BOXING champ Prince Naseem Hamed was today bailed after being arrested over a 209mph car crash.

The smash happened during a “crazy overtaking bid” — leaving a man seriously injured.

Naz, 31, who is said to have fled the smash scene, was quizzed by cops along with two 26-year-old men, who have also been released on bail.

A police spokesman said they were being questioned about leaving an accident and attempting to pervert justice, adding: “There’s an ongoing investigation into the true identity of the driver.”

Naz and the two men, one of whom is thought to be his brother, were nicked at the star’s £3million home a stone’s throw from the crash.

Last night witnesses said the ex-world featherweight champion’s £300,000 silver McLaren Mercedes SLR had crashed attempting a “crazy” overtaking manoeuvre on a country lane.

The car — with the number plate NAS1 — is said to have tried to whip past a long line of traffic.

But it allegedly clipped one of the cars it was overtaking, then ploughed head-first into an oncoming gold VW Golf.

The two-seater Mercedes slewed on to a grass verge and back on to the road in Sheffield. Its bonnet and a front wheel were ripped off and the whole driver’s side mangled.

The Golf driver was trapped in his car and had to be cut free by firemen.

He was airlifted to the city's Northern General Hospital with serious breaks to his limbs. He last night underwent surgery and is this morning "stable" in intensive care, a police spokeswoman said.

A woman passenger suffered cuts, bruises and shock. Her condition in the same hospital was this morning described as "stable" in a ward.

One of the men arrested with Naz went to hospital with chest pains.

The accident happened at 2.30pm on a road with a white “no overtaking” line.

One local said: “I heard a car hurtling up the road.

“There was a bang and a second later another. I ran out and there was a terrible mess. Two men ran past me. I said to them, ‘I think you ought to wait where you are’.

“As they ran away one turned and shouted something like, ‘I’m going to phone’.”

A witness in one of the overtaken cars said: “You could hear the guy in the VW groaning.”

Car-mad Naz, who retired from the ring three years ago, is a common sight around Sheffield in his motor.

In 1997 he wrote off a £100,000 Ferrari after a fox ran in front of him.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Three men have been released on bail this morning to a date in August.

“They were arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident involving an injury and suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of
justice.”

See? Who said high speed was dangerous? And regular cars are just if not safer than SUVs. Now if it was an SUV involved, it would've flipped over several times and probably would've been much worse. :D

there's no way it was 209 mph and a headon to a vw gold with a survivor.. maybe 209 kph.

the story doesn't mention the speed at impact. I think 209 mph is the top speed of the car. And, I'm also fairly certain that the English still do distance in miles. I could be wrong though.

He is an azzhole. Couldn't stand him as a boxer and absolutely loved it when he finally got his azz kicked. Can't even remember who beat him but I watched the fight. He is dirty and the guy who beat him didn't take any of his crap. Shut him up for a while.

April 7, 2001. MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. His opponent was Marco Antonio Barrera, who came into the fight a huge underdog. Barrera didn't fall for any of this chump's antics, and knocked the crap out of him. Barrera even had a point deducted from the scorecards because he supposedly slammed douchebag's head into a corner turnbuckle. And he still beat him by at least 4 points on all the scorecards.

This POS was the biggest showboating retard in boxing at the time. He would come into the ring with a very unorthodox style and liked to hop around like a rabbit on crack. Many a fighter fell to his BS in the ring.

But on April 7, 2001, he got what was coming to him, and as a boxing fan, I was the happiest person on the planet. I'm glad he left the ring, and it's too bad he lived through this wreck, because he'll just buy another car and do it to somebody else later.

I remember watching the fight between him and De La Hoya. Frustrating how content De La Hoya was to dance around the ring with him for the entire fight.

if he was going 209 that car would be way more screwed up, hitting a car head on at 209, would result in death for all involved

No one walks away from a 209 mph crash. And the car wouldn't look that good either. There has to be a mistake somewhere

This guy needs to have his lisence revoked

This is what happened when celebrity had too much money... I dont think he should even be a car nut like the report say, the same way you shouldnt call a Paedophile a child lover... hes more of an automobile psychopath... he collects car and destroy it the same way a serial killer collects his victim and kill em.

Jay Leno, now thats a car lover.

And is there a celebrity driving school that I dont know of somewhere? You know when I hear reports Britney Spears spinning a Modena, always got me thinking... how in the hell do you spin a Modena? And now this... a waste of a good SLR.

I feel sorry for whatver car he is buying next... people like this should go on a car offenders registry... if Im the engineer of that SLR, Id be pretty pissed to see my 5 months work being handled like that.

Yea, I don't know what was better, Seeing this a-hole get beat by Barrera, or seeing Roy Jones lose. Neither of these idiots ever fought anybody good. What a little weasel this prince Naz guy is. How could anybody like this guy? I seriously wish he would have died in that crash. What a POS.

I love those cars. Too bad undserving people can buy them. Nas was also a crappy boxer. I guess it's only fair that his driving abilities matched.
