View Full Version : REVi installed on Automatic
Marietta 8 04-25-2005, 12:15 PM This morning we installed the Racing Beat intake on a 2004 Automatic 8 w/25000 miles on the clock. Mods include R/B cat back, SR pullies and N flash. No Dyno numbers but the owner of the car said he felt the difference immediately and will give us feedback after aweek or two on the road. The fitment is perfect as it is on 6spd models and is easier w/out fog lights and vfad.
This one will most likely not get dynoed but I will post feedback from the cars owner when I hear back from him.

army_rx8 04-25-2005, 12:17 PM cool I'm sure teh at crowd will be happy to hear this. :D
DreRX8 04-25-2005, 12:20 PM Keep us posted--I plan on getting the intake as well.
canaryrx8 04-25-2005, 12:20 PM sweet, I'd be curious to hear about the pulleys actually :)
Marietta 8 04-25-2005, 04:09 PM The pulleys did produce any noticeable difference in feel on my 6spd car but the owner of the automatic said they helped on his. We did not dyno after just the pulleys.
legokcen 04-25-2005, 04:12 PM I just drove OD's RX-8 yesterday with the Intake and Flywheel he's got and it feels like a different car. Definitely something I enjoyed.
canaryrx8 04-25-2005, 04:16 PM hey marietta, got any pics of your 87? I was just curious as to whether or not they would help, seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding the effectiveness of them etc.., some people say this, some people say that, you know how it goes :)

yeah
maybe some pics too
Fanman 04-25-2005, 06:24 PM Have the pullies on my MT, didn't do jack. Dynoed & got about 1 whp.
canaryrx8 04-25-2005, 06:36 PM sounds like the good old standby of intake/exhaust is still the best place to start on these, at least intake anyway as the RB is getting a lot of props
XDEEDUBBX 04-25-2005, 07:29 PM Have the pullies on my MT, didn't do jack. Dynoed & got about 1 whp.
fanman..did you ever fix your backfiring problem?
Fanman 04-25-2005, 07:42 PM Car is in the shop this week. Adding boost controller, turbo timer, & new Greddy map, dynoing, etc. Hopefully the new map will solve the backfiring issue. If not I will see if my mechanic can fine tune the map, & if that doesn't work then I will probably just put the stock cat back on. Very strange, random order sometimes it is OK, not too much backfiring. other times (like when you went drove the car, it backfired quite a bit.

I am not sure if I understand, do you want to see pics of my 87 RX7, or my 8? I wish I had dynoed after the pullies but I gotta say that since I didn't feel anything, I didn't think I would see any measurable gain.
Of note, underdriving the water pump will reduce cavitation at high RPM's. This won't really be an issue unless the car is raced and kept at high rpm for long periods. A good explanation is in the Racing Beat catalog under cooling system tech tips.
Anyway tell me what you want pics of and I'll put them together for you.

Marietta 8 05-02-2005, 03:03 PM Customer called me this am and is totally thrilled with the intake. He said the power is noticeably improved and the sound is great. By the way, this guy is in his 50's.

RAGE91169 06-03-2005, 12:44 PM Hay hi still intrested
lsujim 06-12-2005, 09:14 PM I was able to get the owner of the car to let me test drive his 4AT. I have a stock AT and am looking at adding the REVi and RB exhaust. This owner has added these 2 plus SR pullies. He is very satisified with the performance increase from all 3.
I drove the car for about 15 minutes and noticed a slight performance improvement over stock but not in the low end (this is as I expected). The biggest change was in the sound. It is distinctive and a good bit deeper than stock when hitting the gas. Forunately there seems to be no noticeable increase in noise when idling or driving at highway speeds.
Both the owner and I agree that these changes make the car more driveable. However, as indicated on this board, there is no easy way to increase bhp or low end torque on the AT.
Personally, I would like to have both mods and may eventually so. May start with the REVi and then add RB exhaust later.
