I visited Rosenthal today and they had 5 or 6 2004s left over. I told the guy I was really interested in a used RX8 but I could be convinced to buy new if it was a real steal. We didn't get to numbers (I had no time for it), but the cars were all fairly options-loaded. I really don't need or want navigation, nor do I need the touring package; but all but one car had the touring package, and the one that didn't had navigation!

What would be a fair opening offer?

Based on my experience, If you want to include the 4000 cash back and 500 gerber rebates in the price, try asking ~25,000 for one w/nav and ~23,000 for one without

Check out $500 Gerber Rebate (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=53584) thread in this section, or the Search (http://www.rx8club.com/search.php?) function of this site may have more info. ;)

Go to carsdirect.com and equip an 05 8 with the options of the car you are interested in. Take off about $500 from the shown invoice price (the 05s went up over the 04s). Take off $5,000 from that i(nvoice - $500) price and offer that. Go no higher than that invoice - $500 - $4,000. Since the dealer is getting $4,000 back on each car and you want to pay no more than dealer invoice less the $4,000 for the car. Dealers have offered me cars for $5,000 to $4,500 off of invoice without any problems.
