View Full Version : Longer "last visit" timeout

I make extensive use of the feature that allows me to see what threads have been updated since my last visit and takes me directly to any new posts in those threads.

However, my "last visit" time resets if I don't hit the forum for 15 minutes. This can be a PITA during the day, when work has a habit of interfering with my forum activities, and can even cause friction at home: "I'll be there in a few minutes, darling - if I leave now I'll lose my place" doesn't carry much weight with the missus.

What I'd like to see is the default timeout extended or even made into an invidual option on the user cp.

Conversely, it can be a PITA to return to the board after only 10 minutes of inactivity, only to find that the "go to first new post" arrows still take me to the same post I saw before because the "last access" time hasn't updated. Can a new button be added to reset the "last visit" time to "now" so that we can reset the cutoff when we're going to be away for a few minutes but less than the 15-minute timeout?

That is what the "Mark All Forums Read" link on your View-New Posts-page is for. Though, admittedly, this marks ALL threads, and there does not appear to be a way to mark individual threads. I have the same problems you do. I think if it showed new posts since you last marked them read, vice when you last logged on would fit the bill.
