View Full Version : RX-8 Widow
LesPaul 07-11-2003, 12:00 PM My wife sat me down last night and did an "intervention". She said I was obsessed and needed to face my inner child. She pointed out that I have my hard cover gift book, my Car & Driver supplement and the dealer brochure propped up on the couch where I can see it. She says I play with my Radio Shack XMan RX-8 too much and that our cat is loosing its hair because of nerves (I can usually get the car to go between at least three paws, unless the cat is sitting). She says I spend too much time on the forum and doesn't like the picture of Quick_Lude. She asked me never to use the word "Wankel" in the house again. She wants me to take my dealer off my speed-dial.
Am I being unreasonable? What can I tell her to calm her down?
Well got to go. Our anniversary is comming up and I've got to find a place to order the 1/8 scale 8 model for her. Even though I ordered Brilliant Black, I know she wants red so I'll sacrafice and get her the red model. What a guy......
Lensman 07-11-2003, 12:08 PM Whilst I am distressed and disappointed by your wife's unreasonable attitude (and the lack of fighting spirit of your feline) I can only suggest that you bow to her demands and pursue another lifestyle for a change. I think what would convince your wife of the change in your nature is a pleasant holiday in an exotic location, say Hiroshima, taking in the local sights, sampling the culture, seeing how the locals work and play, perhaps visiting their work places be it only so humble as a factory of some kind. Your wife deserves this and it's up to you to fulfill her dreams!
LesPaul 07-11-2003, 12:15 PM THATS IT!! What a great idea. Actually, a helicopter trip out into the Pacific might work.
P.S. My cat's too old to run.
zoom44 07-11-2003, 12:42 PM i just emailed this whole thread to my wife. now i'm not so sure that was a good idea. well anyway i'm off to phone the dealer and see if he has financing info yet. had the wife call the credit union last night, while i was reading the RX-8 book and now i need to see what mazda is offering.
Quick_lude 07-11-2003, 12:45 PM Haha . .. let me just clarify that is NOT me in my avatar pic.. :D
LesPaul 07-11-2003, 12:47 PM Don't ruin the fantasy....
RX-Nut 07-11-2003, 12:52 PM So who is the Quick_Lude girl?? Hmm..
Quick_lude 07-11-2003, 01:10 PM haha
Her name is Erica Michelle Barre some porn pinup girl.. google her :D
RX-Nut 07-11-2003, 01:12 PM ooh yes.. I thought she looked familiar.. saw her splendor before .. hahahha
Quick_lude 07-11-2003, 01:17 PM Yes, I'm sure you have along with many others.. :D Her optional HID's are of special interest..
LesPaul 07-11-2003, 01:35 PM My little thread is really going into the tank here. Thought there would be more people with spouses or significant others that don't fully understand our passion (about the car, that is).
Quick_lude 07-11-2003, 01:36 PM Well it is the lounge so a thread warp is to expected.. especially with the ADD generation.. :D
Btw, why is the sky blue? :p
select 07-11-2003, 01:52 PM I feel your pain. My wife has come home from work everyday this week to find her husband on the same website. She always responds the same way "Is this the only site youe ever visit?". And I respond "No, just the first and the last site I visit when going online. Ok and maybe sometimes in between...." :D :D :D :D
LesPaul 07-11-2003, 01:52 PM Yes, the lounge. Anything goes, I suppose. Hijack, divert, sky questions. All's fair...
rxeightr 07-11-2003, 01:54 PM Well, since you brought it up.....
I have had to 'time' and limit what talks I initiate about the arrival of the RX-8. I know she thinks I'm obsessed - she just has not been as direct as your wife ----- yet.
Wait 'til I get my hands on it. That's when she really needs to start to worry.
Quick_lude 07-11-2003, 01:54 PM I wish I had a wife. Or not.. :D
"A wife is someone who'll stand by you through all the trouble you wouldn't have had if you'd stayed single"
I must join the club on this issue. My wife is bout ready to kick my butt out, or permanently disconnect my broadband connection (immediate grounds for divorce:D). Perhaps our wives should get together to form a support group "8 Widows."
Elara 07-11-2003, 02:24 PM I think my husband would like to join that group- he tells everyone that I tell about the car that I have a "problem." Once it gets here, we'll be fighting over it, but until then, he's about to muzzle me.
LesPaul 07-11-2003, 02:30 PM Cool! Now we need to also start an RX-8 widowers club too.
Actually, my wife has been pretty cool about all this. I suspect her tormenting of me is good natured. I'm sure she'd rather I be obsessed with the 8 instead of knowing the name of that porn person that Quick_lude uses as her/his? avatar.
rxtreme 07-11-2003, 03:14 PM LesPaul,
You and I are just alike. My wife is so sick of me talking about the RX-8 that she's ready to wreck the car before it's even here. She lurks on this forum, though, and will probably read this post. However, lately she has had greater interest in the 8 for unknown reasons. Support group is definitely necessary.
