View Full Version : PS3 Killzone vid
CGRX8 05-24-2005, 11:32 AM Here is a look at the ps3 killzone game...
...all i can say is WOW
killzone (http://www.compfused.com/quicklinks/out.php?linkid=1724)
Rhawb 05-24-2005, 11:35 AM That game looks absolutely amazing. There's some debate as to whether or not it's prerendered, but if the final product looks anywhere near as good as that footage does, then I'll be one very happy camper.
It's kind of a shame that the PS3 is the only console that really blew me away at E3. I was expecting a total overload of games that would amaze me, but I was left with just the few that Sony showed off. :(
Oh yeah, and Zelda.
ÜberJumper 05-24-2005, 11:36 AM It's pre-rendered CGI apparently... so sad.
Rhawb 05-24-2005, 11:42 AM Is it? Last I heard both the developer and Sony were saying it was realtime, but that was around Friday, so things could have changed since then.
BTW: If this is a different video than they showed at E3, then I haven't seen it. I'm on campus right now, so I haven't actually watched this one yet.
abbid 05-24-2005, 11:44 AM Holy crap? i want one now!
Zofran 05-24-2005, 11:46 AM It's pre rendered. Don't expect any new games to take full advantage of what the ps3 is capable of for a year at least after launch.
moRotorMotor 05-24-2005, 12:20 PM ...Woah!
jaguargod 05-24-2005, 12:50 PM ps3land.com claims that the PS3 will be 2x as powerful as the XBox 360, and 15x as powerful as the Nintendo Revolution and 35x as powerful as the PS2. If that is true, how could MS and Nintendo hope to compete and how did Sony get such an upper hand on them?
zoom44 05-24-2005, 12:55 PM i havent paid much attention but i understand that the chip(s) at the heart of the new PS3 are the work of several big companies together.

So, the PS3 is 15 times more powerful than the hardware specs of a console that hasn't even been released yet. Yeah, that makes sense.
Stop reading fanboy websites and just wait for release. If they can deliver, more power to them. If not, then they just sound like assholes. The whole "my xxxxx is better than your xxxxx" argument is unfathomably stupid, especially on hardware that has yet to be released.

The "cell" chip system. It's supposed to be crazy, crazy multi-processing on a grand scale. It's odd that they didn't mention too much about the technology this year at E3. They only showed tech demos. I blame the cultural shift of gamers from nerds to people who aren't as smart as nerds. :p
vectorwolf 05-24-2005, 01:56 PM More, please. Thank you.
Minda 05-24-2005, 02:09 PM Ummmm thats all pre-rendered.
Sony said that video is the "projected" way of how it will look. Just Like I project myself I will be a millionaire in 2 years.
Sony = HYPE.
and Sony may have more powerful processing system but Xbox 360's GPU is more powerful than PS3's which matters more in graphics.
Don't believe me?
go on to ign.com and they have XBOX 360 and PS3 comparison of every aspect.
Luftwaffle 05-24-2005, 02:25 PM More "powerful" hardware is still subjective. Stats mean nothing at this stage since there are so many different things to calculate. MHz is no longer a finite definition of performance. Look at AMD and Intel, AMD chips with less MHz are faster than Intel chips 1GHz faster.
In the end, it is the ability to make use of the tools given to the developers that will dictate graphics. The hardware can only set the limits, the devs are in charge of making the game.
crimson-rain 05-24-2005, 02:38 PM The Kill Zone vid may be a movie, but has high possibility at being realtime. I know a lot of people hate Sony and say this or that, but their new system IS powerful. Microsoft sent a letter to IGN to deflate the hype behind PS3. Kind of silly to say XBox360 is way more powerful than PS3 when nobody has even played their hand. Both can run the most advanced 3D game engine in existance currently, the Unreal engine 3, flawlessly. I mean come on folks there is nothing in existance to push them. MS (Microsoft folks) is just trying to deflate Sony's monster's hype. Sony is VERY good at coming up with cutting edge technology and MS is good at promoting and ... "business".
The Killzone footage is very attainable. If you've seen the Unreal engine 3, then you'll see that it is possible. Programming tricks like having stuff in the background prescripted, far off objects using less polygons and lower texture resolutions, etc., etc., makes things like that possible. Heck, look at GT4. A lot of people said that's not possible on the PS2, but it exists. Heck, the cars in GT4 look better than any car modeled on XBox and XBox is a way more powerful system. It's all in the technique and how you use what you got.
Face it folks, a lot of people hate Sony. They say Sony has bad business practices and what not. But all their systems rock and have always been innovative (backawards compat., PSP, DVD player right out the box, Blueray, etc.).
My profession is programming and while people say Sony is dirty, then they don't know Microsoft AT ALL!!!! THEY are the dirtiest players in the game. I know. I'm in the industry. Though this is my opinion, I will have both systems. 360 is no slouch either. Already preordered it!
Rhawb 05-24-2005, 02:39 PM I agree that it's useless to compare specs at this point (well, at all, really). However, at this point there are relatively few examples of realtime gameplay on any of the systems. People still feel the need to predict how well the systems are going to do, so they turn to the specs, however useless that may be. Just because the 360s GPU numbers are much better, it doesn't mean it's going to necessarily be faster. Performance may be bottlenecked elsewhere. I'm pretty sure a 2GHZ computer with 256 megs of ram and a Geforce 6800 is still going to produce crappier results than a 3.2GHZ computer with 512 megs of ram and a Radeon 9800.
Point is, people are going to compare these things no matter what since it's really all they have to go on. It doesn't really mean anything and preceptions will surely change as the systems are released, but for now, it's the debate we get to hear.
Discman2 05-24-2005, 02:41 PM PRE RENDERED
Battousai 05-24-2005, 02:46 PM Yes that Killzone video looked awesome, but there was yet another Gem:
Darksector, and that is supposed to be done with the game engine.
grab the 128Mb video off their site and read the IGN review a little lower down:
www.darksector.com
abbid 05-24-2005, 02:51 PM From what im hearing from my manager, he actually claims to have seen a video on tech TV where the man was controlling the character. Now i dont know if thats BS or not, but if thats real time, thats amazing!
Rhawb 05-24-2005, 02:53 PM Wrong game. That was UT2007.
pritch 05-24-2005, 11:27 PM maybe the new ps3 could flash our comp in the rx8
