Floor Mats

Just wondering if anyone's 8 came with the hook at the base of the seat for the floor mats to stay put? My driver's side mat keeps getting really shoved up in the footwell; it does have a hole for a hook but no hook at the base of my seat like my Miata and Protege did.

Your supposed to have one

I have the hook, still putting it back on all the time. I can imagine the rolled up carpet when shifting would drive you nuts without one. !

So where did my hooks go? It is only the driver's side right?

Yup, only drivers side has one. Mine came out withing the first week, I just had them put it back in at m yfirst service. I had to take out the mat, because as mentioned, it kept bunching up under the pedals.

Alot of people who i talk to say that their 8 did not come with the hook. It could just be that the dealer was lazy with their dealer prep. mine came with it thoe

When I purchased my 8 it did not come with the hook on the drivers side. It wasn't till I read a post on this forum that I realised I was suppose to have one. I mentioned it to the dealer and they gave me the hook to install myself. I tried however the seat the is in the way (even with the trim removed) so I ended up getting the dealer to install it.
And like everyone else has stated the floor mats in my car are all over the place.

Just an FYI I have a set of winter mats which work really well, I have actually considered just leaving them in.

My 8 didn't come with one. My dealer installed one at no charge. It popped out a few weeks later, so they fixed it. About two months later, it popped out again. This time they put in a bigger one, and it's held now.

The first few 100 sold did not have the hook. There was a "recall" put out on the mats at the time, this was back when the car originally came out. I had one of the first without the mats. I remember distinctly that new mats were shipped to dealers for all these cars and they came with the hook for the driver side.

I returned my car before they received the mats, simply call your dealer and you should get new mats as well as a hook.

I got some 1/2" thick personalised lloyd mats. The factory mats are pretty flimsy.

with the 04's the hook usually came in a package in the truck. Not many were installed by the dealer. I have mine in and I'm still having to put the mat back from time to time. Its better than without the hook but not a perfect solution.

I have the hook, and it has never come un-done once, and my mat never moves. I think if it does, i'd go crazy, and leave my winter mats in year round.

Rotoweeee (i think that's his handle) gave a number of us a plastic clip at an RX-8 meeting last summer that he made. It works great. He's registered to go to the dyno day on JUne 12. If any of you want a clip, send him a PM and I'm sure he'll bring some along if he has any left.

Rotoweee, thanks again.

I posted this once before, as the floor mat question comes up perioically. Damned if I can remember where I posted it, though...

For those of you who do not want your passenger mat balling up in a useless fashion, simply go to Fabricland and buy yourself a pack of brass extra large (24mm) eyelets, and install one on the passenger mat in the bottom inside corner. Go to the dealership and pick up an extra floor mat hook: it will install in the same manner as the drive's side one. I did this about a year and a half ago: works great, looks great, saves the mats. If anyone is interested, I can post pics...

I invested in the Canzoomer all weather mats. They stay put. No issues whatsoever. (And they look good too!)

I did the same thing 3 weeks ago, and i did have any problem with my passenger mat anymore. i got a hook from the dealer too and fix it at the same place than the driver's side. All that you you need is a short phillips screwdriver to unscrew the plastic screw and pop out the "kind of washer" ( sorry don't know the name) and i think you maybe have to unbend a little bit the hook to be sure it will fit there. Just try and see. It`s possible to unbend it with your hand, but this is hard a bit, depends how strong you are :D . I got my eyelet done at a shoe's repair store for 5 $. The eyelet is completly in the left corner, I was worry the mat would turn, but the mat never moved since.

Here are the pics... The eyelets and tool cost about 15 bucks, so I guess it might be cheaper to do like matt4419 and get the eyelet installed at a shoe repair shop... Anyway, don't forget that our passenger side is Japan's driver's side; this is why our original driver's side mats, for those who remember, came with the eyelet installed in the wrong place! (ie the mirror position to the passenger side, in the bottom inside corner )

I find it irritating that dealers are STILL not installing that bracket on the driver's side, and if you want to save your passenger side mat, it is essential to do as matt4419, 8thSin, and I have done, and install one on the passenger side as well.

Amen.. Yes, I agree, it's a great item. Keeps the mat from 'floating' off the peg. As a matter of fact, I forgot it was there when I was swapping my winter mats for the summer ones. Man it does hold it down! Didn't bust it, though.. Dumb me! :o

I think there was a dialogue about the 'where's the mat peg topic' sometime last summer. I do remember posting a pic of how to install the mat on it, or some such. Anyway, my peg was hiding in the rear console. Even the dealer hadn't a clue where it cached.
