View Full Version : Cars are arriving NOW!
pelucidor 07-07-2003, 01:56 PM Just saw this in the SE forum:
http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6166
Marietta Mazda in Georgia just got two pre-order cars delivered.
pelucidor 07-07-2003, 02:31 PM Over 100 views in 30 minutes and no comments?
Elara 07-07-2003, 02:34 PM Everyone's too busy pouting and being jealous of whoever's those are, I guess. At least, that's currently my problem.
:D
I just got a call from my dealer saying there was a truckload of RX-8s due in today.
RX-Nut 07-07-2003, 02:37 PM They're mine! All mine.. just wired Marietta funds for their entire allocation.
I'll be putting them on eBay tonight.. HAHAHAHAHA
RotorBoy 07-07-2003, 02:47 PM Well.. I am personally waiting for some confirmation of this. Soon all of the Atlanta folks will be getting off work... and HOPEFULLY someone will go by Jim Ellis to take some photos!!
pelucidor 07-07-2003, 03:02 PM The GM of my dealership in Houston is checking with other dealers near Midlothian port now and also with Mazda themselves to see if shipments are on their way (he was not expecting anything today). I will let you know as soon as he calls me back.
rooster 07-07-2003, 03:03 PM It's hard to get too excited, when so far all I'm hearing is Texas and New Jersey seeing the cars. :(
Anyone in California seeing any cars???? Any please don't include those at the Port...... :p
Toadman 07-07-2003, 03:43 PM This is exciting! Someone's gonna find the golden ticket today I feel. It better be a current forum member and not some 1st-post person thumbing their nose at the pre-order people here.
:D
Boozehound 07-07-2003, 03:50 PM I dont think I'll be jumping up and down until my sales jerk calls me with good news - and then there's waiting a week until I can get to Austin to pick it up.
a friend of mine just saw an RX-8 on the road today in downtown Chicago, Illinois...he said the license plate was a regular Illinois plate with no distinguishable markings on it...it was red...
i think they're out now...mine's is supposedly coming in August so i'm not gonna care until then...

RX8-U-UP 07-07-2003, 04:51 PM I called the Mazca dealership in Marietta to verify the 8's were there. I spoke with a salesman and he said 2 RX8's arrived this morning, but they are both demos, they are not presales. He was expecting those at any time. His dealership is the largest in Atlanta, and they are due to receive 40 RX8's total. The cars received today will be available for viewing. He said this proves that the boats have arrived, the cars have been released from the ports, and they should be arriving any moment now! The dealership was Jim Ellis, and the phone number is 770-590-4450. You can also get the phone number for this dealership at the MazdaUSA website.

pelucidor 07-07-2003, 05:56 PM I just spoke to the Sales Manager at my dealership. Trucks are delivering today and tomorrow around Texas. He doesn't think he will be receiving anything today (already after 5pm) so it will almost certainly be tomorrow.
BTW he got a chance to drive the 15k mile test car last week when they went through Houston and thought it was phenomenal - amazing steering, engine sound was quiet at low revs and great when you hammer it. I asked about interior quality (plastics etc) and he said it was pretty good like the Mazda 6 (no comment on leather as it was a cloth interior). He thought the NAV was excellent with voice announcements and over two million points of interest (restaurants, gas stations, ATMS, train stations, airports, hospitals etc).
Also NO INFO YET ON LEASE TERMS (residuals and money factor) - might not have that for a few more days. My car arrives in two weeks (2nd allocation) so hopefully leasing will be sorted out by then. Very unlikley to have a low money factor (e.g. when the Tribute SUV first came out the rate was effectively 10% for leases - divide by 24 to get money factor).
And POOMan - take a deep breath, it's just a car ;). Sounds like you'd have a heart attack if you were expecting a baby. Go and watch a movie or something, T3 was quite good...

lefuton 07-07-2003, 06:10 PM i think they're just inserted in the lil pictures then shrunk down...hard to tell a photochop really when it's shrunk down to like 32x32 =p
khoney 07-07-2003, 06:12 PM Just stopped in at my dealer this afternoon. They are expecting a dealer allocation unit tomorrow, and weren't sure if my car would be on the same truck. They verified that mine was at Port Midlothian, so I'm hoping to get it later this week. I'm assuming it will need emissions checks etc. done there before they ship. Here's hoping I get lucky, and see it tomorrow (I have no port-installed options)!
On a sadder note, no coffee mug/thermos today :(

pelucidor 07-07-2003, 06:45 PM The scale is completely off - the car is only 4'4" tall so she would be about 4'6" in the first pic. Make her a foot taller...

CERAMICSEAL 07-07-2003, 08:35 PM The cars that were at Jim Ellis Mazda (formerly the sales volume leader in the US) were indeed destined for the Mazda training center.
Jim Downing (The most successful Mazda racer in history) and his famous engine builder Rick Engman were invited by instructor Mike Harris to come check them out.
They drove the silver auto in the parking lot possibly getting to aggressive speeds of 15 to 20 mph.
I'm just mad I wasn't included on this excursion. Not really! We'll all get to see, smell touch and drive these beauties very soon.
B.T.W. Rick says it was very smooth, quiet, and that the throttle was responsive.

i'm 26 and i'm still a kid...
anyways, i called my dealer and they recited, "we're expecting the brand new Mazda RX-8 in approximately 3-4 weeks from now." I then told them there have been X-8 sightings downtown, and they said "we're expecting the brand new Mazda RX-8 in approximately 3-4 weeks from now."
then i told her to put me on the Do Not Call List...

would you guys say thats the right smily? or do you think the question headed one is more effective at protraying idea/statement/feeling/tone or generally more appropriate for the preceeding statement?

