View Full Version : any hockey fans?? ibfubar2000 07-04-2003, 12:25 AM did you hear the news. both kariya and selanne are going to colorado!!! fishsauce 07-04-2003, 12:36 AM big hockey fan here from san jose. I guess when Roy left Colorado had nothing to do with the extra money. It also answers the question why selanne didnt score in the 7th game of the sharks avalanche 2002 playoff series when he had an open net, and the sharks lost 1 - 0. Selanne was just lookin for numero uno. :p As for Kariya...I'm happy he's out of Anahiem, even if it makes Colorado even more dominant. He's been stuck there his whole career; now he doesnt have to carry the burden of being the team's best player RX-8 Zoomster 07-04-2003, 02:19 AM I heard the news. Another case of the the rich get richer. I hate when a team tries to buy a championship. That's one reason why I dislike teams like the Red Wings and the Rangers. The "Yankees" of Hockey. I was pretty happy to see Detroit bow out in the first round. The Rangers are another sorry ass team. They have either the 1st or 2nd highest payroll, and still can't get in the playoffs. Some pretty sorry management in that organization. I don't dislike Colorado (there one of favs), but they seem to be doing the same thing - buying a championship. It should be pretty exiting to watch Kariya and Selanne teamed up again. You know they are going to be on the same line. Colorado will be the team to beat (if they get a goalie), along with the Devils again. I'm a Penguins fan. We used to have a team with great players. Couldn't afford them. It's almost impossible for small market teams to compete. Especially in Pittsburgh where they can't get a new revenue "friendly" areana built to replace the oldest arena in the league. And when they are under a salary cap because of the bankrupcy restructuring. I like to see a salary cap system in the NHL and Baseball like in the NFL. A salary cap makes every team more balanced which in turn would give us a more competitive sport to watch. Although this past year the NHL was pretty competitive. It was exciting to see the Mighty Ducks in the finals other than Detroit or Colorado. Rich 07-04-2003, 06:26 PM This isn't the case of a team trying to buy a championship. Colorado wasn't looking at signing any free agents (they never do, preferring to make trades and develop their talent in their system instead), but Kariya and Selanne made the Avs an offer they couldn't refuse. It's possible that these could be the two best lines in all of hockey next year. Forsber/Hejduk/Tanguay were the best line in hockey the second half of last year with Forsberg and Hejduk sharing the +/- award, IIRC. I wouldn't put a Kariya/Sakic/Selanne line all that far behind them. Kariya and Selanne were awesome when they had mediocre guys centering them. Should be fun to watch! ibfubar2000 07-04-2003, 06:38 PM should be great to watch them together again. i bet anaheim gets lots of hate mail from fans. i know they were all mad when selanne left. i can just imagine now that kariya is gone. they are probably bombarded with phne calls and email! 73JPS 07-04-2003, 10:34 PM WooHOO! American hockey fans! Cool... ;) akrx8 07-04-2003, 10:34 PM cool to see some hockey fans on this site,rx8+HOCKEY=goodtaste.im a coach for my sons peewee comp team and hes a giant roy fan[of course hes a goalie also]and were going to see the cup in mid july when scotty gomez brings it to anchorage.its a big party cause we only have a wchl pro team here, hard to beleave alaska has no nhl team.by the way i think that spot between the seats of the 8 will be perfect for a few sticks. :D akrx8 07-04-2003, 10:42 PM one last thing, anyone here the rumor that hasek will come out of retirement?wow just think if the avs beat out the wings offer on him, colorado would be unstopable.imo RX-8 Zoomster 07-04-2003, 11:39 PM Originally posted by akrx8 one last thing, anyone here the rumor that hasek will come out of retirement?wow just think if the avs beat out the wings offer on him, colorado would be unstopable.imo I heard that rumor too, but I hope he don't go back to Detroit. Which he'll probably do. Yeah, it would be a crime to the rest of the league if Colorado picked him up too. :D I would like to see that though just to rub salt in the Red Wings. Very bitter rivalry. Now with Selanne and Kariya signed on, that will free up some other players for trade bait. I see them trying to go out to trade for and sign one of the younger top goalies in the league. Looking long term. Although short term, Hazek would be ideal for a cup run this upcoming year. Regarding Hazek, I can see someone retiring when they are over-the-hill and can't contribute anymore. He has a lot left in him. That was my opinion when he decided to hang up his skates. Whoever he returns to, he will be a big contributor. IMO, he still would be one of the top 5 goalies in the league if he returns. Yeah, if I was a Duck fan, I would be pretty pissed. They have nothing to be ashamed of though, they made it to the finals. Maybe they can see how Penguins fans felt when they couldn't keep Nedved, Barnaby, Jagr, Kasparaitis, Lang, Hatcher, Kovalev, etc. Talking about icing an