View Full Version : RX8 parts in Australia
garthurs 03-20-2005, 04:59 AM Does anybody know where you can get RX8 accessories in Australia?
The official Mazda web site prices are astronomical compared to lots of OS sites. The cheapest web site I have found is Trussville Mazda in the US but they are not geared up for export to Australia. Any ideas guys? I have only had my car for 1 week.
mikeyr 03-20-2005, 05:07 AM Hi,
In Aus, no?
www.japanparts.com gets a good rating from many. Depends what you are after.
M
takahashi 03-20-2005, 06:44 AM Try NZ or www.japanparts.com. Directly from Japan.
Oh mike did suggest that. Oh well :D
Welcome to the club
EDIT: Your first name is not Gordon is it? I know of a Dr. Gordon Arthurs.
garthurs 03-20-2005, 07:48 AM No. It is actually Geoff Arthurson. The parts on that japanese site are also pretty pricy. The australian mazda.com.au site also seems expensive compared to US and UK prices. I guess why some call the car the Mazda RXPENSIVE!
Choppy 03-20-2005, 06:03 PM Mazda RXPENSIVE! never heard that one before and obviously you never owned a BMW before either ;) hehe
Regards
Phillip
garthurs 03-20-2005, 10:45 PM Actually I have! As well as a Morris a Datsun, an Alfa, a Nissan, a Toyota, 3 Hondas, a Mitsubishi, an MG, a Volvo, a Lexus and a Mercedes!
Scotty 03-20-2005, 11:50 PM I used www.mazdastuff.com a couple of times - bought a metal fuel filler door for US$77, some door guards and splash guards, in seperate orders - all under A$250 per order.
Worked out fairly resonably priced but they use UPS who charge a fortune (~$80 for electronic import processing) on top of normal shipping, even when there should be no GST or import duty for items under A$250 and they could just lodge the items under informal import documentation.
FEDEX are better - they dont charge extra for items which dont need formal paperwork.
Now that the travellers import rules have changed the best way to do it is find someone who is travelling to the US and get them to carry your items back. (Can bring back A$900 wihtout import duties)
takahashi 03-21-2005, 12:13 AM EMS is the best and usually the cheapest to ship.
UPS charge a fortune and most Mazda in US will not go for USPS which is much much cheaper.
You can get someone to buy the item and ship via USPS.
What parts are you exactly looking for Geoff?
I can tell you now forget body kit (Mazda factory skirt). They are not worth buying overseas. The shipment cost will be the same as the item itself.
Better go for small item like the rear reflector, side reflector only. Or gear knob, B pillar garnish, etc.
I ship an oil cooler and it only cost $80 AUD.
garthurs 03-21-2005, 02:49 AM I am not really sure yet. have only had the car for 1 week. I have ordered some strakes from the UK (on ebay) and need some mats, and I like the polished fuel lid and the front and back rotary symbols and maybe the illuminated gearshift - it would be nice if it told you what gear you are in - sometimes I do not know if I am in 4th or 6th. I had this problem with my Lexus too. The other thing I want to get are front and back proximity sensors.
I am not big on body kits. I actually prefer the cars without them.
mikeyr 03-21-2005, 03:09 AM As Taka says the prices are usually only worth it for either smaller items or multiples which you can share around.
You can also try these guys http://www.canterburymazda.co.nz/parts-and-accessories/
It's a NZ dealer who brings in Mazdaspeed etc, I haven't purchesed from them yet but their prices were quite a bit better than Japanparts including postage.
Best off luck, must be fun belting around the Valley and Hills! Did 3 yrs at SA Brewing way back!
Cheers
takahashi 03-21-2005, 03:57 AM Some tips Geoff,
Mats - well the best is from Sydney (ask nojooc that you can get one free ;))
Stakes - I think Japanparts is quite cheap.
Polished lit - I gave up on it since it is a tin replacement of my body colour lit. I like the one that Rosenthal in US carries (they made their own) but it is UPS.
Illuminated gear shift - there I think you should go back to dealer. Since there are so many owners have problem with broken leads to the light bulb (with usage - wear and tear due to rubbing). I think you can get warranty if you buy that with dealer.
