ricecookie 04-26-2005, 04:46 AM Starting a new thread that can only be posted in between the hours of midnight and 6 am. This is for all those people that can't sleep at night. post about the random crap that you are doing to occupy your mind. Right now I am typing this and watching fight club. Its nearly 5 am and the birds just started chirping. I suppose I should go to bed now. Night, and morning to all those thart are just starting to get up for work.
ricecookie 04-27-2005, 12:43 AM So its 12:45. I'm watching overhauling. Makes me wonder what chip foose would do to an rx-8. He has sone some amazing thing with classic heaps of junk. What is everyone else to?
RX8-CARL 04-27-2005, 12:45 AM 5;45 AM here.
ricecookie 04-27-2005, 12:48 AM Wow, you just make it in. Up early or up late?
RX8-CARL 04-27-2005, 12:51 AM UP late finised work at 1 AM
Rhawb 04-27-2005, 01:01 AM 12:56 here and I wish I could sleep...I have finals in History and CS tomorrow, so I'm locked down in my room doing far more preparation than should ever need to be done for a final.
As if to taunt us, our history professor gave us 90 works we needed to know, but didn't tell us anything about them until Monday. Turns out we're allowed to bring in a notebook full of information, so I spent 5 hours today in the library scribbling down facts about all of these damned things and I'm STILL not done. Looks like it's going to be an all nighter tonight. Oh well, these are my last two finals, so I suppose I'll live.
juikster 04-27-2005, 01:05 AM I'll put on another pot of coffee.........
RX8-CARL 04-27-2005, 01:05 AM Glad I don't have any more exam's, Last one 20 odd years ago.
Good luck with your's.
Rhawb 04-27-2005, 01:12 AM Thanks - My CS one should be a snap. Open notes with a printable comprehensive set of notes from his website, plus simple material that I know inside and out, so things should be gravy there. The History one looks a bit more daunting, but I really can't imagine him requiring us to know some of these topics we never discussed in class, so it'll probably end up being easy as well.
Anyway, how was everyone else's day?
WildOne 04-27-2005, 01:50 AM My day really really really sucked! Oh yeah did I say how much my day :( sucked! By the way I can't sleep tonight either.
klegg 04-27-2005, 04:17 AM 4:16...I do not feel real well, and I seem to have thrown out my lower back.
I took a celebrax. I am going back to bed.
1:29AM PDT, and I'm too exhausted to even sleep.
Have driven 330 miles in the past 24 hours for work, driving a Scion xB with lowered/stiff suspension on 235/35/19 wheels. My body seems to be having memory reflexes of the car's odd swingarm suspension undulation and altogether bumpy ride.
Why the xB? Because my RX-8 is still in the shop after 2 months for a major rear-end / 4-car-accordion accident. This week the car will finally go into full paint, and I will finally see it again next weekend. Just in time for the 35,000 mile checkup.
Oh and the new LG VX8000 phone rox.
Rhawb 04-27-2005, 04:38 AM How'd you get a modded xB as a rental? I've never heard of rental companies offering anything but the plain old base models unless you request otherwise. Even then, they usually don't have very many additional options added to them.

It's actually the company golf cart where I work. :-D
klegg 04-28-2005, 12:41 AM Well, 12:41. I cashed hard after my chocolate orgy, slept for an hour, and now am wide awake.. Going to play doomiii expansion.
No More Oldsmobiles 04-28-2005, 12:42 AM It's after midnight, and I would let it all hang out -- if I didn't have a bunch of papers to grade.
Speed_D 04-28-2005, 02:51 AM I never get to bed before 3:00 am. Of course this state doesn't recognize daylight savings time. Yet.
I'm doing some crazy work on my PC tonight.
Check this out:
ricecookie 04-28-2005, 04:20 AM Ajax, 2 things.

And two, i am coming to dallas on the 17th of May. Wanna pitch your 8 against my civic. (This is said with as much sarcasm as humanly possible). Anyhoo, I wouldn't mind meeting you while I was there.
juikster 04-28-2005, 05:12 AM Hey Ajax, while your digging in to your PC, mine as well drop in a greddy turbo and possibly a new set of volks wheels and get rid of those factory ones, eh, :D

