i've read some pretty scathing comments regarding clear lake mazda's service dept, but i was wondering if a simple pcm flash would be alright to go to them for. it's barely 15min away from my house, and i'd hate to have to drive a great distance to get this done.

 

You really can't mess that up, so I am sure you would be fine going there for just a flash.

 

When did the N flash come out and what does it do?

 

To be honest I wouldn't take ANYTHING to Mazda of Clear Lake. Not only have I heard a bunch of bad stories about them, but I have been lied to and given the run-around by that dealership several times. Now I only take my car to Jeff Haas Mazda on I-10 even though it's at least another 15 minutes worth of driving for me.