all-star team. And now they are talking about unable to keep Straka because of $$$. Will my pain ever end. :( Only reason Lemieux is staying is because he OWNS the damn team. In defense of Anaheim, they're trying to have their money better spent. Kariya didn't contribute that much to scoring this past season. His abilities are on the way down. They'll miss his leadership, but they'll be OK. Anaheim has built a pretty good young team. Especially at goal. I think they are being smart with their money, and can get better. IMO, they'll be alright, but it will be hard to have as good a "Cinderella" season as they had this past year. They're not considered pushovers anymore. Not that they can't repeat what they did, but there'll be a lot of teams "gunning" for them, especially the Red Wings, Stars and the Avs. Ouch, what a rough road. akrx8 07-05-2003, 12:59 AM zoomester, you really dont like the wings do ya:D thats cool.when the finals came i had to go for the ducks cause they played so awsome and jiggy was soooo impressive in the net.i did have mixed feelings cause scotty gomez is from here and came thru the same league as i coach now and in the off season has skated with our kids and is such a nice guy.atleast now we can see the cup come back to ak.the devils our on such a role i bet the will be hard to beat again. The Rangers and Red Wings are definately not in my favor. Hey, if I lived in Detroit or born or raised there, I certainly would feel differently. They certainly have a proud tradition, and are definately a good team. I'm sure their fans are wild with pride and passion. The same goes with the fans of the rest of the 28+ teams in the NHL. I was born and raised (19 years) in W. PA. I grew up loving my "home" teams. I have my "enemies" - bitter rivals to the Penguins. Namely, the Islanders, Capitals, Rangers, Flyers, Devils. I "despise" them more than the Red Wings. Just label me a crazed hockey fan. :D I rooted for the Ducks too. I wanted to see an underdog win. I don't think home ice is all that far out of reach with the recruiting class they have coming in and the improvement the sophomores should have from last year. They had the most insane luck I've ever heard of last season. Besides, you can see Colorado College play (check out my home page link. :D akrx8 07-05-2003, 12:10 PM the seawolves have always been great to watch and have got better the last few years.we also enjoy the anchorage aces, they play teams from all over the west coast and the closest we have to pros.that league has expanded and we are looking forward to seeing new teams come up here to play our aces. blizz81 07-06-2003, 01:32 PM wow just think if the avs beat out the wings offer on him, colorado would be unstopable.imo Detroit has enacted their 1-yr option they hold on Hasek, which will keep him from being a free agent I believe. Funny too, since Joseph has a 3-year no-trade clause. Can you picture Cujo on the bench? I can see the look on his face... I'm a Blackhawks fan from back in the 93-95 days. The Flyers are my team in the East. It seems all the sports teams I like end up trading away all their good players, etc. The Eagles are my team in football - at least they're making it far these days. I cannot believe the Flyers gave up Cech and signed HACKETT. Jeff Hackett is worthless, I remember having to put up with him in the Pre-Thibault days...Cech had a like, 1.50 career GAA. Just because a guy is shaken in a few playoff games....sheesh It hurt me to see the Colorado news - Federov isn't going back to the wings, watch....them or the Rangers will sign him. At least the Wings shouldn't be as dominant as in recent past - Stevie Y is a free agent now too. But they did get Hatcher... Love hockey...need to learn to skate though. Got a court hockey game here in...90 minutes, in 97 degree heat :) RX-8 Zoomster 07-06-2003, 01:58 PM Originally posted by blizz81 Detroit has enacted their 1-yr option they hold on Hasek, which will keep him from being a free agent I believe. Just because a guy is shaken in a few playoff games....sheesh That did surprise me. I wouldn't have given up on Cechmanek. Hell, I wish the Penguins had him. Philly's loss, L.A.'s gain. A change will do him good. They better hope Hackett gets better. His GAA is over double that of Cech. Love hockey...need to learn to skate though. Got a court hockey game here in...90 minutes, in 97 degree heat Love it too. But not as much as Pro Football. I skate like crap. Most of my time is spent on my butt, so I usually don't bother. Besides I hated getting out in those bitter Nebraska winter days more than I had too. That's why I moved my ass to sunny Florida, when I had the chance. Though I do miss Nebraska hospitality. Where about do you live? I lived in Bellevue for about 9 years. RX-8 Zoomster 07-06-2003, 02:23 PM Originally posted by RX-8 Zoomster Yeah, if that happened I'm sure Joseph would be pretty pissed. According to ESPN: The Detroit Red Wings have exercised the one-year, $8 million option they hold on the retired goaltender for the 2003-04 season, preventing him from becoming an unrestricted free agent Monday at midnight ET. boowana 07-06-2003, 02:38 PM "HE SHOOTS!