What dealer did u guys order from in Houston? I called Jeff Haas and Joe Myers...Any good ideas? I was gonna preorder my car but I couldnt decide on the color plus I wanted to test drive it before I put anything down...
Boozehound 07-08-2003, 09:35 AM I called Joe Meyers and they wanted between 3-4K over MSRP, so I told them to go fly a kite. Jeff Haas is pretty good from what I 've heard, but they wanted $300 to put a "paint protector" on the car, and there were no exceptions. I took that to mean they were charging 300 over MSRP. The people I talked to there were nice, and they probably would've been good if I could stomach the $300 stupid tax, but I kept looking.
I eventually found what I wanted from Gillman out in Rosenberg, but it was the 3rd allocation and the sales guy wasn't really all that interested in helping me, so when I shopped around in Austin, I found the car I wanted in the first pre-order group (I was ordering in March) with the equipment I wanted - and my sales guy seemed enthusiastic at the time. So I ordered from Roger Beasley North in Austin.
Long story short, get out the phone book and call all the dealers you're willing to drive to - for me it was Austin, Houston, and San Antonio, and find someone willing to work with you to get the best deal you can.

Boozer, congrats on not caving in to their strong arm tactics. Dealer markup above MSRP is so repulsive. Sounds like you got what you wanted at the price you wanted by shopping around. If everyone did that maybe these markups would just fade away...
pelucidor 07-08-2003, 09:56 AM I am using Jeff Haas and they are vastly better than two other dealerships I checked out in Houston. Talk to Justin Flanagan (Sales Manager), he's more excited about the RX-8 than most of us here and has even driven one briefly. Tell him Amit sent you. Also I think you can avoid the $300 paint protection with a bit of effort once you show you are a serious buyer...
Boozehound 07-08-2003, 10:08 AM If you HAVE to show you're a serious buyer to get the $300 knocked off, then you end up losing potential customers (that's me - oops, lost a fully loaded GT sale there...).
There's a pretty fat margin on this car compared to the rest of the automotive market right now, so there's no reason for jacking the price up even more.

No kidding. Considering most makes are discounting thousands off MSRP or offering zero interest, Mazda is doing just fine at MSRP. Dealers are losing a golden opportunity to build some brand loyalty by jacking up the price. It's a very shortsighted scheme. Seems like they're working counter to Mazda who is at least trying to build loyalty with the personal touch like gift packages, email updates, etc. Even if it's not going flawlessly, at least they make the effort. I've rarely seen that from a corporation.

I just performed a look thru of mazda's inventory in houston and I couldnt find the car that i wanted....all I got where hybrids of what i really wanted....
Looking for a Titanium Grey Touring 8 with cloth seats....how hard is that? The closest one I found was at Roger Beasley in Austin, but the VIN had an "X" in it (ie JM1FE173X********). Do any of you know what the X means? Does it have to do with the delivery time?
I might have to settle for black....:(
rx8daniel 07-08-2003, 11:36 AM "X" is a valid check-digit value.

what exactly does that mean??
rx8daniel 07-08-2003, 12:20 PM The ninth position of the VIN, after the "173", is a 'check-digit' - it is based on an algorithm assigning a value to all of the other positions to come up with that value. It has nothing to do with the car, color, options, transmission, region, etc. There are a few different VIN threads with links to sites that can explain it in exact detail. If you can't find one, do an Internet search on "The VIN system" and "The check digit".

TybeeRX-8 07-08-2003, 01:12 PM Hmmm. I got to wonder about all of this since I talked to Mazda today and they said the cars are still being held for quality checks, and that some arrived without Owner's manuals, and the like (a jack? does the car get a jack if you don't order the spare tire kit?) Added to that, we still have the two cars being driven cross country (it is reported that they are doing very well), but delivery won't be held for the completion of the trip. But, mine still isn't here yet!!!
RotorBoy 07-08-2003, 01:14 PM Tybee.. I just called the dealership myself. You did call them and not MNAO right? I didn't see that you had called but they told me the following...
He (salesman) said that I SHOULD get the car this week. It is still at port but the rumor is that they might already be loaded on the trucks. He explained that the reason they were held at port was to run diagnostic test on them to verify gas mileage on the window sticker and emissions information etc. was correct.
Take it with a grain of salt. I hope he is right but it seems like EVERYONE is working based on rumors right now.

Nope! I called MNAO and that's what I was told...quality checks, missing owner's manuals, etc. So, Shawn may be somewhat correct. I suppose they could be delivered this week, some of them at least.
the owner's manual is interesting. i've been harrassing mazda's web site because they have the manuals on line, just not for the 8. funny that a problem i've been pushing has actually come back to haunt them. my suggestion was that 1) it should be on the site to give us all something to read and 2) it should have been sent to us early to give us all something to read. probably would have delayed all the angst at least a week.;)
pelucidor 07-08-2003, 04:24 PM Looks like I jumped the gun with this thread. Those few dealerships that definitely have RX-8s (e.g. Jim Ellis in Georgia) are using them for training purposes for their techs, not for sale to customers.
My dealer did not get any cars again today (I brought my Nikon Coolpix 990 to work to take pics this evening) - perhaps tomorrow. Definitely sometime this month. Maybe.
javahut 07-08-2003, 05:20 PM .. definitely maybe, sometime...
