View Full Version : *****RX Club of Ontario Dyno Day/Meet*****

RX Club of Ontario
05-30-2005, 11:42 PM
This is it! The new RX Club of Ontario’s first event!

We will be hosting a Dyno Day/Meet at Autobahn on Sunday, June 12, 2005, from 10am to 6pm.
This is not a tuning event, and there will be no wideband usage as it will slow things down too much. This is just for horsepower and torque printouts.

$40 buys each person 2 pulls. It is expected to go in 20 minute intervals - 20 minutes per person, 3 cars per hour. People can pick their spot (timewise) when they pay. This is a significantly reduced rate, as dyno use can normally run upwards of $100/hour. If you’ve always wondered what kind of power your car is putting down, now is your chance to find out without having to drain your wallet.

This is not a normal business day for the shop; Autobahn is opening just for us, which means we won't be competing with the general public to use the dyno.

To confirm a spot you can either PayPal Lawyer’s Spirit $41 ($1 to cover the PayPal charge) or pay him $40 in person (which can be arranged via Private Message on this forum.) You must include car type, first 3 characters of your license plate and your time preference. You will receive a confirmation PM.

This is first come, first serve. We will maintain a list of available slots in this thread. Autobahn has promised to service 24 cars and all others will be on a time permitting basis.

Spectators are welcome. This is not just a dyno meet, but also a chance to get together.

WHEN: Sunday, June 12th 10:00am – 6:00pm

WHERE: Autobahn Speed Tuning
181 Woodstream Blvd., Unit 4
Woodbridge, ON., L4L 8G9

DIRECTIONS: Major intersection in Hwy 7/Martingrove Rd.
Go to www.autobahnspeedtuning.ca for directions to the shop

HOW MUCH: $40 for two dyno pulls, first-come, first-serve

PayPal $41 -> charngill@osgoode.yorku.ca

Or send a Private Message to Lawyer’s Spirit to arrange payment drop off $40 cash

Well it is a great chance to get a baseline reading at a super rate so you can really gauge any modifications you perform in the future. Also it would be really interesting to see what kind of variations there are between stock 8s. But your welcome to hangout if that is what you prefer. :)

Yeah I know...I could be off about that. Too many weddings this year, so my calendar is all out of whack. I didn't even mention the two weddings on the same day...has everybody forsaken the Vegas wedding? :p

It's actually not that accurate to do a baseline run ..and use that as a base compared to mods in the future..... taking into account weather and things of that sort will throw all your future numbers out the door in most cases.

Nonetheless, should be alot of fun especially from thsoe guys who haven't seen dyno pulls before. Considering most of the 8's are stock, I wouldn't mind seeing the difference between stock RX8's.

I'll try to swing on by.............

We need more RX-8's on the Dyno, it will be really interesting to see where everyone sits in regards to HP based on the variances I've read on these forums. I have seen reports of 175HP, 179HP, 186HP, 192HP and even as high as 207HP Stock at the wheels.

Remember, this is not just a Dyno day, this is a meet as well so if you're not going to Dyno come on out anyways for the get together and also to check out the RX-7's, there should be more than our first RX Club meet at D&B!!

C'Mon Mic, I want to see what that Automatic is pumpin' out !!

The dyno proves zip. My son has a baseball tournament that weekend in Brampton so its tough to know when I can get a way for a bit. We'll see how it goes. If Neo goes on the dyno, then and only then will I go If there's an empty slot and I just so happen to be there at that time.

Since I'm an Alumni from there -- don't ask when -- we have winter with snow. You won't get great useage out of a motorcycle there. If you're living on or off campus, you'll be all right for groceries and going out. That is if you're going to St. George campus. All the bars and clubs are near by. Public transist is your friend there. A car would get you to a lot of place out of the downtown core, but in most cases you can probably get away with renting for a weekend with some friends or whatever. Oh, the women out number the men there, at least I think the stats is the same. it was like 60 to 40 in our favour. Good times :D.

Now back to the Dyno Day Meet....

Out of curiosity what is the recommended break in precedure from Mazda on the 8s?

Owner's manual says 600 miles. Which is weird, since we're all (FC thru FE) using the same 1.3L engine and look at item 10 on this page:

http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/rotary%20pages/breakin%20folder/breakin.html

2000 miles vs 600? I wonder what the explanation on that is?

RX Club of Ontario

Due to circumstances beyond our control the June 12th, 2005 RX Club Meet and Dyno Day will now be taking place at:

SPLITFIRE PERFOMANCE
220 Rutherford Rd. South
Unit #2
Brampton, ON
L6W 3J6
www.splitfireperformance.com

The original location, Autobahn Speed Tuning, has suffered a setback in that there 2 month old 'Mustang Dynometer' is broken. A combination of errors by Mustang Dynometer and UPS has resulted in the machine not being fixed in time for our Dyno Day. Enzo and Mark of Autobahn apologize for any inconvenience and have promised to make it up to the club in the future.

Thanks to a very resourceful and persuasive RX Club Committee we were able to secure the services of Splitfire Performance at ridiculously short notice. Paul Bhawan of Splitfire should be thanked by all members for stepping upto the plate and honouring our deal with Autobahn. If you don't already know Paul owns Canada's fastest import, a turbo charged Honda civic that blazes through the 1/4 mile in 8.66 sec @ 166 mph. We have to respect this piston head for giving our rotaries a chance to shine in his shop.

We apologize for any inconvenience that the location change may cause. We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday. Please help spread the word about the location change to anyone that may not see the thread.