LesPaul 07-11-2003, 03:24 PM Mrs. RXTREME, if you are lurking and reading, let me say for the record that Mr. Rxtreme has had only the nicest things to say about you. You are indeed lucky to have such a fine gentleman and companion who is richly deserving of his much anticipated RX-8.

we've had this conversation before but it's still true. i am starting to think your husband and my wife are related because they use the same words, ones like "problem" and "obsessed". and then she turns around and asks when she can drive it;)
mystrx8 08-12-2003, 08:30 PM Actually, my wife ENCOURAGED me to get the car that I wanted. She started by telling me that since I had never owned a new car before, but had encouraged her when she got what she wanted ('99 Integra, later totalled in 7-car pileup in Arlington, TX), that she would not let me get her a new car until I got one first. BTW, this was a three-year argument. She was even the person who clued me in to this forum. I LOVE MY WIFE!:D
Racer X-8 08-12-2003, 11:29 PM Just don't forget the groundrules of marriage:
"What's mine is hers. And half of what's hers is mine." At least for the beginning. She'll work on the other half in time...:D

mikeb 08-13-2003, 01:00 AM I have same problem. I may need a rx8 12 step program
moogle 08-13-2003, 02:49 AM isn't she from a canadian naked talk. Nude Tv
Puppy1 08-13-2003, 10:54 AM I spoke with my EX the other night and had to thank her for insisting that "OUR NEW CAR" must be a 4 door big enough for 4 adults. It was because of her insistance I didn't buy an RSX Type-S 2 years ago.
Then I found this forum and fell in love all over again.
I guess wives do come in handy from time to time. Thank God I'm not tied down to one now! :D
WIFE!!!! Oh geez, I forgot all about her!! I think I saw her last night in our house but I really wasn't paying attention. I'll check tonight. Anyway, hey has anyone seen the really cool RX8 videos you can download, there are a bunch on the multimedia forum, and some really cool pictures, too!! BTW there are a total of 11 RX8's for sale here in town at our 4 Mazda dealers. I can give a run down of colors and options on all 11 if anyone is interested. I've been looking all over for a die-cast too. Let me know where I can get one, or two, or three. I'm also working on a photo album of all the RX8 pictures posted online, I'm cross referencing by geographic region, color, and time of delivery. We have a bunch of frames around our house, I figure I'll just put the RX8 pictures in front of those people who are already in them. Those people look familiar by the way, I think one may actually be that wife person, and those little people with her look familiar too. If I remember correctly they're around our house a lot too. I think they eat and sleep there. They sure are loud though!! It's really hard to concentrate on memorizing RX8 stats with all their racket. You know now that I think about it those people are really rude and inconsiderate!! Now I remember my wife, she's the one that was talking to me about signing some papers from her attorney? Whatever that non-sense was about. Anyway, only 84 days 'til my baby gets here!! I'm so excited, I'm going to take it and show it to all my friends. Wait I forgot where to find them. I need to check on that, too. Oh well, at least Mother will be excited for me.....Wonder if she ever got out of the hospital.........................
Lensman 08-13-2003, 12:50 PM LOL... CLASSIC!!! #2
8_wannabe 08-13-2003, 03:56 PM My wife is totally not into this car, or Mazda in general. When she finally understood I was gonna unload the minivan, her prescription for me was a nice, sensible Lexus or similar sedan. The more I drooled over the 8, it finally came down to an ultimatum: "You get that stupid car and I'm outta here."
Well, I'm an engineer and decided this was as good a time as any to "stress the system" as we say. The 8 is now comfortably in my driveway, and it's been awful quiet around the house lately. BTW, I finally figured out her motivation, namely that she is getting tired of the 323 which she totally, absolutey had to have like 2 years ago. I soon surmised the Lexus is for her and I was gonna inherit the 323. Not!! Sorry to say, that rattley old beemer is a real turnoff. Things worked out pretty good in the end. I got the 6MT and the wife doesn't drive stick. So I'm safe for a couple years.
BTW, there are a few gf threads in this forum. If da wife gives you too much hell about your obsession, you can "accidently" leave a few of these "trade-in" threads on the computer while you're out in the car. In general, they are pretty smart and should pick up on the hint. ;)
mikeb 08-15-2003, 12:25 AM That sucks dude! My girfriend just bought me the clear blinkers for my mica red 8. Is that hot or what!!!
cruzdreamer 08-15-2003, 10:25 AM I have my Road and Track magazine on the RX 8, a T-shirt, the brochure, the Car and Driver magazine with it, A board I have put 6 large pictures on it of the car, the Zoom Zoom Mazda quote on a picture frame......I am female and my husband thinks I am obsessed. He's absolutely right, I am. I talk to everyone about this car. I have one on order as of last week...sunlight silver, red black, GT. I think he got so sick of me he had to shut me up and get me one......all this worked!! Hee, Hee. He just told me not top pimp out the car! Oh...Ok I said! Thing is he loves the car now too....well likes it a lot!! I can relate widower!:D
