this is probably a FAQ item but I couldn't find anything in my 5 minute search :rolleyes:

There's a patch measuring some 25cm x 10cm on the forward section of both rear wheel guards. Does anyone know what they're for? There's also a patch on the underside, forward of the guard patch - are these something to do with the optional skirts that you can get from Mazda?

Just a couple of patches of stone guard plastic, for those areas subject to chipping from front tire rocks.

and... from memory, they are quite pricey to replace, for what it is.... i think i will just leave them off :D

That was one of my bug bears in buying the car... and brought it up with the dealer.

They are thin paper/plastic material which as stated protects. I was VERY disappointed in seeing them on the car. I asked the dealer, what happens when the ends fray or loose their colour. He said 'They are very sturdy and won't loose the colour or fade'

Yeah right! When I picked up my 8, I pointed out that one had slight loss of colour due to a paint chip on the edge. He 'couldn't' believe it. So when I take it back in and they are faded or frayed... he's replacing them free of charge.

Wear and tear yes, but if its not made correctly, and falls apart.. it's warranty. I wouldn't pay for them!!

It is for me able to see my wax collecting at that point.

Loss of colour??? I thought they are clear plastic. Some folk use the same stuff across there bumper as a chip protector.

Picked up my car yesterday following some minor body work that included replacement of the stone guard (rear offside). Got stung $28.20 for what is really just a shaped piece of contact. :mad:

Have to say though, she is looking the goods at the moment - not a scratch on her, freshly cleaned and detailed - gotta love the AAMI treatment. :) I fair dinkum nearly gave her a stroke after not having her for a week. The Boss would be jealous if she knew. :D :D

LOL :p Indeed they are clear plastic........ I've removed my ones and haven't suffered any adverse effects.

No way... mine is actually painted........!!!!!! Right.. Tomorrow I'm double checking!!!

For Removal - Standard Hair Dryer to heat up ??

Just pick at it and peel away. Remember to rewax the area thoroughly.