This really sucks the big one...

I went to rutherford road ..... Just the wrong one . I spent about 1 hour looking for everyone. I thought it was the one in woodbridge/maple.

I waxed up the car and everything . It's too late to head to Rutherford road in Brampton now. I hope everyone had a good time .

Thanks for the kind words but it was really a collective effort by the RX Club of Ontario Committee. It was really great to feel like we actually have a functioning club,it has been long over due. Thanks to everyone that came out, your presence drives the committee to continue creating events and putting time into the club.

Also a big thanks to Paul @ Splitfire for taking really good care of us all day.

I can post eveyone's Dyno numbers if there are no objections. (To facilitate the trash talking of course)

Thanks to all ! who put the time in, organizing the Sunday Dyno. Setting up the back up shop as well. The cars were brought in and moved out quick and organized. Amur, thanks again on the assist with the camera. It did record two runs. Great job Lawyer on negoitiating the business side !

Now I have to figure out the low HP I ran. Going to run this by the Service guys at Avante. Possible ideas so far. 18,000 km on a 2005 6mt.
Air Filter
Plugs
Fuel I was running Sunoco 94 day of the dyno, however from unfamiliar station
Read out was stuttered not a clean line. It's not much, 10 hp down from the average the other 8's ran. I could almost sense a sheepish sad tone to the Black when it got home ;)

It was a blast hanging out with all the Seve7 and Eigh8 folks, I learn something new every time!

Cheers !

Rotorwheeee, you didn't notice anything, did you? Helas (the only red 8 to dyno) and I paid the "Dyno Guy" $20 bucks to unplug one rotor while he was hooking things up on Helas' car because we didn't want to draw too much attention from you guys and let out the truth that the reds have much more power than the rest. ;).

If the results/discussions/evidence of the "Dyno day" is the only imperical evidence we can go with, then I would have to conclude the following:

1) RX8's are faster than any other N/A rx in production history
2) If you want a greatest intake sound and a nice little hp boost with the smoothest power band, get the RB Intake (Hellbreed)
3) If you want a fucking crazy sounding intake and the most power for the money, get a typhoon (Dan)
4) RX8's are dreaming if they think they'll ever beat a 93-95 Blown RX7
5) Neo's and I are the only real poker players here and know when to hold our cards close to our chest
6) Amur's got the biggest heart and one of the nicest guys on this forum
7) LS is a born leader and my future legal counsel
8) 93-95 RX-7's are absolutely stunning and are timeless
9) The biggest chicken of us all was VelociRedBeast for not driving his 8 from Florida to show us up because he knows the Canadian 8's are faster than the US 8's (It was great to see ya man! Thanks for coming out)
10) Red RX8's rule

It was a great time indeed. Looking forward to the next meet.

Again LS, Amur and the rest of the crew. great job.

Dan, I read in a thread that once the RX8 hits 20-25K miles, mazda only then considers the engine to be fully broken in and then enables it to produce more power or allows it to use more of its full potential. I am not kidding. Some have noticed a change and some others have not. Just thought to share that info with you and perhaps we will see the same increase in HP when we get 30-40KM on our engines. It still won't make the silvers faster than the reds on the street, but hey, we'll all take any free HP that comes our way over time.

MrJynx
06-14-2005, 05:12 PM
dammit!!!! I should have showed up to this but didn't really read this post until now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And to top that off it was basically around the corner from my house!!! Like 5 min drive!!!! DAMIT

Also wouldn't the HP numbers be loosely based on how you drive? Doesn't the ECU modify the power to the engine?? I tend to use the full RPM band when I drive so I would have loved to see what my car got..

Shamblerock: I know what your referring to, basically they have to guarentee emissions to a certain point or something like that. once your past the 20kmiles i think it doesn't matter anymore.. I read it on here last year sometime

Great Turnout guys! It was a blast...

Dan - Nice numbers on the dyno! I believe that typhoon is actually doing something now :p . But, I also think your spirited driving has trained your CPU, SO, I am driving mine harder now...should have it trained for when we schedule another dyno meet (need to let the 7 guys make their adjustments, I'm sure many of them want revenge on that dyno).

Pete - Can't believe you missed it, should have still come out as there were still guys there until about 4:30pm then they headed over to Hooters. Next time!

The Committee: Great Job!

Everyone else, great to see yas!

For those that missed it, the white FC pulled a 383HP (386?), he was disapointed because he pulled a 410HP last year.

Sham, So what you mean to tell me is that when I put 20-25k km on my car then mazda will re-calibrate it to go faster? or will it just do it on it's own? If Mazda does it then perhaps I will go visite my friend Tom the service manager at Ontario Mazda and see if he can pull some strings and bump me up now. :p If the car does it on it's own, then AAHHH CRAP

I found that to be one of the most informative parts of the day, the number of stock or near stock RX8's that ran. I was off by about 10hp on the average 170.

Paul at Splitfire was nice enough to throw in a third run. To see why the 10hp less other stock 8's were getting.

First at 152hp a/c compressor on

Next two were at 162hp Torque was consistent at 130ft / lbs

I find the RX8 < mine > a strange beast. More so than any previous car I have owned, the advanced computer management seems extremely sensative to many factors.

Driving style / habits
Fuel octane and purity
engine temperature > not just cold versus warmed up / hot but actual long haul high temp

Although it would be hard to prove, I think a hot run, say 30 min to 45 min on the highway may have produced a better number than cold.