By the way, illuminated knob does NOT SHOW which gear you are in, it is simply a standard knob with a light bulb ;). Better practice shifting then. 4th is directly under neutral and 6th is a bit on the right. I don't have problem even in my short shifter.
RXE16T 03-21-2005, 04:34 AM Some tips Geoff,
Mats - well the best is from Sydney (ask nojooc that you can get one free ;))
 Why are the Sydney ones the best? And what does 'free' mean? :D
takahashi 03-21-2005, 05:04 AM hahaha.... You should be giving free mats for your RX-8 customers right man? :D
Even I preorder the car before launch, I get a lousey set from Mazda Australia.
EmperorJazzy 03-21-2005, 05:49 AM Speaking of parts... I'm currently researching to find THE CHEAPEST Fender Strakes.... I should check out this NZ mob. Unless someone knows exactly where to go?
auzoom 03-21-2005, 06:32 AM Hey I want one of these....
http://www.canterburymazda.co.nz/parts-and-accessories/images/ROTPENH.jpg
But seriously, I am still trying to get a response on shipping from SR Motorsports but hey appear cheap (without shipping) http://www.srmotorsports.com/RX8_Performance_Body_Parts.html
Andrew
takahashi 03-21-2005, 03:36 PM What $1499 US for front spoiler is cheap?
I don't think so. Plus Rotary extreme quoted me to ship just the MazdaSpeed wing for US$800. I said no thanks. I could nearly have a plane ticket and bring it back myself. LOL
Look for Asia/Australia people. If you want copy kit, www.xspeed.com.au in WA has them. It is still too far to chase them down if it does not fit.
auzoom 03-22-2005, 02:23 AM Hmmm I didn't actually check the prices for the body kits... I was more looking at things like the fender strakes, crests, etc. at current rates a pair of strakes is 200$AUD cheaper than Mazda Australia are quoting.
Andrew
mikeyr 03-22-2005, 02:35 AM I bought the D Manic copy accents (Fr & Rr) about 6 months ago and while not 100%, about 95% (a couple of tiny imperfections).
Have stood up well to stones etc. Much cheaper than the Mazda parts.
See the vendor forum, dls custom i think now.
Mike
The following were some price's i got in NZ, NZ$. Think maestro has a contact that can do a little better on the mazda parts.
With Hymee exhaust, shifter and swaybars on the way, my play money is a bit short!!
Mazdaspeed Parts
Side skirt $1652.90 + gst
Air filter element $ 85.91 + gst
Frt swaybar $ 485.20 + gst
Bushes for frt bar $ 8.20 + gst each need 2
Rr sawy bar $ 449.25 + gst
Bushes for Rr bar $ 4.38 + gst each need 2
Aero Kit parts
Side skirt $464.83 + gst
Frt air dam $595.67 + gst
Rr under deflector $350.66 + gst
takahashi 03-22-2005, 05:49 AM Why do you need the brushes for the sway bars when you have the Type S suspension? My standard bushes are big enough for the sways. I contacted japanparts about it before shipping, and they responded that only the Japan std RX-8 and the Type E needs them. If you have the 330mm (big rotor), you WILL have the sport suspension of the Type S. Hence, no need for bushes.
So am I reading that NZ have an inferior suspension than the Australian version?
ILIV48 03-22-2005, 06:35 AM The bushes that came off of my car are just a rubber compound. If you talk to most suspension specialists the rubber bush is inferior to a urethane bush(spelling ????).
If I remember correctly the rubber softens response because of distortion under load while the urethane bush does not suffer the same distortion and therefor gives a more instant & true response or some shit like that :D :D
Said it before & will say it again
All your RX-8 goodies can be bought through the spare parts Mgr at Gosford Mazda.
Forum member "Darrin Ray" .....................aka DAZ-13B
Tell him your on the RX-8 forum & he will look after you
Plain & simple, no crap

takahashi 03-22-2005, 05:11 PM oh.... yeah that is where AlfredOz has got his nice mat from....
