what tires, and where to buy?
what tires, and where to buy?
ok, so my potenzas are due for retirement, and i've been thinking of getting toyo ts-1s im a tire noob so forgive me if thats not actually what they are really called.
buuut..... everywhere i look i cant find them in the stock 225/45-18 size. i think the closest i can get is 225/40-18. will those fit my stock wheels? what exactly does the 40/45 mean anyhow? and if there are any tires taht would be better recommended than the toyos, lemme know what they are and where to buy them. at the moment my budget is kind of tight so im not looking to spend a fortune on tires, but i want something pretty good, and not the potenzas any more.
i would also like to upgrade my wheels, and like i said my budget is tight, but if anyone knows of a place where i could get a good wheel tire combo for a reasonable rate. i know that tires and wheels are no cheap buisness, but i dont necessarily like the idea of buying new tires for wheels i dont really want to keep that long.
anyhow, im a tire and wheel noob, so if anyone could point me in any direction, i'd be very happy. sorry for the long post, but im curious and the time to buy new wheels and tires is now i believe.

FYI, the Toyo T1S is about to be retired. They will be replacing it with the T1R in the next 1-2 quarters. The T1S is still a very good tire (have them on my car), but it is being replaced. If you are looking for maximum traction, take a look at the Falken Azenis ST-615. Also the Kumho MX is an excellent buy. Though it is not as long wearing as some of the other tires, it's traction is better. If you don't push your car too hard, and don't really want to worry about sending away for tires, & getting them installed you may want to look at going to Costco & getting the BF Goodrich Comp TA KDW2's on your car. Very nice 3 season tire (even though you are in AZ) with very good traction & good treadwear rating, & relitively hassle free as Costco has free mounting, balancing, etc.
You also might want to look at the 245/40/18 tire. More selection & fits just as well on our stock tire (or any other 8'/8.5" rim you might get later). The 225/45/18 is kind've an oddball size tire so that is why you might be having some trouble finding them.
The 40/45 is the height aspect of the tire. When you look at the tire the part from the rim going out to the edge of the tire is the 40/45 aspect. If you get a 225/40 the tire will appear slightly smaller, & you might have some more wheel gap (space between wheel & your fender). I would recommend the 245/40/18.
For places I would check out www.tirerack.com, I got my tires at www.edgeracing.com, & and also we have a vendor on this site (Auto Wheel Haus) that sells nice Volks.

very good reply, thanks fanman.
so basically the 40/45 rating is the profile of the tire, the smaller the number the lower profile.
ill definitely check into costco. i never thought about them.
thanks again, and if anyone else has more input, id greatly appreciate it.
