I am planning on ordering the Teins S techs soon and dont want to have a shop put them on b/c they are all so expensive. I have seen some pretty good DIY on here for installing and was wandering if you guys who might have installed them think I could do it? I have never installed springs or coilovers on any car before. Did anyone here install them themselves without really knowing what they were doing when they started?

 

I put my Tanebe's on by my self using (rented)the (small)spring compresser kit from my neighborhood auto parts shop......It does present somewhat of a challenge but I had the jack, jackstands and common tools to do it.

 

Did my first springs on a Lexus IS300 about 3 years ago...
Told myself never do this again!
Guess what? Just did the springs on my RX-8....
Was almost a breeze, just get 4 jack stands, spring compressor and metric tools.
(Beer and nicotine helps to)
After the install get an alignment.... Need one bad....

You need an alignment a week or two after right?

 

alignment on the rear,front should be fine but they should check it...I didnt use any power tools just what we mentioned above.

 

I've done it for the first time with a bunch of RX-8 guys here. It was Murix's car. Now that I have springs, I think I can install it myself but I lack 3 things: Time, Impact Wrench, and place to do it.

I know the impact wrench is optional, but I'd like to do it quicker since I would be installing my sway bars at the same time. I think anyone can do it as long as you remember how things were before you took them off :D

 

If you don't have the tools or the friends, don't do it. Pay somebody. 1 person doing takes about 5X as long as 2 people with tools doing it. It is not a fun adventure. I had my mechanic do it on my 8, but back in the day my friend & I did his 8 & it was a major pain in the ***.
