View Full Version : What a Find
boowana 07-03-2003, 05:00 PM I was shopping around to see if there was any place to buy Mazda RX-8 Accessories at a good price and the thought occurred to me to visit our old friends ad Trussville Mazda. (For those of you who own or have owned Miatas, you will know they have been a major supporter of Miata magazine and have always offered the best prices on Miata Accessories over the past years.) Well, low and behold, I found that they already have a nice website up where you can order Mazda RX-8 Accessories at Great Prices! Check them out at http://www.trussvillemazda.com/partsstore/ . Just select RX-8 in the Model box and click Go.
They post the list prices as well as their discount prices and have many RX-8 parts in stock now. I've already ordered mine and saved a bundle. Go give them a visit.:D :D :D
ibfubar2000 07-03-2003, 05:08 PM hmmm i wonder if i can order from them and have them delivered here at work........
RotorGeek 07-03-2003, 05:15 PM Man BO you are the shiz-NIk. I want that hat
boowana 07-03-2003, 05:21 PM hmmm i wonder if i can order from them and have them delivered here at work........
I was able to order and have it shipped hereto my home. They will ship anywhere but I imagine you can do all right working for a dealership (or maybe not...). All I know is I saved a bundle because I ordered over $600.00 worth of stuff. The best I could do locally was a meager 10% which was offered begrudgingly after much pleading. This is the free enterprise system at its best at work.
rxeightr 07-03-2003, 05:26 PM And they are just 80 miles away from me. Thanks boowana, as I was not aware of their website. I knew they were a Mazdaspeed dealer tho....
Great find!
cueball 07-03-2003, 05:30 PM Nice find Boo.:)
You always manage to find us great stuff. Keep up the good work.
zoom44 07-03-2003, 05:33 PM some of their pricing seems to have been mixed up, for instance:
Front Sunshield
DESCRIPTION:
Front Sunshield. Protect the dash with this. Mazda listen to you and made this just for the RX-8.
PART NAME PART NO. OUR PRICE QTY
Front Sunshield 0000-8M-K02 $40.00
Retail Price: $31.20 - Our Price: $40.00
and also the wheel centers say sold as each for both styles but the "mazda emblem" ones show the price as:
Wheel Center with Mazda Emblem L082-37-192 $5.04
while the rotary ones show:
Wheel Center with Rotary Emblem F152-V3-825 $29.10
definetly good pricing though and probably the best we will find thanks Boo!
RX-Nut 07-03-2003, 05:45 PM ooh.. nice resource.. in case your dealers wanna jack up the accesories!
jtimbck2 07-03-2003, 08:35 PM Great find, Boowana!
Somebody posted this one in the forum a few days ago -- another place to order RX-8 accessories:
Rosenthal Mazda in Vienna, VA (http://www.finishlineperformance.com/rx8/index.html)
The prices aren't quite as good as Trussville, but it might be a better source for some of you.
eccles 07-03-2003, 11:59 PM Trussville have always done good prices, 'tis true. And since it wouldn't behoove Budaman to promote his own company's site, I'll do it for him... keep an eye on Mazdastuff.com (http://www.mazdastuff.com/directory.cfm?CategoryID=218) - they don't have the RX-8 stuff online yet, but I'll wager their prices will be more than competitive.
Charleston 07-04-2003, 12:31 AM Man I love this forum. I am used to usenet groups that are full of disgusting flame wars that get real personal. Here people help each other in so many ways it is amazing. I can hardly wait til people start getting there cars and discover some of the fun things we can do or add to our car to make it special.
I am interested in buying a bunch of accessories because I think they are cool, but I am a little wary. For example if I buy the fender strakes from Trussville, how do I install them? Do I have to drill holes in the fender or do they clip on? If they clip on, how do I make sure they don't fall off or get stolen? These may be dumb questions to those of you who have had some of these options before, but I can't be the only clueless one. One more question. How do you install the door guards and make them stay? Will they come off if they take an ugly hit?
