Ok, how about August 6th? That should be PLENTY of time for people to get their wheels fixed, turboes installed, bodykits installed, and get time off from work :D

I will begin looking into Treasure Island, since that seems to be the place most people want to go. I've been in the bay my entire life and never been there, so sounds good to me. Once that is done, we could look into making this a pot luck sort of thing. How does that sound to everyone?

Personally I'm not in favor of a group drive because there tends to be one asshole who drives faster which tempts others to driver over their limits. Once it starts it's a vicious cycle. And if I were in a group drive, I'd probably be that asshole. :D Better to avoid temptation than resist it.

PurNrg,

For the group drives I've participated in I didn't feel like any of the 8 drivers were that 'ah'. The only time I thought anyone was completely nuts was when we went with the BMW guy, he was nuts!!! I do understand what you're saying but other than that one time I have not felt pressured or tempted to do anything illegal (cross double yellow lines) or drive any differently than I would if I were on that same road alone. The 8 guys seem to be pretty level headed. I'm also not going to wreck my car trying to keep up or drive like someone else and have no problem being the last car in line if that is where I feel like I can drive the way I want to drive. Maybe I don't feel pressured because I'm a female and don't feel the need to prove anything to anyone? I don't know, I guess I'm still getting used to the limits of the car as well and don't want to do anything to hurt my beautiful black beauty. :D I don't even want to do the Autox because I would hate to run over an orange cone and get it stuck under my car!!!

Yes, it would be nice if the mods could make this a sticky...hint hint. I guess I'm in charge, but I'm definitely open to help and suggestions. I've been to plenty of bbq's, but I've never been to Treasure Island. And with no knowledge of if you need to rent space, or bring your own bbq pit, its a little hard. I did do a few searches today, and it doesn't seem like you have to rent any space, but I'm really not sure. Anyone know about this? Maybe I'll take a drive over there in the next week or so if I have time, just to get familiar with the place. I'm hoping to plan it out as best as possible, so that we can get loads of people there, and have all types of different cars, not just 8s. I have a dream.... :)

Team Integra has their BBQ there annually for the NorCal and SoCal members. I went with Team Integra in 2003 for the first one and it was freaking awesome. Treasure Island has BBQ pits, I don't know if they are still there. I will take picture tomorrow so you can see how big it is, as well if I can find the pcitures back from 2003 I will post them so you guys can get an Idea of it.

I will get other info as well to see if we have to schedule with the Park Police or what ever that is on the island. I know last time SFPD rolled up on us a bunch of times to make sure we were behaving ourselves. They frown on burn out and such so don't do it. We had some guy in a 240SX last time come and do donuts in the parking lot and PD came and told us to knock it off or get kicked out.

Moostafa,

TheDosDog and I went down to TI this afternoon and scoped out 2 spots.

We think the Proposed Spot is plenty big for all rx-8's and any other car clubs that may want to join in. There's plenty of parking here and lots of grass to toss the frisbee/football around. The drawbacks: We will have to bring our own grills and blankets to sit and lay down on the grass.

The Secondary Spot does have grills and tables but only space for about 10 cars.

Take a look at the map for reference. Let's make a decision on where we want to meet and then make plans on what type of gear each person plans on bringing...

http://www.rx8club.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=53445

We also have pictures of the Proposed Spot to help in the decision making. I don't have my camera on me so I'll post those pics later.

I suggest we use the first post from Moostafa, to have a running list of who will be attending to get an idea of how many are coming. Additionally, a list of who is bring what kind of food and who is in charge of what. For example who will be there and who is organizing various events if any.

I think it would be a good idea if any shops will be willing to help and donate things. If we get enough items we could have a raffle of somekind.

Moostafa29
07-02-2005, 08:25 PM
I was thinking about that too Equis. A raffle would be cool if this thing gets big enough, and enough are interested. Another thing that I was thinking about is if this should be a dry event or not. In my mind beer and bbq go hand and hand, but there may be some members in attendance that aren't of age. And if we do have a drive later, it would be best that no one has anything in their systems, no matter what our individual tolerances are. What does everyone think?

I will update the first post later, and keep a running list of whos in.

Lori replied today. The BBQ/picnic areas are first come first serve if there aren't any events scheduled for the day. I asked about the 6th, nothing scheduled. She did make it a point to mention NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS !!! Just thought I would make sure everyone was aware of that little detail!!! LOL :D

Then silly me almost signed up for a motorcycle safety class today for that weekend!! DOH !!! Glad I didn't sign up, guess my motorcycle lessons can wait a couple of weekends!!!

It doesn't really matter to me. If we do the hayward thing does anyone want to go for a drive afterwards?

We should decide which we are doing fairly soon so people can make plans and if we need to sign up to bring stuff. Also I would like to make sure everyone knows which one we are doing so nobody shows up at the wrong place and is disappointed.

Is anyone down to go to the Hayward meet for an hour or two, then caravan to the T.I. meet?

Loaded8
07-22-2005, 12:03 PM
If we are going to try to do both the Hayward thing and the BBQ I would suggest going some place more convenient to Hayward for the picnic part. Only other thing is if everyone goes to the Hayward thing and eats the free food they may not want to BBQ. Whatever we're doing, lets try to decide this weekend so people can make plans, we can get a list etc.

Is someone going to bring a BBQ or are we trying to get a spot on TI with the BBQ pits (the smaller area, not the proposed site)? I do not have a BBQ that would fit in the car, nor would I like to get ashes in my baby!!

Moostafa29
07-22-2005, 01:15 PM
Thats another reason why I think we should just do the Hayward thing. Suppose we do choose the T.I. location. What if the bbq pits are already taken? We all drive the same car, and I know for a fact my car can't fit a decent sized bbq pit in it, nor would I try. Plus the pit would be hot and full of ashes, so I wouldn't put it in my car if I could. If someone wants to get there early and secure a pit, that would be all good, but like I said, I'll be going to the Hayward thing first. And so far, I've heard a lot of people say we should start thinking about food, but only me and two other people that I can remember have actually said what they're willing to bring.

Equis
07-22-2005, 07:52 PM
You can't go to the Hayward thing then TI, you either do one or the other. TI you need to be there early to set-up and as far as restrooms there are some there. You have to walk a ways bit to some building near the area.

I just say scrap the TI BBQ meet and everyone go to the Hayward thing, no one is really taking a spearhead attack for the TI BBQ if you are talking about doing both. Do you really think people want to drive an other 35+ miles from Hayward just to start BBQ like around 4pm when the day is almost over. Not to mention I highly doubt anyone is going to show up after going to the Hawayrd event. Lets just put a can on it and all go Hayward, like I am NOW. :) I mean after all this was supposed to be a RX-8 thing, but a Prostreet what ever it's called is also good.

If caravan together means caravaning to the Hayward site, I think it may be a good idea to go together so that we can park in the same row as there may be a lot of cars going. I think that the rx8's should stick together rather than park all over the place.

Sounds good. Although TI definitely has a better view than haward, hayward probably has better weather, and just happens to be 5 minutes from me. So I think.....(altough I may not be able to attend unfortunately) WE SHOULD GO TO HAYWARD. More cars + more food = HAYWARD. The caravaning(spelling) idea is great we could meet up @ southland mall or chabot college or any major area/landmark, and caravan to the meet. Sure would look good!
