Job:
ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST,GS - 0301 - xx

Location:
KABUL / AFGHANISTAN

Status:
2005-03-28 - Your resume has been referred to the selecting official for consideration for this vacancy

I'd lose a bit of $ by losing my current 15% locality pay, but I'd get a 10% (of base salary) bonus to help...plus I suspect the pay would be free from federal taxes.

But wow...the EXPERIENCE would be invaluable. I'd be there for 6 months, 'on loan' to the Army Corps of Engineers.

I can't imagine too many people are volunteering for an assignment there; I really am hoping I get selected.

I am not. I work as a Program manager for the Strategic Planning office of Fort Lewis, WA.

Wouldn't you miss your wife/kids (if any)? Would your job just rehire you when you come back?

The real question is:

Would you still visit rx8club.com as frequently from your new job/location? :D

As I'm currently a Dept of Army civilian employee, I'd be 'on loan' to the Corps of Engineers with full return rights back to this job.

I'd miss my wife and kids quite a bit. To me, it's worth the sacrifice for two reasons, mostly to show my kids that missing one's loved ones isn't an excuse to not do what you feel is right, and for the chance to work as part of something bigger than myself...a part of history; to look back when I'm 80 yrs old, and talking to my Grandkids about this time in the world...to be able to say 'I was there.' If I get the assignment and God calls me home, my Kids will be able to sit with their kids and say 'Your Grand Daddy was there.'

Not likely as frequently...but at least sometimes...lest the Liberals/socialists over-run the lounge!

hehe :D
