OK so its not a rotary but its not for me.

Have bought that Eunos 800SP (For my Dad) at the recent Mazford auction. After reading plenty of internet info on them I have come to the following conclusions & thus a few questions.

The 2.3l V6 engine runs a Lysholm supercharger from IHI as standard.

The superchargers can fail as soon as 50k km & with 140k km on the clock of this thing, I am not too confident on it when I do get it going. (And we thought the 13B-REW + 20B-REW twin Hitachi turbo's where bad!!)

C.A.P.A & others wont recondition superchargers (strange, they sell them but wont service them )

PSE in the USA will but at $3300 its way too pricey.

Does anyone know of a company here in Australia that ACTUALLY does recondition Superchargers...........???

So what do that reckon wears out on them?

There is a set of gears at the "front", along with the bearings that sit in an oil bath, and a set of bearings at the rear that are generally sealed. The rotor and housings don't touch each other, and I guess would be something you can't just re-machine.

Cheers,
Hymee.

G'day Hymee

The main parts that fail on these superchargers are in the support bearings. Thats where all blowers give trouble over time.

Just that the IHI ones where too girly for the punishment.

So reconditioning them would mainly be a matter of replacing the bearings?

What do Mazda do with these when they are up for it?

Cheers,
Hymee.

Surely you would know by now. This is mazda Australia you are reffering too.

They throw the original blower away & sell you a new one with over $5k slugged from your wallet for the convenience..............

Have since found a company here in Sydney that has done several of the Lysholm compressors from the Volvo's. He says he can do the IHI ones aswell for around $1000.

Eunos 800sp must be the same as the USDM Mazda Millenia S--I have had two and have not had a problem with the supercharger failing.
