My new salesperson just called me and told me that all the cars that come off the boat must be quarantined for ten days!

ppl coming from Asia are quarantined for 10 days meaning when they arrive they have to be checked by a physician...after 10 days, they need to return to be checked again...in between that time, they can move freely about but a lot of companies can deny them access to their facilities if they feel that the person could be threat...

as for cars, i highly doubt it...the SARS virus supposedly can only live a few hours outside of a host (last i heard on the news)...a virus needs a host to manifest itself and a car is not a living organism for it to thrive in...i'm sure all the cars would need is a Lysol spray

besides, there were very few cases coming from Japan...most came from China and Hong Kong

I don't think he was refering to any kind of disease quarantine. I almost ordered a BMW last year and did the European Delivery. I fly over there and pick it up and drive around europe, when I'm done I drop it off at a port and they ship it to the US. The sticky part was that once it got to the US customs would hold the vehicle for 7-14 days before it could be shipped via truck to me. I'm sure it's the same situation for all products entering the US. Except perishables maybe.

Actually, I don't think that is correct. My sources at the Port of Tacoma would have mentioned that to me. They were going to allow a Port P/U by my dealer, but the request was denied by Mazda Corporate. Had all things gone as planned, I was going to have my car this Friday. I talked to them again today and they said that a team from Japan was at the facility today (and there was a similar team at Port Hueneme) and they were going to take the next 4 days (Monday thru Thursday) to go over each car. They were not releasing cars one by one, but as a group. My contacts are very anxiuos to get the cars processed and distributed. If there was a quarantine, they would have told me. They do however, have to sit in the Foreign Trade ZOne prior to the installation of Port Installed Options. They were expecting this team, but were originally thinking that they would take one day, then they were going to start on the cars on Tuesday, now it is Friday.

I thought that the quarantine thing was funny, I didn't mean for people to think it was a fact.
Sometimes salespeople say funny things.

It is kinda funny, but when you read your original post it sounds like you were buying it. With just typed words to look at how could anybody know?
