OK, now that my first poll is done I wanted to see what problems do RX8 owners "actually" have experience with. What (out of the list above) have you actually experienced. Select more than one if needed...and sorry if I did not list everything, I only get 10 choices.

I am happy to say None of the Above after 39000 miles

The only (minor) issue I've had is that my center console door seems to be slightly loose. Doesn't always fully latch. Hardly anything to complain about, though. :)

There's a fix to improve the ac by covering the lines under the hood with foil heat protection material sold at most auto parts stores.

car's been perfect mechanically, but I've noticed the A/C *is* weaker compared to my old Protege, had to use at least fan position 2 just to keep the car relatively cool when under the sun :p

and i shall look into this insulator mod for AC lines...

Bwaaaaaahahahahaha!!!!!

All you fellas who think your A/C cools just fine, how about you come down to Houston sometime in the next couple of months? My A/C was never a problem either.....when it wasn't hot outside.

LOL. :D

Sun visor split open. Otherwise no problems so far.

Speed-ER I'm in FL so we get those pretty 98/95 days or 101/90 days and my AC has been pretty good. It takes it a bit since it's SOOOOO HOT, but once it get's going I don't have a problem with the AC.

But for those with problems I'd try tigsters solution...I might do it myself just to make the AC work even better.

I've been thinking about taking a trip to Houston (cause frankly I've had thoughts about moving out of FL) to check it out so maybe one day I can test my AC up there where you live.

I checked four things, although I am pretty picky about keeping my car beautiful and working correctly. I also know that I bought the first year model of a brand new car with a brand new engine and that means there will be lots of minor details to work out.

Not listed above...CEL. My CEL stays on constantly. I have taken it to the dealership about 4 or 5 times for this to no avail (they turn it off, I drive away, and it comes right back on). I have been updated to the "M" flash and will be going in this week to have it further updated to the "N" flash to see if that helps.

Don't get me wrong, the 8's A/C is better than not having an A/C at all, but compared to many other cars it's weak as a kitten.

In the 8, I had to have the A/C on full blast in the summer, and if I came to a stoplight, it wasn't very cool. On the freeway, everything was fine (sort of like the acceleration...hahaha). In my Cobra, I can keep the A/C on the lowest setting.

If you ever make it to Houston, give me a shout. :)

I'll say the Gas usage. I'm not really complaining - I expect a car with this much horsepower to use gas. It's just that I used to have a 5 mile commute, and it never really warmed up so I figured that was it, and I used so little gas it didn't bother me. Now my commute is 50 miles (there and back) so I'm filling up twice a week. I'd still rather be commuting in the 8 than anything else though.

AC is fine while moving but is very poor while stopped.

In my Cobra, I can keep the A/C on the lowest setting.

I think I understand what you mean especially about the at a stop AC power. My AC is cool but people who love in hot places we need a COLD AC. It takes it a bit to cool down the car and I too have to keep it full blast after my 8 was in the sun all day so I'll have to kinda sorta agree.

It's not really a complaint for me but I think (after yesterday's drive) I understand what Speed-ER is saying and the rest of the 8 owners also.

I have to add oil cooler grills, waz job, AC mod, and painted clipers to my RX8 "to do" list.

If you ever make it to Houston, give me a shout.

I sure will!

Should have included a "No Problems" category as none of those problems are ones I've experienced. My car, at one year in and 12000 miles has nary an issue at all. Air blows cold, stereo is loud, started all winter and all summer, runs like a rocket ship, shifts cleanly and easily and the interior is as good as it could be considering I have three kids who play sports all the time.

- Brakes squeak (not as bad after TSB fix)
- Tab broke off center console door
- Parking brake handle boot tore off

there needs to be a "none of the above" option. Or else you KNOW someone is going to quote the results of this thread saying "well 50% of RX-8 Owners said they had electrical problems" without taking into account those people who have not had ANY of these. Closest I've had was the A/C cycling, and that was more of an annoyance, and not a problem. And was fixed with a recall.

The poll likely underestimates some of the problems. In reality, 100% of the 2004 models interiors were "easily scuffed," I'm certain. I don't know if they fixed that for 2005 or not.

I voted "Other". Haven't had any of those other issues (even my original A/C as it came with my very early-2003 build car is fine) but the car does have one very real problem:

It attracts rats, road debris, and moron drivers in pickup trucks.

I haven't had any of those problems. Austin isn't quite as hellish as Houston, but we've had 30 straight days of 90+ temps so far and my AC seems to work fine.

Interior easily scuffed - but it probably doesn't help to have a daughter who wears chain belts and pants with lots of zippers.

Squeaky brakes. Fixed, but still squeal first 5-6 times I use them when I start out driving. Previously, the squeal was constant.

I only picked the AC. I'd mark "easily scuffed" too, but to me it's more of a geometry issue than materials. It's just hard to get in and out without rubbing your feet on the front of the door.

Picked other, because I did not see a spot for "no problems"

Couple rattles that are hard as hell to track down is my only problem. Well, I suppose a constant desire to keep it clean could be considered an "issue", but I wouldn't label it a problem...

I put no problem, I have had a few minor issues but the are all fixed.

The biggest problem is I keep buying stuff for the car.

The only thing I have experienced is that my AC compressor has failed 3 times. I am on the 4th one and so far, so good. This one though is different than the others. It seems to need more RPM to cool the car well. Also, since my dealer visit, I have experienced a consistent 14mpg city instead of my regular 16mpg that I got for over a year of recording.