Dutch Harbor, AK
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A Coast Guard rescue helicopter ferrying crew members from a stranded freighter crashed in the Bering Sea, leaving six people missing in the rough and frigid waters. The ship they left behind ran aground and split apart.
As rescuers searched for the six Thursday, the Coast Guard was responding to a possible fuel spill near a sensitive wildlife habitat.
The other four on the helicopter - three Coast Guard personnel and one crew member - were picked up by another helicopter participating in the rescue, the Coast Guard said. They were taken to Dutch Harbor on nearby Unalaska Island for medical treatment. There was no immediate word of their condition.
Two other people who had stayed behind on the ship were rescued separately, as were 18 other crew members taken off the ship earlier.
The Coast Guard had been struggling to help the 738-foot freighter, the Selendang Ayu, since Tuesday when it began drifting after its main engine broke down. But 25-foot swells and 30-knot winds hampered their effort.
The freighter, which was carrying a load of grain, is owned by Singapore-based IMC Group and is registered under a Malaysian flag. Its crew was Filipino and Indian, the Coast Guard said.
Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Roger Wetherell said the search was continuing early Thursday for the six missing. The water temperature was about 43 degrees and the waves were as high as 20 feet.
After daybreak a plane and two helicopters will be dispatched to join the search, Wetherell said.
"The survival time is right around three hours in those conditions," Rear Adm. James Olson, commander of the Coast Guard in Alaska, said earlier. "We'll search as long as we can be effective throughout the night."
Olson said he did not know whether the crew members were wearing survival gear. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
The Coast Guard is responding to a possible fuel spill, Olson said. Unalaska Island, in the Aleutian chain about 800 miles southwest of Anchorage, is home to sensitive wildlife habitat and fisheries.
The carrier's 440,000 gallons of heavy bunker oil had been transferred to inboard tanks and the fuel heaters were turned off to thicken the fuel, so in the event of a spill it would not disperse, Petty Officer Thomas McKenzie said.
The amount of spillage, if any, was not known Wednesday night, Olson said. The Coast Guard was transporting an oil containment boom to Dutch Harbor.
A tug boat had attached a line to the freighter on Tuesday evening, securing it for 12 hours. But then the line broke and the vessel resumed its path to the Unalaska Island shore.
The crew of the Selendang Ayu dropped anchor when it reached shallow water, but it was lost in the rough seas after just a half hour.
The crew later dropped its other anchor, which for a while held the freighter four-fifths of a mile from shore, Olson said.
Sometime around 6 p.m. Wednesday, the captain of the freighter requested the remaining crew member be evacuated from the vessel, as the anchor had begun to give way and the freighter had started to flood.
Eight were on board, after 18 had been previously evacuated.
The helicopter crashed into the sea soon after picking up crew members, leaving behind the captain and a Coast Guard rescue swimmer. They were later rescued by the second helicopter. Around 7:15 p.m., the freighter broke in half.
The Selendang Ayu is a single-deck bulk carrier built in China in 1998. It is owned by IMC Transworld, a subsidiary of IMC Group.
Company representatives are in Dutch Harbor and have met with Coast Guard officials, Olson said.
Olson said all Coast Guard personnel had been accounted for.

I will post a pix og mine. It is not in you legue by far, but it is kind of neat.
Well, mine isnt perfect either. It's neat looking but it still has leaking issues. The leaks are so slow that they're hard to notice but I've still got one and it has to go.
Back to work on it.

8 Maniac 12-22-2010, 02:56 AM Ripping a bunch of CD's in FLAC! High quality sound with unnecessary file sizes! I'll probably end up redoing everything in a more compact format since I'm probably not able to tell the difference, but I can definitely tell the difference between the FLAC files and my old ones.
How is this relevant? I'm doing it because I'm awake and have nothing else to do!
phrenetiK 12-22-2010, 03:29 AM been laying down for 2hours...cant sleep :\
SayNoToPistons 12-22-2010, 06:40 AM Got Phys and Calc finals today in the afternoon. Almost 7AM, banged out some good amount of phys tonight, time for calc. Woo yeah

Grace_Excel 12-24-2010, 10:54 AM Been awake since the past four hours doing last minute gift wraps, gonna hit the sack in a few.
8 Maniac 01-24-2011, 04:56 AM Well... holidays have come and past. Back to work and a new semester for all the students out there it seems. Largely due to my procrastination, I've found myself up late most nights doing assignments for one class or another. This definitely seems like it will be the most consistently intensive semesters I've had... I haven't changed my plans yet, but it's definitely making me wonder if I'm crazy for wanting to do grad school after I finish up undergrad.
Figured this thread deserved a bump, even if it is as I go to sleep. I'd like to say I'd be getting to sleep earlier if it wasn't for the procrastination and assignments, but I'd probably end up late at night anyways.
TiffanyLillian 01-24-2011, 10:37 PM I usually don't fall asleep til around 3 or 4am every morning...
This happened after I became single :/

RX8Soldier 01-25-2011, 03:18 AM I can't sleep cause I just spent the last week putting my body through merciless mental and physical torture (thanks army). I keep thinking someone is gonna kick open the door any minute and start yelling at me... :suspect:

Definitely know that feeling... I'm used to staying up late but went through a break up over the holidays and it seems to be messing up my sleep schedule quite a bit for some reason. Kind of over that crap now, but just have so much work and I put it off so I'm up late trying to understand relatively complex research articles and it doesn't work out so well.
I can't sleep cause I just spent the last week putting my body through merciless mental and physical torture (thanks army). I keep thinking someone is gonna kick open the door any minute and start yelling at me... :suspect:
That sounds like fun... you'll probably get over it some time. Either that or you managed to develop a case of PTSD, though that might be a bit of an exaggeration on my part (psych major...).
Definitely looking forward to getting this week over with... and hoping the rest of the semester isn't so busy with assignments. I still have to complete an IRB ethics certification type course and read 2 articles (probably 10 pages each) and do a summary on one of them tonight. Tomorrow night I have 3 more articles to read and then 2 more the next night. Haven't had a chance to look at any of the articles yet, so there's a chance a few of them might be as long as 20 pages. Page lengths can be deceiving when it comes to reading research :(
TiffanyLillian 01-26-2011, 10:29 PM I'm gonna be up pretty late tonight... Driving to my parents place.
Waking up at 7am for court (NOT a morning person) ughh

8 Maniac 01-27-2011, 03:41 AM After class tomorrow, my week is finally "over". Still have class Friday, but finally have a break from the out of class work. RX8Soldier 02-18-2011, 03:07 AM might not sound fun... but put some ice on that for about 20 min! (or longer, if you can stand it lol). That'll keep the swelling down.
Then, put some heat on it and take some advil. That should get you some comfort for sleep!

