My car is supposed to be the only first batch car at my dealer. The salesman and Manager have asked me a couple times now if I will let them display the car in the showroom for a few days. First off I said No-Way, but then started to think it may be profitable.
What are your thoughts on this? Should I?
What is a reasonable deal to ask for if I do? I was thinking about cashola off the price, but thought that they may go for free year of service some deals on options.

Stipulations:

1) No sitting in it (doors locked)
2) Roped off (no touching)
3) Manager gets one set of keys, I get all the others

any others?

$100 dollars a day, service for life of the car (really doesn't cost them much) and all accesories at cost. Your gonna have to act like you don't want to do it so they will put up some coin. You have to think how many people are gonna be attracted to it and how much money they will potentially make, it's not doing you a bit of good sitting at the dealer it's only benefitting them.

Depending on how good of a deal you get I would say go for it.

I don't think roping off the car would be reasonable, because some people just like to touch things. I would establish that you would make a final inspection of your car before you take it to make sure that there are no scratches or marks of any kind.

Keeping the doors locked is a good idea, because interior appointments are harder to fix than a small scratch.

As for what to ask for in return: Some money back on your car and/or extended service are good ideas, but you should also collect a commission on any cars he sells because of your car being displayed.

That becomes very subjective, you have to have specific terms set.

i get a special parking spot. right in front of my offie. people can look and not drive. i keep the keys and drive away whenever, just when i am at work i get to park right in front. istead of behind the dealer 5 minutes away by walking. doesnt seem like much but i like it. again its kind of different situation than yours becase i will still be able to drive it home every night and also at lunch time. where as you still will not have your car.

Hey FUB,
How about asking your guys what they would be willing to do if they were in the same situtation (wanting to display a customer's 8). Being the only one and all too.
Thanks!

Your car is going to get touched, (and dinged) when u park it outside anyways.

You can give them this "deal". In Japan, I believe they got a Mazdaspeed package for the RX-8. Tell them that they can make your car full Mazdaspeed spec and display your locked Mazdaspeed RX-8 for a 3 months. I dunno if the dealerships in North America will carry Mazdaspd stuff, but you can ask.

I do not know if this is too good of an idea, but u can try i guess.

In order to get the 1st 1988 RX-7 convertible, I had to agree to let them put it in the showroom for a week. After 2 days, my salesman called and asked if I could come get my car. He said he was becoming paranoid that someone would damage it. Needless to say, I was there in a flash. :D

if it were me these would be my terms.

-roped off but one side both doors open (so ppl can see in w/o getting curious fingers)
-a grand a week off the price
-mileage inspection in case any salesmen hears the rotary calling

hell you've waited this long see if you can ride them for some cash or a MS kit in a few years?
