my wife's best freind got a silver rx-8 after driving my silver. i knew she'd love it when she drove it. i took it as a compliment when she bought one. think of it as having converted someone to teh rotary way:)

who has problems..Me...or the kid that got the same car...
i told him that i thought it was weird as hell to get the same car and color as mine...

Like..i believe that a person's car reflects their personality....

Is this kid trying to be like me??

i don't know...i just don't see it as a compliment..i see it as this kid trying to take away other people's time to shine...

Like i remember i bought a drum kit about a year ago...and within a few months...this kid had a drum kit also...and now he plays better than me..LOL

Seems like constant competetion.....

You should swap cars with him (license plates too) when he's not looking so you have a brand new one.

maybe he really liked the car, and just happened to like the same color as you did. if i liked a car that a friend had, and decided to go buy it, i'd go with the color that i liked, regardless of the color of my friend's car, even if it ended up being the same.

cars are a lot of money, and there is no reason why he should get something that he's not going to be completely happy with.

Get a body kit, new wheels, etc etc.. then very very few people will be like you. For instance, you know how many people have the exact same car, same exact color, etc etc stock as you? Thousands I would expect... so if your friend got it, think of it as a compliment, and then just fix it up a bit... customize it yourself.

I don't really see a difference between a friend owning the same car as if I saw a stranger with the same car.

Get Rims at least, it will change the feel of the car.

i would be pretty mad too... an aquitance of mine actually did buy the same car as me a week after me... black 8 w/ appearance package, but it made me feel alot better when i saw that he had a black rx8 with red and black interior and an automatic :D

For people that are mad, try being mad when you go to a meet and about 5 other drivers have the same exact car as you with the same accessories. :P Are you going to avoid them when they have the same deal as you? Just fix up your car if having similar cars bother you, and that will resolve your problem.

I would take it as a compliment. Why do you care if he's trying to be like you? That's a good think, no? Kinda like a Mini-me. Please don't tell me that you are in highschool.

Didn't you buy the car because it drives great and looks good? So why are you trying to win popularity contest with this kid? If it really bugs you, get clear corners paint your calipers and get strakes ... so that yours looks somewhat different.

1. I wouldn't care. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

2. Spend less time worrying about this, and more time worrying about spelling, punctuation and grammar. It'll get you much farther in life. You may be a highly gifted and intelligent person, but your writing makes you look like an imbecile.

You asked, that's my opinion.

Yeah--I'd let it ride. Me and my roommate both had Millenia Ss in college--mine was a two-tone pearlwhite/sand and his was dark green--it was pretty cool actually. Another friend of mine has a dark green Millenia as well--it was pretty cool when we all rolled to a party or club--2 or 3 Millenias pull up to the spot in unison.

I'm in the "who cares" category...because frankly, who cares?

Take it this way, so it's NOT OK for him to buy the same car as you with the same options but it's OK for you to tell him what he should buy or not buy?

Is it your money? Is it your life? Will your “true” friends care about you less? Will those who love you for real change their opinion about you?

Trust me, don’t waste time on the petty stuff in life because it’s ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Don't get me wrong I'm not bashing you here, but I just don’t' understand the problem you have with this. I understand having something unique or being unique is a nice thing but why worry over things in life that you have NO CONTROL over?

By bringing it up and complaining about it, if this kid is trying to copy you, you just fueled his fire...

You know, there are probably a thousand versions of your car with the same options and color out there…one more is not going to change your ownership experience with the 8.

It might be a little strange, but is it really important? Is it OK for one friend to tell another (semi-friend) what car he should buy?

Maybe he just admires your taste? Maybe the poor fella does not have a sense of style or direction of his own.

I still say relax, you are worrying about something petty...

First, I'd take it as a compliment.

Second, if he is trying to compete with you why the HELL would he buy the SAME car as you. Not much competition, unless you're trying to get into some elite group of RX-8s and they only need one more member who has the same color car as you.

Third, this is petty and retarded.

I don't have anything to add that hasn't been said. You can either accept it or carry a resentment about it. I find that the latter generally does nothing for my sanity or my serenity. I really wanted titanium, but someone I knew had that color, so I chose silver. Of course, there's nothing to prevent anyone else I know from buying a silver 8 as well.

If this still bothers you (and there's nothing wrong with that--we are all entitled to our feelings), the best you can do is figure out a way to make your car look different from your friend's in ways besides color.

A lotta you guys think this is petty....And i agree it is..
but its also the principle of the matter...
I don't want to tell the kid what kinda car to buy.. I just think its a lil F'd up....

and yeah.. I already tried to talk to him...He was tellin' me in the beginning that he was going to get it in black...and then like a week later, there is a Red RX8 in his drive way....

I think its a bigger deal to me cause...i dislike the kid a little bit already...and then he pulls something like this which makes me dislike him a little bit more...LOL

I can understand how part of the fun of owning the RX-8 was being the only one in your crew with a cool car (or, at least, the coolest car).

But if you're going to making 110k in two years, then looks like you'll be able to afford a new one then, huh?

Math was just basic math..Calc and Stats...
Science wise...well i take pretty much most of the classes the Med Students take...
Basic Chem and Bio....orgo....Anatomy and Phys...Pharmocology...Med Chem....Pathology....infectious Diseases.....and then i have a lotta Drugs And Disease classes, these are more centered around teaching us what drug is used for what, and what kinda adverse reactions can occur......

Contrary to the comments, you shouldn't take it as a compliment; I'm not trying to compliment anyone/thing except the car.

I said I was going to get the best car I could find used for $23K, so I didn't have many options. I never said anything definite about color.

The car is in another state 9 months out of the year; don't take it personally.

i AM a very competative person but this has nothing to do with that. Same with the drums (which I've played for 4 years, I should mention) I love the car and red's what I found; thats all there is to it. I think if we had a more common car this wouldn't be an issue.

Will this make you 'dislike' me more, I'm interested.

Just had to settle that up....

I'm guilty, too!
Had my eye on the 8 ever since I saw a titanium whiz past my house one day. The lease on my Chevy was ending in a few months. I went to check out the eight. Test drove it, loved the blue. Had to wait for the lease to end, couldnt afford 2 payments.
A week later Im coming down the stairs where I teach and I see a blue 8 in the parking lot! Couldnt believe it! Now what do I do? The day comes to choose my 8; my wife and I wander the lot, in the rain...black? red? nordic? I kept going back to the blue."Get the goddam blue if you want it!" says my wife.
So, I dont think I upset my co-worker (who USED to post here) too much. I had my windows tinted, got the alum gas hatch; he got personal plates. So, they did look a bit different & we never parked near each other. Now, he's been moved to another building in our school district, so we dont see each other much at all. But, he was very cool about it and we had great talks about our cars when we were working together.
Now, if someone else shows up here with one, I think I'd get annoyed. But, yes, Im a petty person & I like to have something to complain about.

Jebus! You guys should be on your own soap opera, "As the Rotor Turns."

There are far more important things in life to worry than to get bent out of shape because someone else has the same car as you. Who cares? Is the world going to end for you? Did he run over your mom? Steal your ho? Hmmm? What are you going to do now, beat him up? Shoot him?