I just had to call and wake my brother up (in the next bedroom) to bring me some ice & advil...
The pain wasn't this bad when 2 hours ago... Its almost unbearable...
But I think the ice should help at least numb some pain away so I can pass out lol
DocBeech 02-18-2011, 05:29 AM sounds like you either dislocated the patella and then snapped it back in, or damaged a tendon.
TiffanyLillian 02-18-2011, 05:37 AM sounds like you either dislocated the patella and then snapped it back in, or damaged a tendon.
Whatever I did, fuck*ng hurts. I haven't slept 5 mins all night and its almost 5am here.
:/
DocBeech 02-18-2011, 05:42 AM Sounds like a dislocation where you have soft tissue damage to the tendon. Without being there I couldn't really tell you much. Email me if you want a couple tests you can do yourself to see if you tore any tendons or caused damage that would mean you need immediate medical help. I know a couple that won't be fun but you can do them yourself.
TiffanyLillian 02-21-2011, 01:43 AM Another night of no sleeeep :/

How's your knee?
TiffanyLillian 02-21-2011, 01:58 AM me too =(
How's your knee?
Found out on Friday that I tore my ACL and I had to have x-rays done.. I'm seeing an Orthopedic Doc tomorrow to find out about possible surgery :(
The pain meds they prescribed me doesn't help, so I'm back to restless nights... :'(

Ouch! How did you manage to tear your ACL?
Did putting ice on it help at all? Try putting a pillow or something under your knee?

Long story on how I tore my ACL... Lol
Yeah I've been icing it, and elevating it. Doctor told me to stay completely off my right leg & put me on crutches, so you can imagine my weekend was a blast... Lol

8 Maniac 02-21-2011, 03:55 AM I should have studied a bit for a test tonight... but that didn't seem to pan out. Test isn't till 5:30 and is open note though, so not exactly concerned.
Hope you fell better soon tiff... can't even imagine how painful that must be.

8 Maniac 02-25-2011, 02:53 AM Procrastinating on studying again... seems like I have a habit of doing this. This class is particularly frustrating because of the professor. She spends at least 5-10 minutes of every class talking about how difficult this material is and how unprepared we are for the tests. If it's so difficult, maybe she should focus on teaching us instead of wasting time every single lecture. The best part is that it really isn't that difficult. I'm a fairly average student and I almost have an A in the course and barely put any effort into studying for it. I really didn't mind the course early on, but after the first couple weeks, it just got really annoying. Anyways, /end rant.
What's everyone up to tonight?

procrastinating, per usual....hahaha...old habits die hard
8 Maniac 02-25-2011, 03:07 AM It depends a lot on the assignment/work that needs to be done. I've been fairly good at keeping up with some classes this semester and then I put other classes off till the last moment or until it's too late. I actually only had 15 minutes to study for the last test in the class I was just ranting about, but it worked out fine since I got an 85 which I'm perfectly fine with.
In general, I definitely have a bad habit of procrastinating. I just hope it doesn't get me fired when I have a serious job lol.
Rx8vsMalibu 02-25-2011, 03:24 AM I guess I'm not the only one who is studying at the last possible moment. Organic chem, microbiology, and physics exam coming up...whooo.
Was doing a term paper, decided to give up. I think I'll take the hit and not get the extra credit on it and just turn it in on time. Had two full weeks to start, didn't start till 4 hours ago, for ec it's due tomorrow...procrastination FTW :D:
DocBeech 02-25-2011, 04:18 AM I dunno about all that, I prefer to have it done early then you don't have to worry about doing it, plus you get all that procrastination time for other things:P
8 Maniac 02-25-2011, 04:41 AM Well, wasted the night away reading forums and messing with my new phone... now I get to go to sleep and force myself to wake up early so I can actually get some studying done before this test.

Good luck! I managed to get up on time but my procrastination ended up being a pain. My hot water was not flowing at all and I really needed to study, so I didn't have time to get the apartment to fix it before my class. So... I was stuck taking an ice cold shower. Still procrastinated so I've only had about 15 minutes of studying, but I kind of hate this class and don't care as long as I do at least moderately well on the exam.

DocBeech 02-25-2011, 07:39 PM At least you didn't stay up playing Killzone 3 before you have to work 12 hours lol.
Grace_Excel 02-26-2011, 03:31 AM Back from work, off tomorrow. It's raining and cold outside, another night to catch up on some shows in NetFlix...
Grace_Excel 02-26-2011, 03:42 AM At least you didn't stay up playing Killzone 3 before you have to work 12 hours lol.
I remember when I was in the Navy. My roommate would come home during lunch-break and play 'WOW' online. Heads back to work, comes home and plays online again. I would have ER duty until 2300 and I come home and he's still playing!
There were moments that I'd wake up in the middle of the night to catch a glimpse of him on the couch, T.V. and 'WOW' ON, keyboard on the lap, and he's knocked out. I'd wake him up and he'd freak out/pissed off because his group was fighting a big-boss. He fell a sleep only to wake up in the game left died. I was like that almost everyday!
I seriously thought he should be in that show "Intervention".
DocBeech 02-26-2011, 04:37 AM Yes well, how it works for me is more like I fall asleep for four hours then wake up. I can't fall back asleep so I play some games, watch the news, take the dog out. Something/Anything to get me moving and hopefully tired enough to fall back asleep. On the bad days when I get to wake up to dreams of Iraq I pretty much know I won't be going back to sleep so I have to do something to kill the time. I actually only played KZ3 for a little over an hour. I installed the new thermostat. Replaced a faulty circuit breaker, and did laundry.

