View Full Version : 8 is the one?
lucke 07-09-2003, 02:54 PM this is just me trying to know why people pre-ordered (besides avoiding the dealer markup).
did you have any second thoughts on ordering it when you've never driven it, and some haven't seen it or sat in it? (maybe a few hadn't seen anything but pictures, i'm not sure).
for me its at 95% that i'm going to buy this car next year, the other 5% is going to be decided in the test drive.
Thanks.
ibfubar2000 07-09-2003, 03:03 PM well i preodred because i work in the dealer. didnt have to put anything down. we just ordered a rx8 to my specifications. if i want it when it gets here it is mine. if i do not then they will just sell it to someone who does. has not cost me anyhitng out of pocket. and if i do not want it it still wont cost anything. but if i do like it, then i am guarenteed to get one right away without having to wait with everything i want. so i had nothing to loose at all!
The Beav 07-09-2003, 03:04 PM i'm a little nervous about it, that's why i told the dealer that after the test drive i still have the option to back out and get my deposit back
Hercules 07-09-2003, 03:10 PM fubar, see if you can find out the residuals and lease rates for us... press the manager there to make some calls and figure it out, because I want a ballpark so I know what I'm working with.
I just got approved for one lease that runs me around $460 a month for 39 months, and 15k miles, so I might indulge if other deals are outrageous.
Chuck Clifford 07-09-2003, 03:25 PM I don't work at a dealership, and don't have a back out plan. I am also 100% sure that I am going to enjoy my 8. I have read reports in many magazines from guys whose job it is, is to very objectively tear up these new cars. They have driven and critiqued cars that I couldn't even afford a test drive. There is one underlying theme from all of these professional drivers/writers, this car is fun to drive, this car feels good to drive. Most of these professional car evaluaters, sound like giddy school girls after a first kiss when they are relaying their experience in the 8. I trust in their consolidated professional opinions that this is a great sports car, four door or two.
Quick_lude 07-09-2003, 03:59 PM Yeah I wouldn't be brave enough to get a first year model either.. But my lease is up in April 04 which should be enough time for me learn about the car and get some quality feedback.. and maybe Mazda Canada will get some more cars.. shakeshead.
That pic of the Mazdaspeed kit with the 19" RH really sealed the deal.. It looks awesome. :)

c170673 07-09-2003, 04:03 PM Likewise, I just wanted the RX-8 from the moment I first saw it.
When I saw the pricing £22,000 in the UK for the High Power version, it just made me want it even more.
With the reduction in power and the addtional wait, I still want the car just as much, if not more.
And Finally, having seen a pre-production version in the flesh two days ago my want has increased 100 fold.
All I can say is you lucky b*"%"^ds getting your cars from next week on, we still have nearly a 4 month wait..........

Let's see, you're a moderator and this post is totally off thread. What the heck? Make a new thread or dig up an old one, this has been discussed a bunch already, and nobody seems to have a good answer.
To keep this on thread, i'm pretty sure, but expect to get my deposit back after the test drive if I don't fit or hate the car. I like Mazda's spirit and like the uniqueness of the rotary.
seikx8 07-09-2003, 04:25 PM It's the feeling that decide without testing driving it. I bought my first car without even test drive. Same with the RX8 preorder without a doubt because the description, spec and picture matched my expectation and it's a rotary, a car like no other.
pelucidor 07-09-2003, 04:26 PM Why not pre-order. It costs me nothing ($1000 refundable deposit - so perhaps I lose about $10 in interest over 6 months) and I can custom build the car exactly the way I want it instead of the way the dealership guesses their average customer might want it. When I finally (one day, one day..) drive the demo car I will decide if the RX-8 is for me, else I will get my deposit back and buy something else - I have a backup car ordered with $500 refundable deposit that I have already test-driven. I don't trust anybody else's opinion on a car but my own as nobody else has quite the same combination of experience, expectations, environment (road quality, traffic etc) and driving (in)ability - not even my wife.
Personally I am surprised that were any unallocated cars - I thought everything would go through pre-order. I didn't expect to get any free gifts, so that was a nice surprise (book, mug, thermos).

She doesn't read the forum does she? ;)
pelucidor 07-09-2003, 04:44 PM I meant (back-peddling furiously) that she drives much better than I do so I need an 'easier' car to drive than she would...
Actually she is more excited about the RX-8 than any other car we have had before - she will even come with me for the test drive for once.

No avatar for you, Mr. Pottymouth! :D
khoney 07-09-2003, 06:06 PM Pre-ordering for me was a zero-risk option - they aren't even cashing my deposit check. I had already seen enough and read enough to know that I would love this car, and having driven my RX-7 for 17 years (and still loving it), I know that Mazda's 'fun-to-drive' philosophy will be exemplified by the RX-8.
Oh... and it looks bad-ass inside and out!

i agree also. though this is my first rx. i have been working at a mazda dealer for over 14 years. and of all the lines they carry mazda is my favorite, from what i have expereinced in cutomer support and loyalty, as well as well built cars. some people made a staement about a first year model having problems. i have no worries at all. i am very confident i am really going to enjoy the rx-8 WHENEVER i get it!!
Hercules 07-09-2003, 06:18 PM fubar, can you talk to the manager and see if we can get some lease rates, residuals etc out yet?
I'm sure he can dig them up.. the car is out in DAYS :)

great example mr moderator. cripes start or resurrect a thread and post to it every 20 minutes.
Spin9k 07-09-2003, 07:12 PM Well, lets see:
1. I loved my 1972 RX-2 so much, I've never forgot the zoom, zoom it had, put a grin on my face each and every 1st gear, 2nd gear rush!
2. I liked the original concept car, RX-8 is way more beautiful.
3. I'm so sick of all the SUVs clogging up the roads, and now that ALL the lemmings have them, I feel compelled to get the opposite.
4. It's a sports car I can take my friends in. Where else can I get that...except a sedan, or a psuedo-4 seater 2-door coup... but then who cares or even knows?
4. Mazda is one of only a few car companies that I think actually have engineers that GIVE A DAMN about building a TRUE PERFECTION oriented car; read a car with a SOUL. Read the book and you know this isn't a computer generated car using readily avaialable parts used to satisfy some bean counters whim. They deserve credit and MONEY to help them be successful in this world of SATURNs and TAURUSs, to name a few (NO OFFENSE INTENDED)
5. What else can you buy for ~$30K that embodies what the RX-8 does; simplicity, lightness, uniqueness in the WORLD, power and FUN!
6. I haven't bought a new car in 11 years, so what the hell, I can always sell it if it ends up a dog... yeah right! NOT!
7. It's only MONEY. Many people lost more than that in the last 3 years in the stock market. Why not enjoy it?
8. I think I'll look good in one! Don't you?

KKMmaniac 07-09-2003, 08:44 PM Spin9k has some great reasons! In my case, I've been waiting for the time I could afford a new Mazda rotary since the early 80's, and I was beginning to think the Wankel would be permanently shelved. Well, here's my big chance!
Sure I'm a little concerned about little possible teething problems, but I think Mazda has really done their homework on this car, and the Renesis, since the mid 90's, and I know they're thinking they couldn't afford a failure.
Besides, overall, it's such a cool concept, and has a little practicality. I'm betting it will be a good daily driver.
Of course, all the above depends on whether the car actually does indeed exist or not. (that SGI Alias is pretty powerful software)
