I'm sat here watching the vid of RX-8's rolling of some ship somewhere in the US.

UK's delivery is delayed until Late OCTOBER!

Mazda Uk know nothing, some dealers have asked us on this forum to keep them informed.

No way would they treat any other market like this. Many are thinking of canceling, especialy as we'll be getting the cars right at the start of winter.

Chill. Some of us have been folowing the developement of this car since 1999. Here we are 3 years and still waiting. If the car was good enough to wait until now, it will be good enough when you take delivery in November.

Remember, the Canadians just trumped So. Cali in getting cars to dealers yesterday. Should the U.S. buyers throw a fit and cancel their pre-orders now???

Grow up.

Winter? You call that winter? It's more like a rainy season.... Winter is where it gets to -30C with a couple of feet of snow on the ground for several months. What you get is nothing for which to be deferring a car purchase. It's not like you're buying a Miata and going to miss out on top-down season, is it?

Gordon

I think the Canadian orders should go to the Brits!

Anyone second that?

Puppy1 - many people have to plan a buying a new car and timing can be important.

We have to organize funding, insurance, selling existing car (or trade in to dealer for poor $), problems with company car timings etc.

This delay has already caused a lot of inconvinience and also additional costs to people in the UK.

At least 3 out of 35ish have already canceled their preorder.

I'm glad I havnt took out a loan already, as I might have had the car been turning up in July as promised. That would be 4 months expensive payments on top of my current car loaf for a car I wont see until October/November.

All this whilst US/Japan recieve multiple shipments.

I know Europe/Uk isnt Mazda's prime market for this car, but were paying customers just like everyone else, and mazda will have had peoples deposits almost a year.

Whats even worse is mazda(uk's?) methods of dealing with customers, or lack of. We find out about the delay by a letter.

Its hidden in the middle of the letter right in between them telling us how great the car is and a feeble attempt to buy us off with some 'limited edition print'. No appology, no explanation or anything.

You lucky brit bastards ;) !

I ordered my RX-8 in February, with delivery date July/August, and the dealer told me, he will give me all new informations he gets...

..and that's it. I haven't heard a single word from my dealer, and haven't got an answer on my e-mail I sent to Mazda Germany for weeks ago. My Jaguar X-Type is already sold and driving around in Russia, so I have to wait for three or four month to get my new car.

All I have left is my little Lotus, it's great to drive now, but in October it's getting hard to use it as a everyday's car :(

Maybe I have to have a closer look on a Alfa 156 GTA...

1. Will my company pay for this?
2. What are the residuals?
3. Gas mileage.

While on the U.S forums the only concern that is raised occasionally is the gas issue. Obviously, I do not share some of your same concerns, therefore I am not as sympothetic to your plight. But here is what I was going to do if my current vehicle didn't make it until the car arrived:

Buy a junker transportation car for cash (US$1,000) and then when the 8 was ready, turn around and sell it for the exact same amount. Sure its a little embarassing for a while, but when you get the new car, it will be all worth it. No net loss, No need for a loan.

I have almost 475,000km (295k miles) on my current 1992 car. The auto transmission slips, the powersteering is going out, the CV joints now make noise even when I'm going straight. I didn't think it would make it, but now I'm only 3 weeks away from getting my 8.

Time passes quickly, if the delay is really messing up your plans, buy something else. I'm sure in 3 years when you are ready for your next car, there will be an even better 8 waiting for you.

"1. Will my company pay for this?"
No concern of mine, not a company car. Although with lowish expected residuals and a high tzx bracket because of its emmisions the RX-8 may not be a cheap company car.

"2. What are the residuals?"
We all take a hit on new cars, but how much? Expected residuals are somewhere in the low 40% for 3 years.

Thats £14000 lost in 3 years, or the price of a new civic type-R.

"3. Gas mileage."

You say this is an issie in the US? lol. 'Gas' here is at least 4 times the cost it is in the us.

£0.75- 0.80 a litre atm. that works out to about $5 per gallon. how much do you play?

Yes, we get off very easy in this department. Believe it or not, water costs far more than gas.

BUT... I've always wanted to see gas @ $5/gallon here so that people who can't afford insurance would never drive and that people would stop buying SUV's.:o
