It's not supposed to be on sale until Monday (which is when Microsoft is officially releasing PocketPC 2003). The iPAQ 2215 is vastly better than my old Toshiba e740, and much, much smaller and lighter and faster. Best of all I didn't have to pay for it - did a straight swap for my year-old Toshiba at Best Buy thanks to special warranty plan.

HP iPAQ 2215 Pocket PC (h2215):
400 Mhz Intel Xscale cpu (PXA 255)
64 MB RAM (56 MB useable)
32 MB ROM (inc 3.8MB File Store)
3.5" transflective TFT display, 64k colours
Dual expansion (SDIO and CFII)
Bluetooth (v1.1) and Infrared connectivity built in
Universal Remote Control functionality
Integrated microphone, speaker and stereo headset jack
USB desktop cradle and charger
900mAH lithium ion removable/rechargeable battery
Pocket PC 2003 (first device available with this)
ActiveSync v3.7
etc

Well worth the $399 price that I didn't pay.

Anyone else into gadgets like this?

The only thing it's missing is PalmOS. ;)

I've been thinking about upgrading my Visor Prism, probably to one of the new Sonys. It'll probably have to wait until Christmas, though; the RX-8 is going to exhaust my toy budget for a while.

Wait for PalmOS6 due in a few months (certainly by Christmas) - even to a PPC diehard like me (on my 4th Microsoft OS PDA) the specs for OS6 sound amazing and probably put it ahead of Microsoft's PocketPC for the first time (Microsoft have barely touched the surface features of their OS in 3 years - things like screen resolution are now worse than Palm and Docs-to-Go has better Word/Excel compatibility than Microsoft's Pocket Office). Check out www.brighthand.com for more info.

I just ditched my old iPAQ and got a Kyocera 7135 PDA phone ($299). I guess I got tired of keeing track of two gizmos. I have been overjoyed with the switch and like the RX-8 it is a compromise machine but it should looks great and has amazing handling -- now if I could only get it to spin at 9000 rpm :D

i've just be given a new blackberry 6510. along with it's pda ability and it's wireless email and web browsing it is also a nextel phone with nextel's direct connect walkie talkie features. boss just gave it to me yesterday. i am allowed to use it for all of my personal stuff as well as business, the bad news is the boss says i have to wear it all the time, even on my days off so that he can contact me if there is a problem.:( i haven't tried to get to the forum yet with it but i will try it soon;)

Hey zoom, can you load your own software on a blackberry like you can with a Palm or PPC? I'm a Palm diehard and looking to upgrade from my old, beatup Vx. I have to admit Blackberry handles email better than about anybody (and is the only Exchange support my employer offers.) But I hold off buying a BB cuz I like adding my own software to do whatever.

i haven't tried it yet but there is an icon in the desktop manager software that is called "application loader" which i think does this function. i have only had it since thursday or friday and haven't had much time to fiddle with it or read the manual. but i will try shortly as i had some games in my palm pilot and would like to see if there are versions that will run on the blackberry.
