View Full Version : Leave Port - On Water - On Port - At Dealer!

.......Since cars are starting to show up in the states, I thought it might be a good idea to create routing times for deliveries to different areas. This way, buyers will have an idea at to when to realistically expect getting their vehicles.

What's the time length for "in transit" for:
Pt. Hueneme?
Taicoma WA?
East Coast?

What's the time length for "On Port" to the dealerships? (I know that some cars are delivered by train, etc.). It still would be interesting to create the strings for future buyers.

Anybody have input on this one?

My dealership says 3 weeks to get to St. Louis from the Tacoma port. By truck, that is.

The word from the dealership is about all I have to go on though.

How in the world could it possibly take 3 weeks to get from Tacoma to St. Louis? Three or four days maybe -- but three weeks

I have got to think that vehicle delivery trucks travel at the same speed and route as regular freight -- they can't afford to have a truck out for three weeks just going from west coast to the midwest. These trucks carry what -- 8 or 10 cars -- so they must be loaded so that they deliver to a similar area. There are six 1st allocation pre-orders in the city of Omaha (three dealers) so I figure there are nine cars coming to Omaha (six pre-orders and three dealer demo cars) -- this should pretty well fill one truck so it should come straight here from Tacoma -- three or four days from leaving the port.

I don't think they are saying 3 weeks "travel". Work still has to be done to the cars at the Port of Entry or the Intermediate Port before they are released for delivery. And once they ARE released, there is no guarantee a truck is going to load them up and drive off the same day. Depending on trucking schedules, some cars could be waiting several days to leave the port.

And despite what my dealer and some others have said, I bet our east coast cars have not arrived yet. We would all be greatful if our cars are delivered in 3 weeks.;)

does anyone know if EVERY Mazda dealer will receive a first allocation car??? or is there reason to believe that some are not on the ball and will not be getting any until much later this year????

just curious....

I guess I should have been a little more clear.

Yes....not 3 weeks to drive. By the time the boat gets into the port it could take about 3 weeks after all of the port installed options are on, and they have all of the cars done that are heading this way on that particluar truck.

I actually thought it would take longer, so I was pleased to hear 3 weeks!

They told me that they offload the cars from the ship and park them in a big lot. Then they run the cars into the building in a certain order to have everything installed. I have no idea what logic or process they follow as to whose car is first, and whose is last. I would assume it would depend on what all accessories you ordered, and what options package you got. For that matter, your car could be one of the first ones finished at port, go back on the lot, and then be one of the last ones to be loaded on a truck.

I'm still trying to figure out what all of the port installed options are. The only thing that I have gotten any confirmation on yet is the stereo. Do all of the accessories get added at port? I'm guessing so because of the fact that we can't get the lip spoiler here in the US like they can in the UK.....which sucks by the way. Anybody else know what gets added at port?

Port installed options should be all of those added to the RX-8 order site after most of us had already ordered the car. I think that was in Arpril. So that would be the aero package, rotary accents, 6CD, spoiler, etc. Most if not all of these options could also be added at the dealer to cars that are received without the options. But it is easier to have it done at the port (and possibly less expensive). Particulary for parts that need to match the car color.
