIN is 2079, but I don't know any shipping details.

rx8daniel 07-12-2003, 10:51 PM A bit off-topic, but I did the Mitsu test drive. The salesperson refused to fill out the form. 2 days later talked to sales mgr. He too didn't seem to want to fill it in. I got as much assurance from him they will do it once I buy a car; if they refuse, I have the documentation of prices and financing the sales guy gave me; I'll document it all and send it in. After I give them a rough time and park my RX-8 in front of their dealership a few hours if they don't fill it out. They'll either want a ride in the car or want the car out of there ASAP (M-B and Toyota flank the Mitsu dealer-the M-B side had a Boxster and a 350Z sitting out front last Tuesday when I did my test drive. Anyway...... hoping those of us in the pre-order group get ours REAL soon!

Don't be such scheming whining bastards towards Mitsubishi!
They're doing this promotion to try to sell more of their cars, but they still don't OWE any of you anything. You guys are fixating on how to squeeze a measly $100 out of that company when you never had the single slightest intention of buying their car.
Give it a rest, it's pathetic.

Sorry, Jon, that ones mine! My VIN is 2079!
I know that they have another one on order to allow you a last minute color choice, but it won't be THAT one!
Mine, all mine......

Actually, yes they do OWE. It's their promotion, and I'm sure they can cancel it at any time. But if you follow their rules, and do as they say they owe you $100 dollars. It's giving them the chance to steal away business that they would usally never get a chance at. They know this going into the promo. It's a risk the Manufacture takes. The dealer ship only looses their time, which in most cases is being wasted while guys sit out front of the dealership talking about their weekend, or what they going to be doing.
If you act like your an undecided buyer but know what kind of car your looking for they will certianly take you up on this promo, But if you go storming in there saying, I know you can't convence me to buy your car, you should just sign on this form on the dotted line so I can get my $100. Then what motivation do they have? You have to give them a fair chance, even if you not going to buy that car. Hey their the one's Daring you to do it, and most people can't refuse a dare. $100 bucks isn't measly to most people. But it's a lot for college kids, young adults who are looking for a new car for the first time. Mitsu main market is aimed at that age group. Look at there commericals. Most young adults who are still easily persuaded. (This ends your class of Marketing 101) Class dismissed.....

Why is Mitsi offering the $100? To take peolple like us (perhaps yourself excluded) who feel absolutely no urge to even consider buying one of their cars - such as the Evo - and CHANGE OUR MINDS with their far superior cars. Now that it didn't work with these two guys, it's time for Mitsi to PAY THE PIPER, IT'S MITSI WHO PROVIDED THE OFFER, THEY JUST TOOK THEM UP TO IT, AND MITSI CAME OUT THE LOSER! IT'S JUST TOO BAD, BUT THEY LOST THIER OWN BET. I SURE DO HATE A RENEGGER!!!! JEEZ-O-MAN, TALK ABOUT PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess it's all about how you're brought up. I was taught NOT to make a bet unless you are able to lose it.
I could just kick myself for not doing the same cuz I already signed on the dotted line!
And DON'T come back with some crap about "yeah, but, they just did it for the $100". Darned right they did, and both players of this game knew it going in. It's a straight-up deal when both players go into it knowing. Why else is Mitsi offering the $100????
rx8daniel 07-13-2003, 09:06 AM It IS their promotion, I followed their rules. All they have to do is follow theirs. They act like they can change them. Sorry, it's not pathetic either. I gave the salesman a chance to show me all the features of his car, give me the test drive (it was nice for a piston FWD car, but it is NOT a sports car (Eclipse GSX I think - their best / sportiest version with the 210HP engine). We discussed the other cars I'm considering - RX-8 of course, WRX that I had tried to see at a Sub dealer a while back. I was considerate, not pushy. I just asked him at the end to fill out his part of the form. He said I'd have to bring it back after having my dealer fill their part if I bought a differnt mfgr's car. Like I said, I will. And they'll either drool over the RX-8 or want it out of there so their potential customers don't see a real sports car they may want instead of their sporty cars. BTW, I did call Mitsu's national #. They are unwilling to enforce their own contest rules on their dealers. That's as big of a negative for me to want to buy their car as is the comparison of the RX-8 to an Eclipse is.
while I was typing Racer RX-8 posted... thanks Racer!

