Ruler_Mark 09-07-2002, 02:28 PM Who ever was driveing that RX-8 is sooo lucky! Who ever saw that guy should of followed him home and asked how he got that car!. The only bad part was is that the car had a bra on the front and back :(.
EDIT : after my first excitment of seeing the car on the street i looked at the photos a bit more and noticed that the RX-8 was driving into MAZDA Headquarters... Lucky bastard..
BlueAdept 09-07-2002, 02:35 PM And the pillar behind the rear door was taped to make it look like the window extended all the way back... perhaps to take away the distinctive rear pillar...
Any clue why the lights are blued in all the spy pictures?
I want to know where they are gonna hang a front plate as they are mandatory here...
Appleman 09-07-2002, 02:58 PM It looks like blue pastic to cover the details of the lighting design, but clear enough to allow the proper light through.
zoom44 09-07-2002, 03:26 PM finally a real pic with a silver car. i hope its silver, it might be grey but it looks good in that color. i couldn't see the gutters in those pics like the red spy photo one had but it could be just the angle.
appleman, thanks a bunch. i read the thread also, maybe you could clue those guys in on the stats of the renesis. one guy said three rotor with 287 hp and one guy corrected him saying it was a single rotor. that just shows how much more mazda has to do to get the word out on this car :(
tribal azn 09-07-2002, 05:07 PM that looks to be mazda headquarters in irvine. i should go there sometime and try to get some info/pics
Ruler_Mark 09-07-2002, 06:20 PM GOTO the headquarters and get us some high quality spy shots! i would if i could.
wakeech 09-08-2002, 02:53 AM what i have yet to understand or have explained to me is WHY THE HELL MAZDA PERSISTS IN MASKING THIS CAR!! the whole world knows it's coming, that one is nearly preproduction, for goodness' sake, with (MUST be) at least the exterior finalized...
WHY NOT JUST PUT A BIG ASS BILLBOARD ON IT SAYING "own one: spring 2003" OR SOMETHING!! man, at least for our own tilillation... it'd just be so nice, and good for thier friggin sales figures...
man, sorry i'm so worked up about this... obviously i think hype would be a good thing...
why would Mazda WANT for it to continue as a sleeper??
Grimace 09-08-2002, 11:15 AM Awesome! Great find!
Wakeech, would you want 500 motorists following you wherever you go? :D
Couple of things:
- in the first pic, the rain gutter is there, but its hard to see.
- gas filler neck is on the drivers side (never noticed a fuel door before)
- in the third picture, check out how the right rear turn signal is lit up - 3 little bulbs. Quite unique, I like it. (Of course, without the blue masking, it might look different.)
- the rims are different! zoom in on the wheel in the 2nd or 3rd photo! It looks like the new rim is a twin-spoke design. I like it much better. Check out the pictures below (the new rim is on the right):

rotarynews.com 09-08-2002, 02:02 PM You all do realize that SevenStock is at Mazda R&D HQ, right?
Take that statement for what you will ;)
Toadman 09-08-2002, 02:54 PM *Evil Grin* as I nudge Dan. :)

The fuel door is noticeable on most of the pictures, even the official Mazda yellow ones it is there. And the wheels are the same as the rotarynews spy shots from August 20th. Here is a better shot of them:

Yep, you're right. I wonder why I never noticed the fuel door on any other pictures?
And I've seen that spy shot before of the '8 testing in the snow. Can't believe I missed the rims there either.
Must be old age.
By the way, I'm going to get you and "Applejax" confused a lot. :) He's another member of this forum.

Mind you with the fuel door.... it's going to be half on the driver's side, and half on the passenger's side.
Most cars are made like that, because of gas stations getting too crowded on one side of the station. Just simple logisitics :)
Or is it one type of car has it on driver's side and another car on passenger's.... I forget. But either way, I wouldn't expect all of the gas caps to be on the driver side. Though I'm used to it with my two cars.

danielk015 09-09-2002, 01:41 AM that is the mazda headquarters in irvine on red hill... hmmmmmm
HottRodder 09-09-2002, 02:43 PM From the first pic it looks as though the turn indicators in the mirrors has gone away too.
In the first pic. Whats that at the base of the A pillar?

hey grimace, don't you think that driving down the street in a car with masking all over it draws some attention? that would be enough fo rme to try and follow it and get some pics. i think its time for mazda to take the wraps off!:D
and hot rodder i wish i new what that was. someone at work here suggested it was where they moved the turn sigal to from the mirror but i'm not really buying that.

