View Full Version : Bio-Ethanol: the future fuel Supercharger 06-19-2003, 12:14 AM http://www.usatoday.com/weather/news/2003-06-06-la-mans-green-racer_x.htm Racer X-8 06-19-2003, 12:46 PM Alright! Hey, now you're talkin. Who knows, maybe one day, you can go coast to coast on a case of Budweiser biowaste!:D Cars will have optional tank inlet ports - vertically mounted on the side for men, or horizontally mounted for women. Just kiddin, you know. But I'm glad the exhaust doesn't smell like I thought it might at first... Sorry, I'm just in a silly mood right now:D It's all good. Supercharger 06-19-2003, 07:08 PM Warning: Bio-Ethanol is not beer. Don't drink this stuff. Schneegz 06-20-2003, 06:01 AM Good article. The only problem with ethanol is that you get lower mileage per galon. That's a small price to pay, I think. The biggest advantage is that we could produce all the fuel right here in the US. That would be a great political advantage to the US. Not to mention Iowa. ;) The best stuff to make ethanol out of is sugar cain, because you use the whole plant. Unfortunately, we can't produce that much sugar cain in the US. We don't have the right weather for it. The next best plant to make it from is sugar beets. The more sugar a plant contains, the more ethanol you can make from it. You can read about the Nasamax racer, however on sports pages, and in racing publications; places where you rarely read about reducing greenhouse gases from cars. That was my favorite line from the article. A friend of mine is a big time environmentalist and was going on about the evils of auto racing. I explained to her that racing is how Honda was able to make the latest Accord V6 engine 20% more powerful, 30 pounds lighter AND 6% more fule efficient, all at the same time. |