I guess I'd like some close-up photos and info on how to install them. I am not afraid of doing a little work as long as I have good instructions. Sorry to be so long winded but this thread seemed as good as any to ask a few accessory questions. TIA for any helpful answers.
akrx8 07-04-2003, 01:13 AM i would also like to know how the strakes attach, must have strakes!:D
boowana 07-04-2003, 07:09 AM Your questions regarding installation are good ones. I would suggest that when you order stuff, you can always phone rather than using the Internet and ask about installation instructions at the same time. I know Trussville have been very helpful in the past. Thier number is 800-240-2121.
I would not think that you will need to drill any holes and that installation will be quite straight forward but they will know. In the case of strakes, I imagine ithey replace the existing black piece in the fender that is standard.
Once people on this forum start receiving and installing things, I feel certain that they will post the "how to's" up here.:p
RXhusker 07-04-2003, 08:38 AM I wonder if they have this stuff in stock? My dealer still says that none of the RX-8 accessories are available from Mazda yet? Anybody who has already ordered gotten confirmation?
budaman 07-04-2003, 10:02 AM From what I understand, the following items are now available. Dealers might not have them in stock, but we can at least order them now.
Polished wheels, vent bezels, alum. foot rest, brake and accelorator pedals, shift knobs, grill trim ring, night lights, window switch cover, rear door trim protectors, cargo net hardware(not the cargo net though),sill plates, exhaust finishers, fender strakes, all fog lights, valve stem caps and wheel centers. None of the other accessories have been set up in mazda's ordering system yet.
have fun accessorizing your cars!
boowana 07-04-2003, 06:46 PM I should start by saying I have no affilliation with Trussville other than to say they are obviously "on the ball!"
I spoke to the Parts Manager on Thursday and he told me they have a number of things in stock and available. I know I was able to order everything except for "color coded stuff" like Premium Carpeted Floor Mats. You can tell the accessories in the brochure that have color associated with them by the last two characters in the part number being shown as "-XX". That is where the color codes are added.
Here are the color codes you will need to add to match your car:
Titanium Gray - 01
Brilliant Black - PZ
Lightning Yellow - 93
Nordic Green - 97
Sunlight Silver - 67
Velocity Red - 87
Winning Blue - 84
I think there will be a huge rush on accessories once we get are cars and most dealers are "asleep at the wheel". That's why I went ahead and ordered all my stuff fromTrussville. They will arrive early next week before I will have my car so I will be ready.
Hope this helps.
:p
Charleston 07-04-2003, 07:35 PM I get the hint and I will be ordering the accessories that I did not order with the car on this coming Monday!!
Now I have another question. I ordered the Touring model which of course already comes with fog lights. I asked my dealer and got their okay in writing to order the blue tinted fog lights. Now upon reading this thread I fully appreciate the fact that blue tinted fog lights are a significant part in and of themselves (no easy changeout of the lenses) and they are not cheap. So does this mean I have to pay for the fog lights basically twice? I will not do that! I guess I am hoping they will come the way I requested from the factory but I doubt it because I don't see how my dealer can order it that way since the blue fog lights are not listed as an option--only as an accessory.
Any thoughts or opinions?
ggreen29 07-05-2003, 10:54 AM Charleston, check out this thread http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6105
You may be able to DIY. If nothing else ask the parts dealer if you can take a look-see at the parts and figure out yourself if the instructions are clear enough.
Hercules 07-05-2003, 11:06 AM Guys, I just called these guys up and talked with one of the people there... I think we might all be able to get a discount if we order thru them being that I've got my own Mazda site, as well as being a mod here.
I'll keep you all posted.
That would be amazing :). I'm thinking of ordering accessories because my dealer says my car is locked and i cant do aything with it.

