Besides the loss of life for two people, the sad thing is, this was a Ferrari Owner's Club track day. These guys took the track out to go and have fun in relative safety, and... well..

link below has more info, waaay more than the rather sparse news article.

ferrarichat.com thread on this (http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61677&page=1&pp=20)

It's in the link above.. a Ferrari was released from the pits and crossed paths with the Carrera, which tried to avoid.. apparently flipped it and then went into the wall.

The Ferrari should've been held back till the Carrera was past.

from everything being reported, it sounds like a number of human actions caused it

The ferrari was waved through there was no way he could have seen the porsche in his blind spots. Alot of them are blaming the organizers for putting the starting spot in the 150mph trap zone.

I talked to Ben on the phone last year on behalf of my uncle about some car info. He was a great man, very knowledgeable and always eager to help. A sad day indeed.

Man reading that thread brings tears to my eyes and I don't even know the two of them, always sad to hear of something like this :(

Even though the GTs frame looks like it held up, the human body won't when almost instantly decelrating from those speeds (100mph some say 150mph?).

DITTO...death is so final. You never get a last chance to say your last good byes...I love you. I recently lost a family member and this really sucks, so hard to deal with. I don't know if you ever quite get over the loss.My prayers are with their families. :(

Looking at the damage it appears to be mostly a transverse impact. Also seeing the driver's side was in good shape I bet the driver died of a basilar skull fracture. A HANS device would have likely saved him. Wear a HANS device anytime you are on a track!

it's interesting you say that. I have a hans device (the economy model, 750 ish US) and went racing this weekend. I was one of 3 out of 36 cars at the track with one. Seriously, its more than worth 750 bucks. I can't help but feel it's a little foolish not to have one.

Why didn't the barriers have energy absorbing material? A $440K sports car pales in comparison to the lose of human life - this is truly a tragedy.
