$6000 for four wheels?!?! Holy sheep dip!!!

But man, I wonder how much of a performance difference 12 Lbs per wheel less unsprung weight would make? Anyone care to calculate this?

& that's their heaviest rim. They are coming out with a lline that is 5.5 lbs. More than a 17 lb. weight savings.

Mazdaspeed make an overpriced but nice looking (aluminum alloy?) rim and a magnesium rim which is crazy-expensive and not intended for street use I think. They seem to look the same, although I've never seen the magnesium rims in person (that I'm aware of :D)

There are 2 types. 1 is regular and is like $500, the other one is magnesium (a little lighter) but much more expensive ($1400-$1500 per rim). Here is Rosenthal's listing :

at a 48lb unsprung weight savings i would, and i am about as anti-rice as it gets. i actually like the design of these more than most, but all things equal id go for the ms mags based on looks.

can anyone photoshop these well?

I would bet that the wheel is very strong.

However, I am not sure about the point where the magnesium center piece meets with the carbon fiber rim. That is going to be one tricky bond (I am assuming heavy-duty bolts). I would also much rather have a forged aluminum center piece for durability reasons. Magnesium is a highly reactive metal - any chip in the outer finish and the magnesium might corrode or oxidize.

The rigidity in general will be proven once it gets TUV or similar approval. Now if you dent it going over a curb, I don't think anybody would be able to repair it.

As far as the performance benefits. Each pound you save on a wheel is worth no more than 1.5 lbs of normal weight. So, 12 pounds per wheel * 1.5 * 4 = 72 pounds equvialent weight. That would mean a little less than two tenths reduction in 0-60 times for an RX-8. (the sight mentions 1.5 second reduction in 0-100-0 for a Ferrari which is high)