I think you are right too Stuart about the brushes. There are so many thing you could change in a car :p e.g. CF bits. j/k. Seriously there is a real leather gear boot offering by PoLak in the US (shipping is US$6 and boot is US$40 with the choice of 7 colours and 5 stitch colours). http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=56004
There is something you don't see in the RX-8 option list :p
garthurs 03-22-2005, 06:58 PM Checkout Ebay the UK site - they make the stakes themselves for 65 pounds. Even with freight to Australia it comes to much less than other sites.
takahashi 03-22-2005, 07:38 PM I wonder how much Dennis (D Menic 7) charges people for his home made stakes... but it is certainly less than 65 quids.
Nice... I think anything cheaper than the listed price of MA  is good
garthurs 03-22-2005, 09:15 PM I am sure you are right. If you bought an entire RX8 from Mazda in small packages as "spare parts" and put it all together yourself you would be looking at around $1.5 - $2 million! It wouldn't be much different for the other makes as well.
mikeyr 03-24-2005, 01:33 AM Taka, no idea why they quoted for bushes, NZ model is exactly the same as the Aussie leather pack..... and think i said it before but Dennis's gear is pretty good, I got accents, had strakes chucked in when i bought the car.....
takahashi 03-24-2005, 05:17 AM May be it is a better bushes as ILIV48 said.
I think it is worthwhile... since NZ is only a door step away. Could actually go there and take the bodykit home physically!
I saw a air ticket return to NZ for $300! even it is standby ticket. It will be much cheaper than sending the items on their own haha :)
mikeyr 03-24-2005, 05:23 AM Taka,
I'm in Melb about once a month, still have a house there and Sydney every other. Anyone wants bits from these guys I'm happy to carry over.
M
auzoom 03-24-2005, 06:01 AM Mikey, I am interested in some fender strakes. Did I miss the pricing?
Andrew
EmperorJazzy 03-24-2005, 06:19 AM AuZoom - ebay - 65 pound - 10 pound shipping - stainless steel ones though
Taka says - DMenic7 - less than 65 pound....
I'm still looking about..... if you catcha cost... i'm in!
Anyone else? Maybe we could get a few people on a list?!
mikeyr 03-24-2005, 05:43 PM Auzoom,
Strakes, got mine free with the car, you might already have looked at d manic's but the link is here http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=46526 . Cheaper than the UK ones but urethane not metal?? You can have them colour coded or even get three each side which is a "certain look".
Sorry to repeat myself but I bought Dennis's accents and they were very good, not perfect but very good.

mikeyr 03-24-2005, 06:19 PM Michael,
Not sure, have seen one or two but may be on Jap imports rather than locally delivered.
I'll try and check around on Tuesday but I'm in Malaysia all next week so may not get a chance until the following week.
Mike
e5cape 03-25-2005, 04:17 AM DEnnis from DLS custom parts is the cheapest but u have to wait a long time
to get one, so far they can't keep up with demand.
i been waiting for 4 months now
mikeyr 03-25-2005, 04:24 AM Yeah i hear that, i think i was order about 20 when they first started out!
EmperorJazzy 03-25-2005, 05:45 AM Yeah I checked out Dennis from DLS the other night.. he's stopped production for the time being due to wanting to spend more time with family, and also through a few issues with the product.... nothing major though...
auzoom 03-25-2005, 06:59 AM OK so much as I would love the stuff from DLS, I will be waiting 6 months for them. So putting DLS aside for the moment, what does a set of strakes cost in NZ?
Andrew
mikeyr 03-25-2005, 04:29 PM Andrew,
No idea, got mine thrown in, suggest an email to Cantebury Mazda, no prices on the website.
Mike

Michael,
Why do you want Mazdaspeed Urethene Bushes for your whiteline swaybars as the Whiteline sways come with the urethene bushes. Besides the whiteline sways may be a little too thick for the Mazdaspeed ones... Or am I missing something
Lock & Load 03-27-2005, 10:57 PM ILIV48
Good point did not realise that whiteline come with the Urethene bushes
thanks for picking up my  state of mind ;)
cheers
michael
ILIV48 03-28-2005, 01:20 AM Cool mate, I did not want you buying some then getting the surprise of urethene bushes in your whiteline parcel.
Cheers