8 Maniac 02-26-2011, 08:18 AM ^Should stop in more often... a lot of fun stuff happens in the lounge. Pretty much anything off-topic from the other forums ends up here so it's just a good place for general conversation (and the occasional debate and such).
Well, I don't know why the hell I'm still up... been reading forums and stuff I guess. I've spent way too much time messing around with my phone since I got it on Monday... not quite satisfied with the set up yet, but this is how my lockscreen looks:
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5096/5478343605_ff8bf18fa5_z.jpg
Live wallpapers don't look nearly as cool in screen shots, but oh well. The galaxy would normally be rotating. Not sure how I feel about the colors yet, but it's growing on me the longer I have it. Need to sort out the slider icon colors.
Anyways... end of my rant and start of sleep time.

It's a motorola atrix... lock screen is widgetlocker with a couple widgets (minimalistic text and circle battery). The date and time is just useful info to have displayed... the 3 text icons (text, email and camera) are just easy shortcuts for quick access. The camera is the most useful because you don't always have a lot of time to catch some things that are worth a photo. Like I said, still a work in progress. Not sure about the color scheme and I'll probably end up reorganizing things again.
Went to a concert tonight (finally a reasonable reason to be up late) and my ears are still ringing... Great show though. Skipped the opening band and just saw the main show which was Immortal. Probably not most people's cup of tea though.
Time for sleep again...
Blackfire 02-27-2011, 06:31 AM Came back from a meet just like errverbody else apparently lol. yeh i heard about the snow, also my friends r in the mountain and it snowed like nuts. also did anyone else in CA get the hail in the morning? it was a lot!
Grace_Excel 02-27-2011, 12:12 PM Nothing around L.A. Area, but I-5 on Fraizer Park was closed by 9pm last night. The road conditions were bad, there were still black ice present this morning. It's melted now that it looked like it didn't rain last night at all. This week would be a good time to snowboard, put some snow tires and take the 8 up on Summit or Bear!
8 Maniac 02-28-2011, 02:47 AM Whether has been annoying here... think we got up to around 90 degrees today. Seems too early for it to be getting that warm.
I should be doing my online defensive driving course... but putting that off and reading forums as usual.

8 Maniac 02-28-2011, 03:28 AM I might be wrong, but I thought videos automatically were removed if the uploader's account was removed.

8 Maniac 03-02-2011, 02:57 AM Always liked a lot of the OZ models... definitely a good looking wheel.
I've been seeing an FC RX-7 driving around my area lately and it's really making me want a 7. I just spent the last hour torturing myself by looking at the rx7club classified section. I'm definitely convinced that I'd love to own one, just a matter of having money :(
Procrastinating again, like usual. Actually finished some work earlier today and don't feel like doing anything after doing that assignment. I basically had to download 90 excel files (45 pairs) from a previous experiment and then combine each pair by copying and pasting each part of the data set on a new spreadsheet. I had to do all of that due to the fact that the old version of excel had a limit on the number of columns (256) and the data sets go beyond that limit, so the survey site we use splits the data into 2 files. When it was all said and done, it took 3 hours to finish. I probably should have split it up over 2 sessions, but I put it off and needed to get it done... hope I don't have to deal with that again.

I keep doing the same all the time and here I am once again. Can't sleep and have work at 7:30 then school until 5...
8 Maniac 03-10-2011, 04:02 AM I did that last night... kept putting off studying/doing homework until 4 am. Pretty much went to sleep and forced myself to get up early. It worked. I hate how psychology works sometimes. Even though I always procrastinate, I feel satisfied with the grades I receive. That just makes me more likely to keep doing it. The problem with that is the fact that it will take a lot of effort to change my habits if I ever find myself needing to correct that.
The good news for tonight is that I'm basically done with class for the week. My actual lectures for Thursday and Friday were canceled (leading into spring break) so I don't have to deal with those. I did tell my professor that I'll run one of the experiment sessions tomorrow though, so it's not like I can sleep forever. I never thought I'd say this, but I actually enjoy having crap to do these days. If I have too much free time I find myself getting restless. Even though it's a lot of stress, I've actually enjoyed the work load this semester.
Since there's not really a specific "form" to this thread, I seem to use it as my little ranting zone, since it spurs conversation and such. I was supposed to be going to Vegas for spring break with my parents this Sunday. Yeah, I know. It sounds lame. And I'd definitely prefer to do that kind of trip with friends... can't help but feel a little "restrained" on a trip like that when around your parents. That said, I'm actually pretty cool with my parents and have no problem hanging with my dad. Plus, I'm not about to complain about a free trip. Unfortunately, a huge deal my dad was working ran into a LOT of problems. Enough so that he can't afford to leave town without risking quite a few opportunities that will result from sealing the deal. Sounds like we'll be able to reschedule the trip, but it will have to wait till summer. Even so, looking forward to the time off. Like I mentioned above, I've enjoyed the semester quite a bit, but I've definitely been feeling burnt out these last couple weeks. Having the week off to relax is definitely going to be refreshing so I can hopefully come back energized to finish off the semester. Seems hard to believe the first half is already over, but the fact that I've got another half left seems daunting. I know I have a massive research paper due at the end of one of my classes, though I've been having to read articles on a weekly basis that I'll actually be using for the paper. In a way, I've been putting work into it this whole time. It's still supposed to be about 15 pages, so it wont be a walk in the park, even if I've done a large portion of the research already. Rants seem too easy to draw out... you start talking about one thing and it just continues until you've discussed everything in your life. So, I'm going to cut it off there. /endrant
How is life going for all the other insomniacs out there?
cdleo71 03-10-2011, 04:25 AM That was quite a read. Free time? what is that? ha ha. I already finished my spring break but I didn't get to do anything interesting due to the massive amount of school work and other projects. I've been going to bed really late during the last couple of weeks because I had tons of stuff to do but didn't get a chance to be on the forum this late. The reason I'm still here working with the computer is because I'm revising my midterm project that is due tomorrow. I can't wait for this semester to be over, I'm taking a trip to Atlanta at the end of the semester since I didn't get to do anything fun during spring break... but now back to my project! :spank:

