View Full Version : Insurance Quote
simrjor 06-19-2003, 05:07 PM Hi Power from Egg
£ 425.25 with £100 excess, Fully Comp, 9 Yrs NCB, Age 35, no NCB Protection, Garaged.
Elephant quoted £498.75
Tried Direct Line system unable to give price
AndyPearce 06-19-2003, 05:45 PM Nice - I'm 34 with 10 years NCD so I expect I'll pay a similar if not better price - good news!:D
Stu C 06-19-2003, 06:20 PM All of us 30 somethings with full NCB etc should do well....
Cheaper than my current car too.....which is ironic as the rx8 is a little bit faster....no difference RE airbags, sidebars etc - just 4 doors v 2
STU
MarkW 06-20-2003, 02:03 AM That's just over half what I pay now, so I will be well pleased if I can get a quote of around £400 :)
Edit-
Well I just got a quote from www.egg.com for £548.05 which I probably would have been pleased with if I hadnt seen the £425 figure.
Thats for me and wife, 38 and 34, max no claims, garaged and a £250 compulsory excess and a £150 voluntary excess.
BTW - Tried tescos, but RX8 not listed yet.
shahpor 06-20-2003, 02:45 AM Egg and Directline wouldn't quote me online.
However, www.elephant.co.uk would and it came out at £1895.
That is actually not a bad quote for me.
25 years old, 1 year NCB, 1 claim, living in London.
Quite pleased with that as it is less than I am currently paying! :)
Shahpor
jimbobjoe 06-20-2003, 02:52 AM I've just had a look at egg as well.
33 years old. Full no claims etc.
Living in Guildford, parked on driveway.
£250 compulsory excess plus £150 voluntary excess. 12000 miles per year....
Including legal cover plus protected no claims = £616
Without legal or protected NCD it drops to £509
Not bad at all. I think direct line might do better for me as they are my current insurer. But I was hoping to get it down to £600. So spot on really.:D

Was that with NCB protection? mine was without. The area you live in abit rough?
jimbobjoe 06-20-2003, 02:59 AM and from elephant £562 with protected NCD (total £400 excess)...
getting better:D
RobDickinson 06-20-2003, 03:06 AM Just got an £850 quote from egg, 32, 5y ncd, no protection (that was £150 pa!).
Not to bad...

Yes that was with NCB protection, so maybe that accounts for a lot of it.
I live in Solihull which is one of the most expensive areas to live in the midlands, I definately wouldnt call it rough :) Also, I had the car down as garaged.
Just Checked - If I take of protected NCD it comes down to £468.
AndyPearce 06-20-2003, 03:17 AM Egg kept coming up with an error but elephant quoted me
£490 - protected NCD with £150 excess - it's only £6 more expensive than my current policy. I expect my current insurer to change the car ion the policy for no extra charge.:)
cw007 06-20-2003, 05:25 AM My current insurer, Admiral.
Have quoted me 860 quid!!!!!!
Thats 6 yrs NCB plus the wife. 35 yr old living in WD (watford post code)
egg quoted me 486 quid.
Looks like im going to change insurance.
cw007 06-20-2003, 05:31 AM ONe thing to note as well,
Companies like Admiral will not insure you for factory fitted options, i.e. sunroof/sat nav leather.
Will only insure you for the basic value of car.
cw007 06-20-2003, 05:37 AM hell 3 points speeding on your license almost accounts for about 100 quid in an insurance quote.
Current;
Elephant, TT 225, 30 years old, 6 points (now 3), IAM licence, 5 yrs NCB, West London, kept outside: 1200
to switch today it would drop by about 50 quid, which is better than a kick in the goolies.
Looks like Egg are trying hard to win business. My renewal is in Sept so hopefully new car will come just b4...
PS.
"Companies like Admiral will not insure you for factory fitted options, i.e. sunroof/sat nav leather.

Surely that isnt legal. I've never heard that - In the event of loss you must be compensated to replace the car. I'd not use them if this is true. Fair enough if you had put accessories on, and not told them. But how can they not cinlude something that was part of the purchase price of a new car???!
cw007 06-20-2003, 08:29 AM I argued with them over that one Ed..
Stating that this is factory fitted but she claimed that it deviated from the basic car and the quote i got was for the basic 22 grand car not with the 3 grand options.
On the other hand....
Norwich Union (dont have the rx8 on there books yet asked the same question) and replied with dont worry these are not what they classify "modifications" as these are factory fitted options.
If we all ran around in admiral insured cars then it would be wheelbarrows we would be driving. I for one will be changing.
cw007 06-20-2003, 08:34 AM As a slight deviation from the main thread....
Just been quoted by 3 different insurers and its looking like the rx8 is going to be cheaper to insure than my 3 year old IS200!!!!!!!
Quote me happy..... didnt quite make me happy 741 quid.
tried egg on the basis of your comments guys.
after about a dozen attempts (their server kept kicking me out) got a quote of £1430, 27 yo, 7 year no claim, no convictions, no accidents.
problem appears to be post code, G1 (even with a garage)
tried my brothers flat, 27 miles away, halved the premium!
c170673 06-23-2003, 02:06 AM 30 years old (just) 5 years NCB, 2 claims in last 5 years (1 fully recovered)
Tried Egg - £622
Not bad, I was expecting more, but I think I will still try and shop around.
Chris
cw007 06-23-2003, 04:17 AM elephant quoted me 516 quid, no voluntary excess with a 150 pound compulsory. Thats with 6 years no claims and protected.
Contigo 06-23-2003, 10:35 AM 26yr old 3Yrs NCB £681.45
Well happy with that!
I just don't undersand how my post code can be making that much of a difference!!

Direct line = £535, including protected NCD, legal cover, plus guaranteed hire car. Now that is quite good (although they can act like muppets when they want to.......)
I see no mention of a tracker anywhere in these quotes. Are these all tracker free quotes and would they be cheaper if tracker installed?
rael.

All the online quote systems have not made trackers mandatory.
Very glad to hear that as earlier that was a fear considering the newness and initial rarety of the car.
Presumably having a tracker fitted would reduce premiums.

Yes it would but not many online quote systems can take it into consideration. When I've investigated it in the past the cost of the tracker is more than the saving on insurance but I suspect you do get that extra peace of mind with a tracker. I'm seriously considering getting a tracker for the first time with the RX8 (if I hang on for the car!)
c170673 07-04-2003, 05:29 AM Just had a quote from Direct Line, my current insurer of £451, which compares very favourably to the £622 I was quoted by Egg.
