How would you determine residual value on a car that has not had any market reaction yet? Isn't residual value determined by supply/demand or is this some figure mazda can just pull out of their hat and determine themselves?

Got these from my dealer in Canada. Sorry about the metric.


24 months: Residual 68% for 20,000 km/yr, 66% for 25,000 km/yr.
36 months: Residual 59% for 20,000 km/yr, 57% for 25,000 km/yr.
48 months: Residual 52% for 20,000 km/yr, 50% for 25,000 km/yr.