Happy Birthday! Good thing you didn't lock the keys in there. Do you at least have an extra set, just in case?
Well, I was definitely up last night but I guess I missed the discussion. I was mostly just watching the news on the quake. Fortunately, everyone I know seems to be safe, though it's still devastating to hear about the losses over there.
Anyone wanna give input on a situation I've found myself in? It kind of sounds stupid, but I can't get it off my mind for now. Basically, I missed an chance to get a girl's number and kind of regretting it. I'm doing an independent study this semester and so I'm running experiments with my professor. We had a session on Thursday and I was helping. The girl was one of the participants. Since it was for an experiment, it's not like we got to talk really. I caught her looking up at me a few times during the experiment and she even smiled at me a couple times... so I definitely think she might have been interested. After the experiment my professor commented on her shoes and she ended up staying around for a few minutes chatting with us. As much as I wanted to ask, I was there for the experiment and we still had to organize the data sheets and such. It really didn't seem appropriate to ask at the time, which is why I held back.
So, onto my question. During the chat, she mentioned the class the class that required the participation in the experiment. I could easily look up the time/location of the class, but it seems like that might be a bit too stalker-ish/creepy. Just to add to that effect, spring break started so a whole week would have past by that time. Is it a bad idea? Should I just hope to see her on campus again? Again, I know it's kind of silly to be asking, but it's always nice to hear opinions on stuff lol.

Again, I know it's kind of silly to be asking, but it's always nice to hear opinions on stuff lol.
unfortunately, i do not. car came with 1 plate, 1 set of keys, and one !@$*ing spilled bottle of perfume in the rear center console FML it sat like that for almost a year FML and the stupid dent and worn engine ugh FML i cant afford all of that but i can afford to go to Las Vegas in April for my VERY FIRST PERSONAL VACATION? BY MYSELF?? hell yes. :fingersx:
anyways, bad time or not... you should have been like "hey, interested in finding out the results later?" then she'll be all like "hell yes cutiepie ;)" and then you'll be like "alright, my number is 867-5309" she'll be like "mine is 985-655-2500 ;) talk to you later"

That sucks.. my 8 only came with 1 key/fob as well. My S4 only has 1 key... not even a remote. Been meaning to get one sometime, but I've kind of gotten used to opening the door the "old school way". Even though I'm used to it, it's still kind of a pain.
That advice isn't too far off of what a friend told me, though I'm pretty sure he wasn't serious.

lol dang... my work truck is sooooo base model. no power windows, no power locks, no cd/cassette player, no wheel tilt, no cruise control, no alarm.. which is ironic as i am a security officer.. stupid ford ranger. im lucky the seat is adjustable.
but i have no experience with girls, so i use that movie magic BS.. it doesnt work fyi.
also i got a question.. at the high school i work at... im parking my 8 in a new spot on campus where most kids walk by... if i park close, its like a small gap of sidewalk, 3 kids at a time maybe.. when they walk by.... should i press the panic button?
8 Maniac 03-13-2011, 05:58 AM Seems like I missed an entire hour tonight...

Red_Fox 03-17-2011, 04:31 AM wow i didn't know there was a thread here not the least bit tired after a 8 hr shift wont be sleeping till 7am
8 Maniac 03-17-2011, 04:44 AM It's a good place to talk to yourself or the few others that may be up to reply this late in the night/early in the morning.
I hate the fact that it always seems like I'm doing nothing when I'm up, yet I always manage to stay up late. Feels like I always end up trying to find something to do.
DocBeech 03-17-2011, 04:49 AM mmm one of the downsides to being someone that has worked nightshift for years, On your days off you stay up nights too. Then end up catching a second wind when you need to run errands or do things during that day and end up 24 hours at a time not to destroy your work sleep routine.
Red_Fox 03-17-2011, 04:51 AM yeah i'd say i'm already fucked up my sleep schedule so eh i sleep all morning and wake up at 1ish which is where everyone wants to do something that time i'm not much of a morning person but too bad i have work at 3pm so 1hr half isn't alot to do anything lol
8 Maniac 03-17-2011, 05:49 AM Sounds like a fun schedule. I don't really have an excuse... I just end up staying up too late and have a fairly normal schedule otherwise.
8 Maniac 03-18-2011, 04:11 AM Looking through rx7club classifieds and youtube vids of 7's and kicking myself for leaving the rotary. I love my car and I know it's a better car for me in terms of space, reliability, mpg etc., but I still find myself missing something about the rotary. Kind of considering the idea of picking up a DD and a 7, though I know I can't realistically do that for at least another couple years, unfortunately. It'll probably be better for me to wait till I can actually afford to keep up with/work on a 7 project.
StreetGT 03-18-2011, 04:25 AM Another mouse out and about..
8 Maniac, as long as you come back eventually all will work out.
These past few late nights without my car :'( due to it waiting for an engine I've been pondering my Mod list... If anyone cares, tell me what you think next time you can't sleep.