They're doing this promotion to try to sell more of their cars, but they still don't OWE any of you anything.Sure they do. They ran a promotion offering $100 to anyone who drives one of their cars and then buys a competing vehicle within three weeks. Their radio ad even said "Go on, we dare you. We double-dare you! We hundred-dollar-dare you!"
Well, I took their dare. They lost. Now they get to pay up. This was a legitimate advertising campaign, with official rules and regulations available on their web site. We met all our obligations, now they get to meet theirs.
Their obvious intent is go get people into their dealerships. Not just any people, but people who are actively considering a new car and ready to buy within a few weeks. People who might not otherwise have visited their local Mitsubishi dealership. That's some hot leads right there, and Mistubishi figures those leads are worth a hundred bucks apiece. Not all of them lead to a successful sale, but that a risk they took and they can't renege on the offer.
BTW, if you haven't signed on the line for your RX-8 yet, you can still take the challenge - it runs until August 31 even if the radio ads are no longer running - click here (http://www.mitsubishichallenge.com) for an entry form. (Cynics can find a link to the official rules at the bottom of the page, too.)

While we're on this topic: I went into a Mitsu dealer here in VA and wanted to test drive a EVO. I wasn't looking for a hundred bucks, but I really was interested in the car and what all the hype was about. The dealer basically told me "we don't let people test drive this car, we work out an agreement for purchase and then you can drive it". Bullshit. If I work by their terms, it's not a test drive, it's a purchase. I will never buy an EVO for that reason alone. If you guys thought Mazda's customer service was bad, stop by the Mitsubishi dealer. Just plain stupid.

ibfubar2000 07-13-2003, 08:39 PM ok back on to this mits thing. you guys are forgeting that the dealer and mits are 2 different entitiy. it is the dealer not mits refusing to do the paperwork. you need to call mits corp tell them you might be interested but the dealer is giving you a hard time and refused to even fill out paperwork, so now you are thinking that mits is a horible company if they wont even do the paperwork for THEIR promotion. here is their phone number for mits cusotmer srvice CALL THEM!!! 1-800-222-0037 tell them you are very unhappy and the dealer made you feel like not buying a mits because of their attitude.
rxtreme 07-14-2003, 06:33 AM Fubar-
What you're saying is entirely right, but I would think auto manufacturers would have a greater say in what is done at the dealerships. This isn't the only Mitsu. dealer I've experienced or heard bad things about. I'm sure there are good one's out there, but I just don't know of any. I've found Toyota as a company to be pretty bad, as well. Now these are just my experiences and the experiences of my friends, but that can say alot by itself.
Racer X-8 07-14-2003, 06:46 AM Yep Fubar, you're right. I agree with that distinction and also your recommendations.
It's kind of automatic though to consider the two inseperable, to us customers anyway. That's why dealerships need to heed what they do, else they get their plug pulled. At least I hope that's the case. Sure, a case or two (or twenty, or two thousand?) like this should be just a slap on the wrist, but well documented @ Mitsi for when it comes time to yank them if they continue to discredit their daddy. No doubt, Fubar, you have a ton of things you can discuss that relates here (and I DON'T mean that as a slap in the face to you or your dealership...like Nixon said, "Let me make myself perfectly clear ")
edit: Sorry for stepping on your toes RXtreme. We posted together here. Funny how we pretty much said the same things though.

No kidding! Now we've got people getting their cars that ordered at least a month or two after me! And I guess mine still shows to be "in port" status? Jeez! They've had the car 2 1/2 weeks at the port and they couldn't get the friggin' port options installed during that time? They better be releasing them this afternoon!
