Alright, I am an 18 year old senior and I am about to graduate and move onto the next stages of my life, and for a while now, I've always wanted to get a tattoo. I am going to get a tiger because I am 1/2 chinese and I was born in the year of the Tiger for the Chinese Year. I am going to be getting it on my upper back either across my shoulders or in the middle.

I am not getting a tattoo just to be "cool" like some idiots do. This tattoo will represent who I am as a person and my culture.

I also do not know if I should have it in black/white or if I should have it in color. It will probably be no bigger than my hand, so nothing too large.

Not really my style but I would say the one with the orange tiger, just because the artist did a better job on that one.

I don't really think it's lame if it means something too you. It's lame when chicks get shit tatoo'ed over their ass for no reason or dudes get arm bands for no reason. If it has a meaning, and you have thought it through it can be a nice thing to have.

I don't know about those ones, not really my style. I would pick the third if I had to choose. Maybe go and talk to an artist and see what they can design for you that's unique. Maybe draw it yourself.

if it HAS to be one of those three, I would say the third one, but ....I wouldn't recommend getting a tiger face, maybe do something with Tiger Stripes, and get it in color so people know it's fom a tiger. Do something interesting with the design, the outer designs on the images you've shown have been done to death....maybe have hte outside designs somehow merge with the tiger stripes.

But most of all, be happy with your choice, even if others don't like it.

I'd try and find a more stylized tiger. Perhaps even the Chinese Kanji for it.

Those 3 seem kinda... well... tacky.

I found some others that seemed pretty intersting.

I will likely talk to the artist and see what kind of design they can come up with, I will just give them some pictures like this so it will be easiest for them to come up with some designs and picture what I like.

I really like the 1st one, just take out the most outer tribal designs and I think it would flow pretty nice.

I found this one a while ago. I kinda like the shape of it, though, not how busy it was with all the stripes. It also has, IMO, a little bid of a chinese flavour. I see a lot of chinese art where they show views of dragons and other animals in this kind of pose. I think it might look nice in B&W with fewer stripes.

DEFINITELY...get a custom tatoo...don't get something someone else has...be creative...work with an artist to make something you'll love...don't just stick with a Tatoo artist most of their work is trite shit

u find someone out of the Tat Biz to make an artwork that someone in the Biz will ink on

I like the first one of those two, also. Yes, the outside tribal seems excessive. I do, however, like the idea of the Chinese characters on the first two you posted. Maybe choose a personal word or saying and have that done below it. That would personalize it more, and make it more expressive.

yeh, that's the thing, I'd probably be more confident in having the tat artist design the tat cause he/she will be comfortable in doing it if they designed it. My neighbore knows a girl who is a great artist and does tats and said she'd be able to give me a discount, so I might go and work with her to see what she can do in design wise.

Tattoos have been around for a couple zillion years. So "lame fad" is an inaccuracy. I'm sure he appreciated your friendly, heartfelt response, however.


Hardhitter....if you really want a tattoo that ROCKS, get something like this. :D :D

Watch the yellows. That's one of the harder colors to laser off when you're older and the tattoo may have lost it's panache.

Obviously, I'm not a tattoo fan. If you want something ethnic, scope out some chinese art sites rather than getting a western-sourced tiger made chinese. Something like truemagellan's pic.

You know, instead of a tatoo, why not put that tiger design on the front hood of your 8? More people will see it....walking by, driving by, rear view mirror, etc...

i have to say that i respect the way you are looking at the tatoo. for your eyes only and not to be cool. Personaly im not a fan of tatoos but if i ever were to get one i would have a super small cross put near my heart and on my fore-arm, i want like... a triple tear, kinda like on rice, and in the tears it will have an american flag inside.

if someone could find a pic of somthing like this i would be GREATLY thankful. i have never seen it on anyone nor on the net lol. just wanna see what it would look like

If you want to do something for you and your culture, why a tatoo? Is there not something else you can do for the same result? I'm not necessarily against tatoos, but I'm trying to figure out how a tatoo will accomplish what you want where something else wouldn't?

Think about it long and hard, this is PERMANENT, don't be like an idiot friend of mine who got stupid stuf like "Bound 4 Glory" tatooed on himself and got a character done in red, then didn't keep it out of sunlight for the next few weeks and it faded to pink. I got mine when I was 18 too, during spring break my freshman yr of college. I still really like it, and I took excessively good care of it for the first month and a half. The red is still very red and it's as dark as when they put it on.

Also check the artist out before you go there. They're not all equal, some are good, some are hacks. Stay away from anyone under 30.

Well ... if you are in the maryland area i own two tattoo parlors .... and i have over 1,000 tigers to choose from ..... just make sure you get a legit clean tattoo and not some jack ass out of the house .... or "Party" tattoo

The tear drops would have to be large to put a flag in it ..... but i could deff draw one up for you ..... Also the cross i have around 1,000 crosses to choose .... But if i draw you up a tattoo i will not post on the net .... but it is possible

no no lol not a tear drop... ... i mean like rips.. like a tiger has ripped three strips down my fore-arm. like three claw marks with a little bit of skin left between each tear. sorry i made it seem like a tear drop.. that sound kinda weird.... anyway i hope that pic could help you show what i mean. the marks could be a bit wider than that though. and if you want you could send it to my mail i would be VERY thankful :) and if i like it enough i will drive to your shop when im 18 :D
