"N" flash (SSP61) on HOLD???
Yesterday I used my dealer's website to submit a service request for next week. I wanted the N flash, the AC amplifier, a new battery, and the plastic clip on the centre console track to be replaced.
I got this e-mail back from them this morning:
What the hell? Is this true? Anyone else been told this?
I got this e-mail back from them this morning:
Good Morning,
The SSP61 reflash has been put on hold by Mazda Canada until they update it a little more. We can definitely get you on on Monday to check the other stuff. If that works ok for you just email back and let me know.

What is an N Flash and what does it do ?
Is it just a Canada thing ?

Which dealer?...I had the flash done at Sunridge.
The N Flash was on hold back in January, so I didn't get it at my last visit at Kramer then - but it's not on hold anymore! North Hill might be having WDS problems...
(For idriverx8 - no, the PCM flashes are not a Canada thing, they apply to all RX-8 and most recently introduced Mazda vehicles. It's how Mazda can update the Powertrain Control Module software programming on vehicles already in service. There are many threads, including a few sticky threads, discussing Flashes in the Tech Discussion forum section).

Gordon

Update: I just got a call from North Hill, where my baby's getting the summer wheels and tires back. They still can't do the N flash. I think I'll wait until the next oil change, and if they don't have it by then, I'll go to Kramer.
Yea, I called them last Friday and they told me that it'll be roughly a month before they get it going again. Not sure if their computers are screwy or that they are holding something secret that the other two dealers don't know about. I'm thinking it's the N.O.2 (get it? NO2 is nitous oxide ... yes lame) flash that's supposed to restore HP to racing specs. Heh heh.
So for those of you that HAVEN'T upgraded to the N flash (ssp61), North Hill FINALLY has their computers up and running again.
I got the upgrade today and according to my ***-dyno, it certainly does feel like there is a bit more "pull" at the lower RPMs (as many people have mentioned). Then again, it could be my ECU being reset and the swap to summer tires that made me think that the car feels different.

I had mine done about 2 weeks now. To be honest, I can't really tell any difference in power or in improved mileage as some people have mentioned. I think it did improve the 6000RPM power dip though.
FWIW.
FWIW.