And with the limitation of the resolution, it looks like they could still be there. I would not say that that picture shows that they're gone.In the first pic. Whats that at the base of the A pillar? It doesn't look to me like anything more than some kind of sticker. Something simple like the flags of the countries involved with developing the car. I would not read anymore into it than that, especially since this is a camouflaged car.

my thoughts exactly. we should go there and try to get some info/pics
Jerome81 09-09-2002, 07:15 PM Are the R&D headquarters in Irvine? I thought those were only the corporate offices, with R&D in Japan and Ann Arbor, Michigan??
I am a pretty good Mazda fan, but I must admit that I don't know much about their locations. I know their world headquarters are in Hiroshima, their US headquarters are in Irvine, and there is an office that does something in Ann Arbor. Oh, and I think the ad agency that came up with "Zoom Zoom" is in Detroit. ;) That's all I know.

BlueAdept 09-09-2002, 08:17 PM OK, where do I get the zoom zoom music...
The "Serapis Bey" track from the Soundtrack to "Only The Strong" is very different to the advert.
zoom44 09-09-2002, 08:25 PM what is "only the strong" or for that matter "Serapis Bey"?
asa far as the song, i wonder if there is a way to pull it off of the cdrom? didn't someone post that to your ftp server? there must be a way to seperate the audio track from the rest of it.
BlueAdept 09-09-2002, 08:49 PM The track on the advert is called "Zoom Zoom Zoom" it's a Capoeira track by a guy called Serapis Bey.... and it's on the soundtrack to the film "Only the strong".... BUT... the one used by Mazda is very much less oriental and more modern... I've got the original... but I'd love to get hold of the one used in the advert... it must be available... anyone know?
Toadman 09-09-2002, 08:57 PM *Cough*KaZaA*Cough* ;)
zoom44 09-09-2002, 09:18 PM what he said. its free and it must be out there somewhere! :D
BlueAdept 09-09-2002, 09:35 PM LOL...
Yeah, but I cant find anything if I don't know what it's called.
Donovan 09-10-2002, 02:58 PM That pic of the red one looks like the far side of the parking lot of Mazda Irvine and is that the silver one in the truck????
Can't wait till 7stock Last year RXEvolve this year production RX8:D :D :D
houstonRX8 09-11-2002, 04:03 PM anyone notice any type of glass for the sunroof/moonroof?
I can't tell with the pics if there is one or not!!!
let me know
houstonRX8 09-11-2002, 04:12 PM does it seem like they have made the distance between the rear windshield and the end of the car longer? Something seems different between the pics of the yellow car, and these....something about the body...
what does everyone else think?
HoustonRX8
zoom44 09-11-2002, 04:14 PM maybe that is what they are masking with that black film from the passenger window to the rear window. i was wondering what they were trying to hide!
wakeech 09-11-2002, 04:22 PM no, i think the "longer" rear deck is from an optical illusion, both from the lens on this camera, the photographers oreintation to the car, and that little spoiler they got on there (cool!!:D)... it sort of looks like it's at least a few inches tall...
**edit:
oh wait!! that spoiler looks like it's a combination of something (which straddles the length of the boot lid) and tape!! :( too bad, hoping that it'd be a cool factory option, or at least the beginnings of a factory aero package...
Aeterna 09-13-2002, 04:55 AM I'm with wakeech on this one...
I want to have the world see what a beautiful car can be, and will be. I saw something the other day that surprised me, daresay, scared me. Maybe this isn't news to the rest of the world, but where I live in West TX, it's like a supernova...
I saw the new Nissan 350Z, up close and personal...
It's 'supposed' to be our car's stiffest rival for a certain demographic. I know many of us are true to our '8, but now Nissan has the jump. It was parked in the faculty lot of the university I attend. Just there, like nothing (hehe), but that's my (and I think wakeech's) point. Mazda we've got to blow the whole world away with this thing... let's hurry!
I've personally written to Mazda with hopes for contacting Advertising&Marketing to produce commercials for the '8; I could make it incredible, in the eyes of the unlearned (we here at the Forum, already know)
