Renesis08 06-24-2003, 12:50 AM That took for ever to load and I have a P4 2.4ghz and on cable. Anyways... it seems Canada has beat us Southern Californians. So are Canadians required to have the headlight washers? Nice pix!

They are expecting 170 units to arrive next week. Hopefully one is my order....

rxtreme 06-24-2003, 06:18 AM Who's that FREAK leaning on the black RX-8 that was supposed to be mine!
ffjaydee 06-24-2003, 06:24 AM Great to see our cars finally coming in! Where are these pictures taken from? Is it the docks or a holding compound? How many are to be unloaded at this time and when are more expected?
I am just an impatient RX-8 owner from Ontario waiting for his Titanium GT w/moonroof to get here!!
Thanks for all your help!

JaxFL_RX8 06-24-2003, 06:48 AM What's with those hideous license plate holders on the front? Are those mandatory in Canada? I've asked my dealer to NOT put any plate on the front, but I can't tell if those holders are port installed or they came that way off the boat.
FritzMan 06-24-2003, 07:11 AM I believe front plates are required in every province except Quebec. Living in Ontario, within 5 miutes of Quebec, I tired to get away without a front plate on my FD and was pulled over. Thankfully, my "front plate broke and is on order" saved me from a ticket, but I put the plate on shortly afterwards.

Alberta only requires a rear plate (since ~1990). The Motor Vehicles Registry offices only issue a single plate when you register a car.
All Canadian RX-8s have the headlight washers as standard equipment.
WHERE'S MINE??!! ;)

That FREAK would be me and if your not nice I will post the pictures of me driving YOUR car...:p :D
Yes it does handle well..
That picture is the back lot at the dealer. There are suppose to be 170 Canadian cars arriving at Port in the next 2 weeks.
rxtreme 06-24-2003, 11:21 AM Jeez, what a way to rub salt in the wound
;)
I just said it because I'm jealous and impatiently waiting for my car.
digi168 06-24-2003, 11:33 AM I know...:D no worries, it is all fun, at least I have been able to drive one, now I want mine even more....

Wait! You've been able to drive one! So dealers are letting anyone drive cars that are pre-sold? Or is there a dealer specific car that is not to be sold, and used for test drives only?
My dealer better not let anyone drive my car!!!
digi168 06-24-2003, 02:06 PM The black one in the picture is destined to do duty as a press car, that is why I got to take it for a quick spin...:D
In the right place at the right time...
So I guess those cars came through Vancouver then? Sort of amusing (in a maddening sort of way) that we all thought our So. Cal guys were going to be first. Completely forgot about you lucky Cannuks! :)
LiQuiDLaM 06-24-2003, 05:20 PM After taking a closer look at the pix, i notice the headlight washers are really starting to stand out now! You can clearly see the bulge from below the headlights! I didn't notice anything like it til now! None of the Japanese pics i've seen has 'em and I'm wondering whether you guys in the U.S are gonna get 'em! It's standard here in Canada! Not that it really affects the overall look but i'd rather not have them! :o

From every indication I've seen or read, the headlight washers are not on the US spec'd cars. I'm on the other side of the fence, I'd RATHER have them on mine.
I wonder how hard it would be to add those? For one, you probably have to change out the bumper. $$$
scmiata1990 06-26-2003, 12:33 PM In discussion with Kieswetter Mazda in Kitchener,
(one of Canada's largest dealers), the cars pictured
above are press cars.
The dealer also noted that cars will be released across
the country on the same date, likely in mid July. All dealers
must have at least one car before the RX8 is released to the
public.

Silver 6 speed GS
digi168 06-26-2003, 01:11 PM Having been able to see and touch the cars in person, and the black one running around town with a personallized plate
GR8-RX8
I beleive that, one is a press car and one is being driven by a Mazda Canada Employee...
Also, the line about all dealers must have at least one car before they are released, is crap.
This another turn and burn program from Mazda, first batch is being allocated meaning some dealers won't get any.
Just like the MazdaSpeed, they were selling them to customers, ( I know I had the first one released to the public) before the majority of them even left port, there are still about 200 of them sitting at port in Richmond.
Expected delivery is 2nd to 3rd week in July.
TybeeRX-8 06-26-2003, 03:27 PM Hey, it looks like the Canadians get headlight washers! That isn't even an available option in the US!

You want those? I rather have them without. It throws off the smooth lines of the car.

Me neither. But I do intend to drive the car year-round, and in regions of the world that have more than 1 season, that means driving in snow and slush, which means road spray that cruds up the headlights very quickly. Headlight washers make the difference between stopping on the side of the road every 20 minutes to wipe off the lights and being able to see properly when travelling on the highway after sunset. Skiers like me are especially appreciative of this option.

Gordon
HalleysComet 06-26-2003, 11:28 PM You saw the black and red 8 in person.
Tell me, in your opinion which was the better looking color on the 8?
I have heard from my father that the red color is not the color I am thinking it is. He said it looks nice but is not the typical red shade that is seen on most sports cars. The black seems beautiful in just about every photo I've seen of it. I'd love to hear your comments on the two colors now that you've seen them up close.
akrx8 06-27-2003, 12:20 AM well i wish us amercians were givin the headlight washer option,if i lived in az or cali then no but in my "undeveloped"49th state up north they would be very useful come breakup season.
digi168 06-27-2003, 12:29 AM The red is a VERY metallic scarlet color, only looks good in direct sunlight, other wise it looks kind of dull.
Like the orange MSP, looks really good in the sun but not so good in the shade or under artificial light.
HalleysComet 06-27-2003, 06:58 AM What about the black? Does it look as good in person on the 8 as it does in the photos? Also, do you think it takes away from the grill or anything else?
Thanks for the info on the red.
Everytime I've seen a photo of the 8 in red it looked to be a different shade (due to lighting, I'm sure).
Some pictures of it in that shade look fabulous, and some not so great. I could never get a good feel for the true color. My father had has seen it in red, and he was the one who first told me that it is a different looking shade of red and not the shade I was probably thinking it was. He didn't say it was not attractive on the 8, he just said it was not the typical red shade normally seen on sports cars, like I was probably assuming it was. (which didn't help me out much, lol)

But remember I am a laid back Southern Californian. The snow in our mountians is sprayed on durning cold nights only where it is needed and not in the streets.
That is why I was so naive about people in other parts of the u.s. who have to deal with inclement weather.
Apologies to all.:(
digi168 06-27-2003, 02:49 PM The black looks like black. Standard color, not a really deep black, just black...it does look good.
I am waiting for Winning Blue...:D
rxeightr 06-27-2003, 02:58 PM I am waiting for Winning Blue...
Having seen the Blue, it will not disappoint. Glad that it was my pick.
The black looks sweet with the tan leather. Ummmm drool