Don't waste your money. Go to your local hardware store and get a a furnace/heater filter, cut it to size. Will prob cost you $7-20 (depending on what size/brand you buy) and you'll end up with at least three or four extra!
I used to do this to my ol' Celica. Here's a link to how it's done on the Celica and I assume it'll be very similar on the 8:
Celica Cabin Filter mod (http://www.newcelica.org/other/installs/insidefilter/index.htm)
Charleston 07-06-2003, 12:49 PM Thanks, that is a very good pointer. A good HEPA filter is an important device for filtering out microscopic allergens for those with allergies. They actually improve in quality with use as the tiny pores become clogged but you need to change them as needed. This will vary greatly with air quality but after a while you will be able to tell when to change them. The air volume coming in to the cockpit will drop slowly and then at some point you will realize that the air volume has dropped markedly.
OmegaBob 07-06-2003, 01:05 PM I used to change mine every three months and the old filter would look EXACTLY like the one pictured at the bottom of the link I provided - YUCK!
I'd find dead bugs, leaves and other tiny pieces of trash stuck in the filter. YUCK x 2!

Thanks OB. I have to try that.
RXhusker 07-07-2003, 01:04 PM Ordered mine from Trussville this morning -- thanks for the heads-up.
My dealer is still claiming that they can't order this stuff yet. Told him not to bother -- I already ordered from another dealer. Told him he better get his Parts Manager in the game and figure out what their problem is.
Trussville is already sold out of the front and rear Polished rotary accents, My dealer is pricey and not even in the RX8 parts game yet..........does anyone have advice as to where I can get the accents fairly quickly???
pmacwill 07-07-2003, 03:07 PM my dealer came relatively close to matching the Trusville prices. The one thing he pointed out that I didn't really think of was the following:
When you purchase accessories with your new Mazda, the 4yr/50,000mi vehicle warranty on the vehicle is transferred to those accessories. When you purchase accessories--even from a Mazda dealer and it is not with your vehicle purchase, the warranty is only 12 months.
Thats the only thing you might want to think about. My dealer's price came out to about $150 higher than Trusville's price (for $1544 retail in accessories). I figured the benefit of customer - dealer relationship as well as the added warranty was worth the little extra.

That doesn't sound right - that the accessories are covered under the 4yrs/50,000 mi warranty. I SERIOUSLY doubt that things like car mask (bra), car cover, filter, valve stem covers, etc. are covered for 4 yrs. 4 yr warranty covers engine, drivetrain, etc, not add-on accessories. I wouldn't doubt if they are covered by a 12 month warranty though.
Can ibfubar2000 or budaman verify this? Especially you ibfubar2000 since you work in the warranty dept.
budaman 07-07-2003, 05:32 PM That info is correct. If the accessories are added at the time of purchase, they will be covered for the full 4yr/50,000 mile warranty. If bought after the fact, just 12 months. This includes all Mazda accessories.

Thanks. Learning something new everyday. It's great to have all this informational resources on this forum. ;)
Now I would have to decide - would all these accessories be worth paying 20% more (as compared to Trussville) to have that added warranty.
EDITED:
Seeing that 75% of all their accessories are now backordered, maybe it would be worth getting them installed by my own dealer at the time of purchase.

does that mean that they have to be dealer installed though? or does it mean that as long as they are on the invoice with the actual vehicle (installed or not) they get the 4 year. I really want to install myself to learn about the car and to avoid the exorbitant labor fees.
boowana 07-07-2003, 09:00 PM I think this warranty thing is a scam. That's my p[ersonal opinion.
Since when did we worry about warranties on things like "fender strakes" or "door sill plates" or "Exhaust Finishers" or, what about Valve Stem Caps. Come on now, these things don't warrant a warranty in the first place. they are either right when you buy them or they aren't.
On the other hand, i would order something like an MP3 Player whicch might take advantage of the full warranty but not trim stuff.
Also,I understandf from trussville that if you call them and they are out of stock, they can get stuff really quickly. call them and ask if they are out of stock. Just a suggestion.
:p

Those exorbitant labor fees are what makes it possible to include all their work under warranty, and to train them so they aren't experimenting on your vehicle to learn more about it. Kinda tough to accept a warranty claim against your fender strake falling off when nobody from Mazda can confirm that you didn't just stick it on there with bubble gum.
'Course I'm being nice and assuming they actually are training and not making a huge profit margin on this. But I'm not paranoid today.

Exactly. That's what I was talking about. I would never expect those types of items to have a 4 yr. warranty, and then expect the dealer to replace them if they chipped, flake, or tarnished because of normal wear. I doubt they would either. You're correct - the are either right in the first place or their not.

Now something like the MP3, I understand how it could be under the 4 yr warranty, and if I bought it through the dealer and had them do it, I would EXPECT them to warranted it for 4 yrs, just like the factory stocked stereo.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to do that. Some of the items say they are "backordered - do not order" but they may take my order regardless and ship when the parts come in. I wouldn't mind waiting.
RX-Nut 07-16-2003, 05:16 PM Has anyone received their accessories from Trussville already? I'm wanting to order but dont wanna be a guinea pig.. haha..
I know some of you placed orders, but have you received them? and if you have received them.. have you INSTALLED them?
