View Full Version : Speed Cut foo77 05-03-2005, 05:38 AM does anyone install speed cut for A/T? dmp 05-03-2005, 08:34 AM you want to have your speed (ability) reduced? ????? Mugatu 05-03-2005, 08:40 AM  foo77 05-03-2005, 08:58 AM you want to have your speed (ability) reduced? ????? No, what i'm trying to say is my A/T have been reduced by a speed limit - probably my speed is around 100 mph :( khtm 05-03-2005, 09:05 AM I heard ATs cut off at 125mph. expo1 05-03-2005, 09:06 AM Maybe you messed up something when you installed that turbo timer? Better remove that before you go to the dealer. foo77 05-05-2005, 06:14 AM Maybe you messed up something when you installed that turbo timer? Better remove that before you go to the dealer. No, actually my A/T has the speed cut before i installed the turbo timer, anyone knows how to remove the speed cut? i mean is there a cip or what to remove it khtm 05-05-2005, 09:12 AM Yeah there's a chip called "you should have bought a MT" ;) zoom44 05-05-2005, 02:06 PM i believe in japan there are a couple of companies doing that. but whats the point if your car cant actually go much faster because it cant breathe anymore. point of diminishing returns.... therm8 05-05-2005, 11:41 PM i believe in japan there are a couple of companies doing that. but whats the point if your car cant actually go much faster because it cant breathe anymore. point of diminishing returns.... why couldn't it breath?? you'd be in 4th at about 5000rpm at 125mph. Now the 0.69 4th gear ratio is a different story, but acceleration would still be there. And perhaps he wants the speed limiter removed for forced induction or something. It takes a little over 2x the horsepower to overcome drag at 150mph compared to 120mph (assuming a 20ft^2 frontal area and a 0.3 Cd at sea level std conditions). The 4port makes about 80% of the horspower that the 6port makes, so acceleration beyond 125mph is available, would probably top out at around 135 or so without more power though. foo77 05-06-2005, 07:03 AM [QUOTE=therm8]why couldn't it breath?? you'd be in 4th at about 5000rpm at 125mph. And I agree with KHTM... if you were worried about top-end performance, wouldn't the 9k RPM 6MT been a lot better choice? therm8 05-06-2005, 09:02 AM Besides taking it to the track (and even then, unless you're a professional, that's still moving pretty fast), where can you possibly use more than 125mph? Yeah but he already purchased the auto, so it's kind of retarded to keep telling him he should've got a manual. The hit taken on trade in is probably not worth it to him. zoom44 05-06-2005, 09:28 AM i was goign to include that it would be good in the case of FI sorry for leaving it out G8rboy 05-06-2005, 10:13 AM Yeah but he already purchased the auto, so it's kind of retarded to keep telling him he should've got a manual. The hit taken on trade in is probably not worth it to him. Not more retarded than thinking you need to go over 125mph. dmp 05-06-2005, 10:26 AM why all the speed hate? 125 in proper context is safer than 55mph in the wrong context. G8rboy 05-06-2005, 11:07 AM why all the speed hate? 125 in proper context is safer than 55mph in the wrong context. Besides the track, what would the proper context be for >125mph in this country? I'm not saying I don't speed, and stretching it on the open highway on occasion is fun, but I can't imagine needing more than a 125mph capability. dmp 05-06-2005, 11:25 AM Besides the track, what would the proper context be for >125mph in this country? I'm not saying I don't speed, and stretching it on the open highway on occasion is fun, but I can't imagine needing more than a 125mph capability. Here's one context where 125mph is safe: http://www.rx8club.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=49287&stc=1 There have been times in my life where I've set my cruise control at 125mph...for over an hour on one instance. :) G8rboy 05-06-2005, 11:37 AM Here's one context where 125mph is safe: There have been times in my life where I've set my cruise control at 125mph...for over an hour on one instance. :) Exactly- my point is did you feel that 125 was not more than adequate? dmp 05-06-2005, 11:42 AM Exactly- my point is did you feel that 125 was not more than adequate? If the van could have gone faster, I would have set it higher. :D I think the van topped out around 130? It's been...10 years. therm8 05-06-2005, 01:27 PM Not more retarded than thinking you need to go over 125mph. Matter of opinion :D Truthfully i'm not even sure that there is a limiter at 125, as i've never taken the car above that. And there really isn't anywhere around here to do it either safely or without the chance of losing my license. And I don't need to go that fast, especially with gas costing $2.49 a gallon. Dark8 05-06-2005, 03:20 PM DMP: Is that out by Yakima? Looks like a nice piece of road to kill one's self on. dmp 05-06-2005, 03:25 PM I dunno where the road is - but it could be out that way...I just searched google to find a Eastern WA I-90-type road... :D Feras 05-06-2005, 03:49 PM yeah i guess thats safe then that coyote runs across the road you clip him at 150 mph lifting the side of the car causing a swerve, maybe even flip a few times as you come in backwards and upside down at a big boulder and kaboom. dmp 05-06-2005, 04:00 PM yeah i guess thats safe then that coyote runs across the road you clip him at 150 mph lifting the side of the car causing a swerve, maybe even flip a few times as you come in backwards and upside down at a big boulder and kaboom. (sigh)...or if one gets hit by a meteor! |
