Visor slot should be on the left

I love the card slot in the visor. But it is on the right. I store my employee pass there. I have to show it to the guard as I drive in and then use it on a reader at a gate. That means I either have to get it with my left hand and transfer it or reach across with my left hand. I wonder if Mazda is using the same visor as they put in right-hand-drive cars. It sure would be convenient if the slot were on the left.

Then you run the risk of it getting sucked out the window

Hmmm. Mine has a clip for attaching it to pocket/shirt, so I doubt it would go. But I wonder if it could happen with very light cards.

Which brings up the question -- on right-hand drives, is the slot on the left?

I didn't even know there was a card slot on the visor!

While we're on the subject of visors, what's with the perforated material that makes up the visor itself. My wife says it's to let the natural light diffuse through. Could she be on to something?

i've always heard that it is so when you are sitting at traffic lights around sunrise/sunset (depending on direction and time of day), you still have the majority of the light blocked, but you can still see the traffic light.

Yes. I could not bother to tell you to grow up. The current position requires me to either reach across my field of vision or hand off while driving.

may look around the one of the regional sub-forums, like asia, europe, or australia (are they rhd?) and try to find out there, since they have the rhd cars, they'd be likely to know.

then again, i don't know if it would be of use to you since it would be on your passenger side, and then you'd really have to reach.

I've used it for that and it is nice when I occasionally face into the sun at a stop light, but most often the sun is next to me. When I swing the visor to the side window, I can't seem to find a position where it dows what I want it to. The light gets through and I'm still blind. Maybe it's cause I'm too damn tall :D

I'll have to go check out this card holder thing. Never seen it.

Just looked at the car, very cool. Now I can forget about forgetting my ID. I did notice the slot on the right-hand visor as well. Maybe you could put your ID in the right one. It's a comfortable reach for me but I have monkey arms.

Here's what I was thinking:
1) if RHD cars have the slot on the left, it would tend to confirm tiggerlee's idea that they want to keep it on the opposite side of the window so the card doesn't get sucked out.
2) I doubt mine is light enough for that to happen. So maybe if I could get a JDM visor and swap it in, I'd have the slot where I want it.

The slot is perfect for my gate-opener card, a good, snug fit. But don't insert it too far, or the visor swallows it up.

BTW--My driver-side visor disintegrated this week--terribly loose, seam split open on the hinge side, inside all busted up. It's bizarre how many places cheap trim design or construction is cropping up. I'm sure that the dealer won't hassle me about a replacement, and I'll handle the new one with kid gloves.

I use both visor slots for parking cards. The right visor's slot is on the outboard side of the visor, so I'm guessing RHD models have the same visors as we do.

We have a card slot on the visor? Man I learn something new about this car every week. I just realized there was a change holder on the left like 2 weeks ago. I gotta start paying more attention.

The funny thing is I took off both visors last week to remove the airbag warning stickers and I still didn't notice this slot.

That reminds me, I keep my change in the ashtray now over the change holder because it's so small and hard to see in there that I can never tell what change im pulling out and most of it spills on the floor when I reach in there (fat fingers).

are you saying that you have no card slot on the driver's side visor or that its on the driver's side visor but on the right hand side of said visor?

I have a card slot on my driver's side visor.

I noticed this as I was looking for the slot. The seam near the hinge seems to be seperating.

On the positioning of the slot, I think that the JDM visors are going to be the same. They probably just put a slot in both visors so they could have two molds instead of four.

There are card slots on both visors, and both of them are on the right side of the visor. I think it would be handier to have the slot on the left, especially on the driver's side.

That's what I'm thinking -- Mazda did not change the visors for the left-hand-drive and RHD version of the cars.

tiggerlee brought up a good point -- that maybe the slot is on the right side of our cars so your card would not get sucked out of the window. But if RHD cars have the slot on the right, then they're not worrying about the card getting sucked out.

I think it's more convenient to have the card positioned by hand you are most likely to use. I have to pull my card out and display it for a guard, then use it on a card reader. I could do this with one move if the slot were on the left. Otherwise I have to block my field of vision by reaching across, or swap the card from hand to hand, usually while still rolling -- not to mention the fact that you might need the right hand for shifting.

That's probably a personal thing. I'm one of those people that is extremely right-handed. I can't even pick my nose with my left hand. So, having the slot on the right side works for me, as I couldn't get a card out of the left side with my left hand if my life depended on it. :D