Definitely can see myself coming back, but most likely wont be an 8 unless we see a surge in the market for aftermarket parts. I definitely have the urge to find myself with an 8 again at some point in time, but I think I'll try to find a clean FC or FD. I've recently noticed that I have a liking for sports cars from the 80's and 90's for some reason.
1) I don't think I've heard either of those in person. Both are supposed to be good options. A lot of people like the TurboXS but many think it is too loud. I had the HKS single with a resonated (catless) midpipe and I doubt the TurboXS is louder than my old set up. I honestly didn't quite like how loud my HKS was though. It was just barely on the annoying side a lot of the time. At the same time, I really did enjoy it when I wanted to have fun.
2) I, unfortunately, never got around to shocks/springs/coilovers on my 8. Personally, I would go with coilovers. It seems it's generally not recommended to just change the springs and leave the stock shocks. Even if you do go that route, you should expect to have to change your shocks down the road. So my vote would be a shock/spring combo or coilovers.
3) I'd expect a safe turbo set up to cost a bit more than that, even if you got a used kit. There's plenty of little reliability things that should be taken care of on the car as well as with the turbo kit (depending on which kit and any fixes that may have already been done). Your goals do seem fairly conservative, but plan ahead and set up the car as if you'll be making more power than you're planning. You never know when you might feel like increasing boost to make more power. I've had my car for about 6 months now. I haven't had it on a dyno yet, but it's probably making 400-430 awhp and I've grown used to that. I definitely wouldn't say I'm bored of it or that I dislike it, but I do think about getting more power from the car some day.
4) Wheels sound good. Wider tires will definitely be good if you're planning on more power. That price range will limit your options, but it all comes down to what you want and like. Only thing I'd recommend is to try to stick to something light. It doesn't take much weight difference to be significant with wheels. Be sure to check in the wheels/tires section for the "Will it fit" thread so you can figure out what offset you'd want with those wheel specs.
man i've heard so much crap about the 7 forums.. they be hatin on nissan skylines too lol
Another example of a car from the 90's that I'd love to own. I don't really frequent the 7 forums... I really only go there to tempt myself to buy an FC or FD every now and then. Been a member there for years and I've only posted a couple times. Pretty much just window shopping.

DocBeech 03-19-2011, 02:14 AM Make sure you stay under the weight of stock setup when it comes to wheels. If you don't youll start to blow out bearings and could bend axles. You need to at least match the weight of stock wheels.

Pretty nice looking car, but not quite my style. I think, if I were to get an FC, I'd want a really clean, stock looking sleeper. I'd go in a different direction with the appearance stuff if I didn't go with the stock look. I just browsed the FC's for sale there and was surprised at how few grabbed my attention. I looked a couple months back and there were quite a few I loved.
The FD's on the other hand... there's quite a few of those I'd love to pick up. One in particular seems to stand out, but I'm even further from affording an FD.
superhypered 03-19-2011, 05:20 AM someone once told me... "FDs exterior parts are like Lambos".
from this, I interpreted it as it was either expensive, or rare. I'm going to go with both.
Personally, those yellow FDs... wow. Wish I had more money. $2600 left on this one!
8 Maniac 03-19-2011, 05:38 AM I'm sure some of them are quite expensive. But, when the end result looks like this:
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5140/5538999115_66ca8f693e_b.jpg
It seems like it might be worth it. It's almost painful to look at that car being for sale, knowing I can't afford to buy it.
That stock one with under 7000 miles is just amazing. Starting with a car like that would be so much fun for a project because of how perfect it is. You'll find some amazingly clean cars on the exterior, but to find an interior in that condition is truly a gem.
superhypered 03-19-2011, 05:41 AM you could also try to completely restore it yourself. having someone else do it... at that point, you might as well get some supercar. or have that unique looking car. depends on the person
i wish i was multi talented with auto detailing stuffs.
8 Maniac 03-20-2011, 04:42 AM Yeah... some of the well put together 7's get ridiculously expensive. I can understand paying for that low mileage one because it's so pristine and could easily be considered a collectors item. I definitely have a hard time seeing myself buying some of the other cars that have so much stuff on them that the seller wants over 30k. That veilside fortune FD is nice and all, I just can't see myself spending over 40K for that. I'd imagine most people who have that money to throw at an older car like that would probably want to have something built to their preferences, if anything. Might just be me though.
I had to put one of my cats down yesterday (Friday evening) so I'm kind of out of it. I actually wanted to get to sleep earlier but couldn't really. Obviously sad about it, but I'm more restless than anything. I have to drive back to San Antonio from Houston tomorrow (~4 hour drive) and then classes start up again on Monday, so maybe it's just the general stress of everything. I'm actually looking forward to getting back though. Having time off was nice but I feel too unproductive. I actually enjoy having stuff to do on a day to day basis, even if it does get tiring. Turned out to be a bit of a shitty spring break, but that's life I guess. Should be a rather enjoyable summer followed by my final (undergraduate) semester.

