Ha! The so called 'pastel' shade is actually 'Winning Blue' so that ought to displease a few folks. ;)

Of course this is a woman's car!

It is us, the wives, who tricked the husbands into ordering the cars. We have said they were obsessed, spending too much time on the forum, etc., but we have been lurking, waiting anxiously for news. We nag -- but isn't that what we are supposed to do?

You don't really think we will let the men know that we are just as excited and obsessed as they are, do you? Can't do it. It just wouldn't be prudent!

Depends...I've known too many idiots that thought if it wasn't a muscle car/live axle, or a truck/suv than it is automatically for a woman.

Now the Viper...there's a womans car.;)

Mine's not, but I wouldn't dare try to keep my woman from driving it.

It is in our case. My wife will be buzzing around in the new car, and I'll be stuck with my old 96 Blazer. She's replacing her PT Cruiser with the RX-8.

Anyway, I can't tow a boat with the RX-8, so it's hers. However, I expect to be driving it on trips. Also, she hasn't driven a stick in a long time, so I'll pick it up and teach her to use her clutch foot again.

in all honesty, i dont think it is a woman's car, but that doesnt mean a woman cannot drive it. it just looks manly/mean/masculin, not very feminine, sure, there are feminine attributes (ie its delectabe curvaciousness) but its an instrument desgined to seduce a man, though many a woman may love the vehicle, i dont think they are its primary target

I agree with POOMan. The "Cuteness Factor" of the 8 is very low, and of course, it is not available in a convertible. It appeals to both genders I think. Let's hear some comment from women about your new car, guys. (sorry Elara, you can't participate)
:D

my social life needs a little jump start...so, in that sense...
here's to the 8 catching the eye of every woman on the road (and on the sidewalk) that i find attractive!
;)

seriously, i think the 8 is a hermaphrodite...having "parts" that appeal to both males and females. ;)

"strong enough for a man, but PH balanced for a woman."

...okay, i'm done. :D

Absolutely right, I have been watching from a distance. And yes, Lensman et al are right, I guess the image in Europe (the UK at least) is slightly different to that of the US - obviously so by looking at the reaction of some of you.

M477, Elara and Rotorgeek, I have managed to do what I set out and thats provoke a reaction.

As you may have missed from the signature, I have had one on pre-order since the first few weeks in the UK and have been a Mazda fan for many years, owning 3 previous cars for a total of 7 years of my 13 years driving life.

In addition to the very good thoughts and points raised by others here, the rear end of the non-modded car (particularly the US and Jap model without the lip spoiler) looks a bit like the Vauxhall/Opel/GM Tigra which was derided in the UK for being a hairdressers car. Looking at the pre-prod model in the blue colour (which I have seen in the flesh before any other backlash), from the rear, as it had the stance incorrect it had 16" alloys and was too high - it DID to me seem quite female in places, but still definitely male in others (the flared wheel arches). The mouth grille looks a bit too female to me until its covered up with a long european number plate. With a Jap (square plate) model then it looks like bugs bunny. Hermaphrodite? Good point, probably the best of the lot, hence why I am now finally replying to my bomb that I planted.

So those of you with whom I have provoked a peurile reaction, why is this? Taking the draw from M477 who has obviously been the most
Is it that
- I don't know what the hell I am talking about?
- making some bullshit comment?
- generally pissing people off?
- plain being an idiot?

Perhaps its that there may well be a bit of female in it, and that may offend those who don't want to see the car any other way.

Look at the Miata/5/Eunos THAT is the same. Male/female split ownership - in the UK at least. Indeed this is good as couples both enjoy the car equally - perhaps this is one of the reasons why it has sold so well, it appeals to both. Just perhaps the RX-8 is going to be the same and will be indeed a revelation to the car world, one which will be thought with the same fondness for years to come. I think that the 4 seats is one of these things that sell the car to both males and females. Again in the UK there are a number of us that have now got families that need 4 seats, but driving something sporty-looking with a decent level of performance is still a boon (clinging onto youth?) and the RX-8 satisfies these. Theres not many 4/5 door cars to compare against that actually provide this.

Can't help but agree -- the RX-8 is going to have a broad range of attractiveness to all sexes. Mazda has done their homework well.

So this raises the question, will your car be a he, a she, or a hermaphrodite?:o
