View Full Version : Doc, need a pill ID'd.
Rhawb 04-21-2005, 11:13 PM So, theres this kid I know who loves being a martyr; today he has 'cancer' and he left some of his tumor pain relief pills here. I think they're Advil 200s, but I'm sure one of you knows better than I. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
The pill is a white coated tablet with 420 inside an oval printed on the front. (Image enclosed, albeit small and blurry)
BlueEyes 04-21-2005, 11:13 PM smarties.
You know, I just re-read your post, tumor relief pills, thats pretty funny stuff.
It's my understanding that tumors rarely cause pain... I'm not a doc but those sure do look like a generic Ibuprofen that I've seen before.
I'm not a doctor either but if you take the big one, you run the risk of copper poisoning.
abbid 04-21-2005, 11:30 PM Yeah, im gunna have to agree with ike, Ibuprofen from the employers medicine cabinet.
They don't say Rugby on them do they?
Rhawb 04-22-2005, 12:09 AM No, they just have an oval with 420 written inside. We looked them up using that ID number and matched up all the features of the pill and all we could come up with were Advil 200s. Hardly pills I'd perscribe for "tumor relief." Maybe tummy ache, but definitely not tumor relief. Someone suggested they might be X, but I really don't think this guy does drugs and I very honestly doubt he's smart enough to know where to pick the stuff up anyway.
On that note, don't worry, we put the pills back into the bottle without the big brown one in order to save the poor guy a trip to the hospital. :p
Also, Blueeyes, you responded WAY too fast. :D
Sigma 04-22-2005, 12:33 AM Don't look like any X I've ever seen -- too rounded and shiny. They appear to be gel-coated. Are they? If so, definitely not X, and I can't even remember the last prescription pill that I took that was gel-coated.
Rhawb 04-22-2005, 12:54 AM I don't believe they're gel coated - they're just the typical "candy shell" kind of coating that a lot of tablets have (they actually look a whole lot like M&Ms). This guy claims it's a perscription, however, in working for a pharmacy for about 2 years and filling a whole lot of perscriptions for painkillers, I've never once come across this pill. This is what initially led me to believe that the pill is, in fact, an OTC of some sort and not an actual perscription medicine. I'm really looking forward to calling his bluff or having someone else do so, lying about having cancer just isn't cool.

Hahahaha, man, that's priceless - I think we're going to make him a fake perscription label for them now, just so he remembers what they are. :D
Now, does anyone know the abbreviation for "take two pills when you feel cancerous"? (kind of like BID for twice daily) :p
Speed-ER doc 04-22-2005, 02:00 AM Sorry I was late, I wouldn't have known anyway.
Advil can relieve some tumor pain too though. It's good stuff, if it wasn't over the counter people would be asking for it. Because they can get it whenever they want, they take it for granted.

It's not that I don't believe that tumors would cause some pain or that a doctor wouldn't give it to a patient for relief of said pain. No, the problem in this case is that he had a "tumor removed" from his "spine" (which was apparently outpatient surgery with no recovery time) and his "doctor" gave him these pills for the pain. These must be some miracle ibuprofen, because this guy was up driving around, wandering the apartment, and doing plenty of other things I wasn't capable of for days or weeks after my surgeries. Maybe I just wasn't taking the right meds...
Photic 04-22-2005, 10:39 AM say in your best arnold voice.
IT'S NOT A TUMOR
Speed-ER doc 04-22-2005, 11:49 AM Probably it was just a pilonidal cyst.

Sounds about right for that guy. Thanks to everyone for all your help verifying those pill's identity - tonight should be VERY entertaining if he decides to show up to retrieve those pills after we all have a few beers in us. :D