8 Maniac 03-21-2011, 04:27 AM It's that time again! Up still, as usual.
Class starts back up tomorrow and, instead of doing my homework, I've been playing games. Found a copy of Yoshi's Story (for the 64) and started playing it again. I know I used to own a copy but couldn't find it. It was worth buying again though, since it's easily one of my favorite N64 games.

Glad to see I'm not the only one around... I have class at 9 but I can't sleep again. :dunno:
8 Maniac 03-21-2011, 04:41 AM I guess I'm lucky in a way then... my class doesn't start till 1. I'm basically stuck on campus till 7 though. Guess that's a trade off.

Definitely better than starting at nine. I only have to be there for a couple of hours though. Three fifty-minute classes and that's it for me. I will definitely take a nap when I get back. :smoker:
8 Maniac 03-21-2011, 05:14 AM Those days end up being really exhausting though. Fortunately, I only have that once a week. One of my classes meets once a week between my monday/wednesday classes, so I really only have time to run off campus to grab food or something and then head straight back. So I basically just stay on campus and try to relax as much as possible before my 5:30-6:45 class. On the day that I don't have that one class, I have a few hours to relax so I can chill at my place for a bit. Even if I'm up, it's much less exhausting if I can relax at my own place instead of waiting around on campus.
cdleo71 03-21-2011, 05:21 AM I agree on that. I work at school too so I am usually on campus Monday through Saturday (sometimes even Sunday) for either work or classes. I particularly hate Thursdays because I have work in the morning, then I have a couple of free hours and then I have a two and a half hour class. Hopefully one more year and this will be over ha ha.
StreetGT 03-21-2011, 10:13 PM 8 Maniac, as far as wheels go I'd get as light as I could... But honestly when I need new tires I'm going to put 245/45's and if they work out I really like the stock wheels so might keep them...
And Superhypered, When I'm a millionaire I'll keep you in mind :)
TrevorsTII 03-21-2011, 10:25 PM I bought some Work CR Kai 17x9 +28 i will be running 245/45 tire. Not saying buy those wheels, but tire prices for 17s are moar better then the alternative. I bought mine also to go on my FC.
superhypered 03-22-2011, 03:49 AM And Superhypered, When I'm a millionaire I'll keep you in mind :)
i appreciate it :)
and FML work is getting way too specific and cracking down on us! I dont know if they expect me to walk around the whole time for 8 hrs straight and not sit down at all.. it seems like we arent supposed to use the computers at any of the campuses or something, yet they give us a work email? i hardly check that at home.
paranoid idiots, at least i get the job done and done right. 2 pm to 12 am with no internet.. had withdrawals. now i'll never go to sleep
9kBeep 03-22-2011, 03:59 AM Howdy people. just discovered this thread, i wouldn't consider myself an insomniac, but i do work a night shift so my schedule is all sorts of goofy. i work for proctor and gamble. 6pm-6am, 12 hour night shift.... had tonight off so i thought i would say hello.
Grace_Excel 03-22-2011, 04:04 AM Welcome, I'm doing a 16 hour(two 8's back to back) shift. Double-shift, double-time.
g8ter 03-22-2011, 05:32 AM always up late cuz of work, I got the 3-2am shift.....whats goin on guys?
Domenico 03-22-2011, 05:43 AM That suck guys, I just wake up early ha.
8 Maniac 03-22-2011, 06:47 AM Hopefully I can get my sleep schedule a little more under control. Found myself staying up even later than usual over the break so now I'm stuck in that schedule. I'm really only up this late tonight because I put off my assignments too long, but that's still the result of the schedule I'm on. I'd imagine I'll be able to deal with this for a couple days before I tire out and end up getting to sleep early. The only unfortunate thing is that I have quite a few assignments/tests/experiments this week that I need to keep up with so I'll probably still have to pull a couple of late nights to manage those.
Time for me to get to sleep. Still have more work in the morning before going to my class x.x
I know that rut, having a split schedule like mine 7:30am-12pm mwf then 7pm tth it's so easy to just stay up every other day and then that carries through to the next day then it just becomes a full week of finally sleeping anywhere from 1 to 3 in the morn. That and my actual insomnia are just doing work to me. The voices in my head need an off switch. Also I need a job to straighten out my spare time management haha maybe that will give me more incentive to get on a proper sleep schedule.
8 Maniac 03-23-2011, 03:50 AM I definitely know what you mean. I find that I manage my time a bit better if I'm busier but I also don't get the same amount of spare time that is good for relaxing. Kind of a trade off I guess. I know for sure that I need at least something to do or I just start really feeling off.
Well, it looks like I'm going to have to do something about my sleep schedule on Thursday night... I have an experiment to run on Friday and need to be there to set up at 9:30 am... that means I'll have to get up by 8 am or so. I'm sure a lot of people consider that sleeping in, but I'm worried about actually waking up for that!
8 Maniac 03-29-2011, 03:06 AM Procrastination strikes again! Put off studying over the weekend and earlier today so I'm stuck studying now and tomorrow before my test.
StreetGT 03-29-2011, 03:12 AM What are you studying for 8 Maniac?
We can start a group study.
8 Maniac 03-29-2011, 03:57 AM It's a marketing senior seminar on consumer psychology. I'm a psychology major and I had this course recommended by one of my professors because it's being taught by a social psychologist, so the course is really based in psychology. All of the literature we have to study is research publications that are pretty much psychology publications. I honestly feel like this should have been a psych course available for marketing majors instead of a marketing course available for psych majors.
All of the experiments/findings are psychology based with marketing applications. While the application side of research is important, it's really apparent that the more psychology related material is more important in this course. Not trying to be an ass towards the marketing majors in my class, but it seems like most of them don't quite grasp the full importance of each article. A couple of times I thought I read the wrong article because the person summarizing the article (for discussion) had misinterpreted the experiments/findings.
At the beginning of the semester, the professor said that my experience from previous psych classes would probably help me out, but I honestly feel like that was more important than the experience the marketing students have from their previous courses.
So... with all of that explained, what I'm specifically studying right now is basically self control type concepts. Just to name a few concepts: Thought suppression, Immune neglect (psychological immunity, not physical), Ego Depletion (not the Freudian ego), Impulse buying, and Motivated reasoning. Basically, they're all different aspects of self control and the decision processes that motivate buying habits.
superhypered 03-29-2011, 03:59 AM ^ i couldnt even skim that if i had to.. lol
Domenico 03-29-2011, 04:09 AM Im a marketing and business administration major, i understand that marketing has physiologically in it for example marketing segmentation.
8 Maniac 03-29-2011, 04:24 AM Well, the biggest problem is that it's almost definitely easier for psych majors to take this course, even if it is a marketing class. Part of the required psychology curriculum includes 2 classes that dedicate a major portion of the course to finding and breaking down these types of articles. It sounds like the marketing students have had some exposure to research publications, but not nearly to the extent that psychology majors have. The class should, honestly, be revised to focus on the implications and applications so it's more marketing based or be changed to a psychology course. Including me, there's only 2 psychology majors in the class and we're the only 2 people with A's. It is a senior seminar, so I realize it's supposed to be difficult, but I feel like it favors psych majors much more (in its current format) than marketing majors.
Forgot to mention, this is the first semester this course has been offered so the professor is kind of testing out the class format/curriculum on us.
Edit: Well, it's now 4 a.m. and I just hit that point where I'm too tired/exhausted to think anymore... pretty sure it would be pointless to do any more studying for now. Still need to get up early and do a bit more. Then I just have to hope I did enough!
8 Maniac 04-26-2011, 04:07 AM Figured this deserved a bump. Coincidentally, I'm up studying for the same exact class because I managed to put off studying until now. Fortunately, this is the final for the class, so I'm done (with that class) after tomorrow.
Unfortunately, that leaves me with 2 more finals and a 10-15 page research paper to do by the end of next week. I'm not too worried about the finals, though I haven't had the time to really start on the paper. I've probably done most of the research for it, as that was kind of something we did as the semester progressed. As soon as I get a chance to sit down and at least look at where I'm at, I'll be able to relax a bit more. I'll probably still need to do at least a little more research, but hopefully it wont be too bad.
So, what's everyone else up to tonight/this morning?
DukeDerox 04-26-2011, 04:11 AM I hate finals.... Screeeew studying, I have another week lol
I'm playing guitar and watching Sealab2021 :p
8 Maniac 04-26-2011, 04:25 AM Technically, my prof isn't supposed to do this, but he's giving us the final tomorrow even though the final schedule (determined by the school) is during next week, which is finals week. The test is honestly the easiest in the class by far and covers a lot less material than the other tests have. It actually helps me out a lot since I'll probably need a good portion of next week to work on my paper.
DukeDerox 04-26-2011, 04:33 AM Each class had a common theme for me: Quizes to get you to show up, exams to make sure you're learning, one long paper to see if we walk away having learned what we need to, & easy final. I think a paper would work well as a final :p
Problem was the teachers were terrible and no one learned anything. I remember one 100 lvl class had like 60% fail :/
8 Maniac 04-26-2011, 04:56 AM That sucks... I had basic US history class my freshman year that had class averages in the 50's and 60's for each exam. The prof was pretty cool and curved a lot, but was still kind of odd that he had tests that got scores like that.
Kind of random... was just messing with my cat and ended up getting scratched on my lip. I'm used to getting scratched from time to time and I frequently don't notice it, but this scratch seriously stings! It's not a terrible pain, just a really annoying stinging and throbbing. Hope it heals quick... I can see it getting pretty annoying if it's slow to heal.
DukeDerox 04-26-2011, 05:08 AM Like a papercut, It seems to hurt waaaay more than a gash haha
Tell your cat to "GO TO BED MEOW!"

8 Maniac 05-07-2011, 07:28 AM Felt like bitching/bragging about being done with the semester, so bumping this even though I'm going to sleep now.
Last half of this semester ended up being constantly busy so I was left working on a 10 page research paper over the course of this last week in addition to having to study for and take finals. Needless to say, it was stressful and I'm damn tired! Technically had till tomorrow to finish the paper, but it's the weekend and the paper was the last thing for me to do for the semester. So, I stayed up till now working on finishing that paper. I'm too tired to really know how well I did, but I've already sent it in so I don't really care right now.
The good news is, my professor told me I'd basically have to turn it in written in crayon to get less than an A in the course... so I'm not exactly worried about that. That said, this professor is going to be a huge help for me in grad school and will probably be my best recommendation, so I still wanted the paper to be at least moderately representative of what I'm capable of writing. Also, I'm planning on taking the same course (independent study) with him again next semester, so I don't want to make myself look like a moron if I'm going to be doing this again.
Really glad to be done... now it's time for sleep and then hopefully I can wake up at a decent hour to work on changing my brakes tomorrow.
What's everyone else up to?
